Hi, I need to get some Asset Security Stickers for the hardware at my school. I have found the following company: Pictures and images of sample designs I was just wondering if anybody uses any other companies and has any ideas on cost per sticker? We are looking for something which is as tamper resistant as it can be and something which will be long lasting.

We were using managed switches on both admin and curriculum. All of the curriculum ones were acting as a stack. I was concerned that maybe the admin one was also acting as part of the stack but it wasn't which was good. Not sure exactly what was wrong on the admin switch, but I factory wiped it by using a serial cable and running putty. Once it was wiped and re-booted, it was fine. Admin network was working, everything was behaving as it should. I gave the admin switch the same admin static ip it had before, no problems. Same with subnet. It didn't need a dns which was what I thought may have been wrong. Hope it helps.

Hi, if anyone could help with this, I would really apreciate it. We had our LGFL 2.0 internet connection installed last week and have had a list of problems. At the moment, if I have just one thing left to fix. We have two networks, admin and curriculum. Our Admin network runs a server 2008 domain and windows 7 clients. All of the clients are now getting the new lgfl 2.0 internet connection but are not logging in to the domain correctly. When a user logs in, the pc accepts the password, but then displays an error saying Windows can't access \\server\home$\user\desktop After clicking cancel, it takes a while to log in. As expected there is no desktop folders and files, and no shares so the login scripts are not working. It is as if the client systems are completely unable to connect to the admin server. I am completely unable to browse to the server \\server\ from stat menu. But if I open up command prompt, I am able to ping it with no problems. The windows 7 systems have the following static IP address structure: IP: 10.232.162.* Sub:255.255.255.0 GW: 10.232.162.1 DNS1 Server IP DNS2 Blank The server dns forwarders are set as the new lgfl ones which are 172.30.178.53 and 172.30.178.54 Any suggestions would be great.

As a school waiting to transition over to LGFL 2.0 this is very worrying to read. We do so much work remotely in the same ad-hoc way you describe both onsite and offsite. Not being able to do this kind of work will have a profound effect on the way we resolve our problems and also how long users will have to wait for issues to be resolved. I am yet to have ever used remote software which asks a user for permission for me to connect. Why would I want a user to give me permission to use a computer on my network?! I totally understand the security reasoning for this, but for us this is really not going to work. In anticipation of the changes, I emailed a James Fletcher from CentraStage to try and glean some info on what we would be getting etc, but never got a response. Worrying times ahead!

Too true, and something I feel very strongly about. If this was me personally (say taking out a mobile phone contract), I would have no hesitation in pulling out immediately. I feel tricked, because as you say; these restrictions were never mentioned in the sign up documents. It was only after signing up to a lengthy contract, that we were told. Both the head and myself at my school are of the view point that if we experience any negative issues with the new connection other than minor teething issues as to be expected, that have any impact on the current levels of support that the school receives, we will be passing the cost on to LGFL. If they are unprepared to reimburse, we will be only to happy to deduct it from our yearly payments for the service. I have read some quite worrying horror stories on this forum so I am not looking forward to the day when we are switched across in any way.

Ahhh, thanks that seems to have done the job. Now I have re-read it, it makes perfect sense. Silly me Is there any way, I can stop the set up iCloud box from appearing each time a user logs in? Thanks again, what a bummer, just one tick box and that was all that was needed!

Hi, I am trying to add our first mac to our RM cc4 network. I have added the system via System Preferences>Login Options>Directory Utility. The system has been successfully added to the rm domain and is showing as green. I have checked that in the Directory Utility, for advanced options, I have ensured that the following are checked: Force local home directory on startup disk Use UNC path from Active Directory to derive network home location Network protocol to be used "smb" Default user shell: "/bin/bash" I am able to log on as any CC4 user with no problems, but I don't seem to be getting the home drive. If I open finder, the only share I do seem to get is root access to the cc4 server, and access to every share it has, meaning I can browse to everyones home drive, which is not too secure. Any advice would be really helpful for me

Thanks everyone, I am all set up now. It seems for some reason, the account I had pre-created just would not work, it just kept asking for card details even though it was a UK account etc. I have created a new account and don't have to put anything about payment details. Perfect!

