  1. School break is 22nd July to about 3rd September. I'm in all summer though..blah!!
  2. I'd recommend piping it over port 443 https
  3. We used NSO years ago and they were really good quality for desktop/tower computers. Motherboards were Intel own brand and had proper intel heatsinks etc. I cannot comment on latest equipment as we are using Dell now since I took over as NM. *shudder* at your problems, that is really shoddy. Your NM would have to do a lot of work to change suppliers so maybe she just doesnt like that for that reason? Also staff are friendly at NSO. Hopefully NSO will improve for you since they're not too bad. State your issues to them when you call to return faulty equipment. And mention to your NM about the unlabelled network sockets as she will have to deal with that.
  4. If she gets mobile broadband just make sure she reads small print when using it abroad. The roaming charges are very high. You could use it for 1 minute and its an instant £8 charge. When abroad she should get a hotel with free wifi. At home that mobile broadband isnt bad really. I would recommend a proper broadband connection as it dont cost much.

    Up Time

FreeNAS is using FreeBSD. That will stay up forever even if half the hardware fails ))))))
  7. lol just as bad as Dabs packaging
  8. hahahha great game!
  9. Those Shell drivers make me angry. I have seen at least 3 trucking companies go bust because of fuel prices recently. Those Shell drivers should be thankful they actually have a job in the trade. Instead they demand more pay. Greed!
  10. I think this is a great idea too. Maybe support staff will be more reconised then as well.
  11. Very professional company for all your network cabling needs! We've been using them at Springwood High for at least 10 years now. Details are at: Activenet Data Solutions If you require any further info please contact me on: [email protected] (Springwood High School, Kings Lynn).
  12. Hi all, I just wanna recommend Crowson & Ward for their very professional service with anything to do with Interactive Whiteboards. They do a superb job and staff are all very friendly. I've had 60+ IAWB's installed by them and not a problem. Details are at: Crowson & Ward - Home And if you need any other info you're free to contact me at: [email protected] (Springwood High School, Kings Lynn).
  13. Great site! Been using it for about 6-7 months. Saw it on Moneysavingexpert.com
  14. I just asked this same question under "Policies". Apparently all we need to do is just PAT test the equipment to make sure its safe. With the computers, I shred the hdd with symantec ghost gdisk then its up to the receiver to buy windows or install linux. Hope that helps
  15. Thanks for your responses!
  16. Does anyone have any legal documents on donating old computers/it equipment to children/staff? I know we have to PAT test them and shred drives, all we need is a form for them to sign and agree to cover our backs incase they injure themselves or something. Been searching for hours and can't find anything! I would rather see low-income families have the computers rather than throwing them. Thanks!
  17. £23k (SO1) - Network Manager in Kings Lynn, Norfolk here. 650 computers inc 100 laptops. 14 servers. Line manager to 2 technicians. Full time. All I can say is get some proof that other schools are paying more for the same title. Say where the schools are, computer count and hours. 23k is still low here but we have not had that MRS county council pay review yet. When thats done I hope to be on at least 27k. -Chris
  18. I use Zone Minder CCTV for Linux (can download a live cd for ease of install in minutes!) and Axis IP cams to monitor classrooms for damage. The quality of those Axis cameras are brilliant and helps us catch the offenders the same day the damage is reported. ZoneMinder can be found at ZoneMinder: Linux Home CCTV and Video Camera Security with Motion Detection
  19. Yup Slow here in Kings Lynn too. Capitaes.co.uk was impossible to use.. yet on ADSL it worked perfect. The whole structure needs looking at really, i think it is appauling for the money we spend on it. We're opencaste as well and some how we now have bluecoat filter blocking nearly everything. Reported issue in September and it is still not fixed.
  20. I cannot prove it but Zen Internet leaked my bank account details! I nearly lost £2000 last year through fraud. It all started a day after I sent them a fax to upgrade to 16 ips with my card number on. Police are investigating and so are my banks fraud team. I got the money back through making a claim. I now use Enta.net (through freeola.net).. Very good so far! No ports are blocked. Cost is £30 though.
  21. We use DeepFreeze Enterprise and its ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT The PCs are Windows XP. Never have any software corruption issues unless we accidently leave a machine thawed.
  22. I hate that company. I get so many sales calls / emails.. drives me nuts!! The "always in a meeting" thing sounds dodgy. I wouldnt pay up until the job is complete. Chris
  23. If the SMT want to trial SERCO i'll run them both in Parallel.. thats a very good idea cheers!
  24. Thank you all for your prompt responses!! Very much appreciated Have a great week, Chris
  25. Hi all!! I am the Network Manager at a large high school in Kings Lynn, Norfolk and our SMT are interested in changing over from SIMS to SERCO. I was wondering if anyone is using Serco and have anything they would like to share about this package? Like technical details etc. I have checked out their website and its all Sales crap. Got a couple of key points that I am interested in: 1) Are their support any good? Quick responses etc? I am Network Manager and Sims manager for over 700 computers so obviously have to hand some jobs over regarding SIMS to the SIMS help desk. I rate SIMS support very highly. 2) Does it work with IE7? We've recently upgraded!! Cheers Chris