Thanks for your post again, but it is no different even on iTunes. I put in my account details and it says I must review account and then shows: They must have changed it from when you last did it.

Hi, thanks for your post, I am unable to select "None" as none is not there. It says: "Payment method, please select a payment method" Visa MasterCard Amex Maestro You have to choose one or it stays red. I have tried the codes you listed, but it keeps saying the card number is wrong. I have also tried some of credit card generator. I will have a go with the method you mention although it looks like you can only add US apps with that method. It also appears that you can enter a gift card number, but that is in addition to your credit card number.

Thanks for your posts, so does this mean, instead of using a credit card, I could add a gift card to my account and Apple would be happy? We don't have a school credit card, so this will make things very hard. Rob

Good morning fellow edugeekers. My school has recently purchased one Apple iPad for senco use. I would like to install some apps to get the staff started with the ipad. I have created a school apple id with the school email, address etc. But when I then go onto the App Store to download some apps (free ones at the moment), the iPad says it needs more info and it wants a credit card to be added even if I am downloading free apps. Is there a way of bypassing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi guys, since last posing, the imac has worked very well. However, it seems to keep shuting down if it is not used for a few hours. Also it is not coming on in the mornings using the start up task. It does not appear to support WOL. Does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks.

It has just finished worked very well. Thanks for your posts! This is what worked for me: Open apple mac, fully update via system update, Open bootcamp and update, plus make windows support disk. Install Windows 7 Fully update windows 7 but don't activate. Insert proxy details Run Smart Client. Give it just over 1 hour Job Done!

Ah ok, thanks. I will give it a go then. I just didn't want to mess up the version of Windows 7 although I believe the CC4 version of Smart Client does not require the os to be rebuilt if the joining process fails - just thought I would play it safe anyway!

Thanks for all of the posts, they have been very useful. I ended up purchasing just two iMacs to install to the staff room to give a little mix to the systems we have in the school. Our main idea on obtaining Macs was because of their reliability and product life, although it seems Macs don't last as long as they used to. Thanks again for your posts, it has been extreemly useful to me.

Hello, I would like to add an Apple Mac system to our RM CC4 network. I currently have Windows 7 installed on the mac using bootcamp. Will the RM Smart Client sucessfully run and join the Mac to CC4 or do I need to go about things another way? Thanks for any help.

Hi, thanks for your detailed reply. I am very surprised I managed to cobble together my post with very little mistakes as I was talking with someone whilst writing. Apologies about not mentioning the sw we would be using. We are a primary school and these systems would be primarily for KeyStage 1 so you are talking the younger kids up to around year 2. The main apps they use are 2Simple packages which I am sure you can obtain Mac copies of, lots of online resources etc. I am convinced the Apple hardware lasts alot longer than counterparts both in build and usability (if you buy a decent system it tends to still run very well years after a Windows based system). I have been very impressed with the remote control software for Macs. I have been using one called Remote Desktop - lovely application, runs very smooth even on my very slow out in the sticks country internet connection. Thanks again for your help

Good luck with your install, it is sure to be an improvement to what you had before. I am very interested to know how others who have priced or got quotes on Apple systems feel about the costs? Do you get any kind of discounts for buying in bulk and does it work out reasonable? I know all schools get educational discount, but with Apple computers costing more to start with, the discount only brings the prices down slightly. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to add a Max OSX Lion 10.7.3 client pc to RM CC3? I have followed the following document (Apple OSX 10.4 & CC3 Shared Resources Configuration): Log In The document tells me I must extract some files and then run them on the OSX client system, however it tells me that "You can't open the application cc3 connection because POwerPC applications are no longer supported." I am guessing the only way for me to resolve this is to downgrade the OSX Client system to 10.4? Any help would be great.
