The alternative then is to used a plugin for VBulletin to restrict editing to users with more than 10 posts, problem solved as far as I'm concerned. I'm using Alexa, Rankings.com seems to be one of those that you describe as being innacurate.

This change really wouldn't effect the amount of spam you would have to deal with in the slightest, the forum I used to moderator is ranked 40k (ranked 12,000th as opposed to 53,000th here) places higher up the rankings than this one and to this day I can still edit the first post I ever made on that forum. Having to PM someone is significantly more work than just editing the post, I can do it at a moments notice and can do it at any time of day, it is a massive inconvenience. Is there a possibility of trialling it?

I very much doubt it's as big a problem as your suggesting, I have moderated significantly larger forums than this using vbulletin and it's never been an issue, members report suspicious links if they see them, moderators deal with the moderation queue when required. The public isn't stupid they can tell a spam post and suspicious link when they see one. You could simply stop new members creating new threads until they achieve a specific post count, and then any new posts in threads which appear to be spam can be deleted long before they come back and edit in suspect links. I've never actually heard of the tactic your suggesting either, as it requirements them to create valid posts first, which aren't spam then come back and add things to them. It sounds ludicrous frankly.

How common is/was this? That's an incredibly long term strategy for a spammer, and in this day and age on this forum I can't see there being a security issue given the firewalls and security software we all use? Not to mention good active moderation can handle this. I think the benefits far outweigh the potential risks.

Sorry for bumping this but I did a search regarding this and this was all I could find really. Is there a specific reason editing is limited to 3 hours? It's difficult to maintain an informative thread without editing the first post. In my view, having moderated and administered forums in the past the edit restriction should be removed in it's entirety, there are no benefits to keeping it in place.

I think they should just have called it Windows and left it at that, no number, no name, nice and simple.

Your still going to be waiting another year or two at least before you consider using the next version of Windows Server, so you probably made the right decision.

Still isn't possible to my knowledge, which is a shame as it was basically the one thing I was expecting.

Sorry the search button, wasn't clear! The server preview doesn't even include this button, so I can't see a valid reason for keeping it.

There has been alot of feedback to say the search button is pointless as the start menu does the same thing, so I expect it will be removed in a coming build. Edit: Sorry wasn't very clear on the context.

I think they should change the 'All Apps' button so that it opens the list on the right hand side, like the File Explorer menu. Would make the start menu a bit more uniform, at the moment you have the sort of favourite/most used lists, tiles, file explorer menu and the all apps menu that all display things in different ways.

Though you could happily argue that Mac stole the interface from Windows' Alt+Tab initially and adapted that for multiple desktops, where as Microsoft are just building upon the Alt+Tab interface and adapting it to accommodate multiple desktops.

In all likelihood you could do a rebuild and it wouldn't be present. Have you pinned anything to the task bar and then unpinned it? Edit: Well I can't get it to happen, seems hard to reproduce this.

Don't forget there aren't any consumer end features in it yet, this is just the raw technical preview. I guess this is the problem with releasing really early preview builds, everyone assumes its the finished article.

I'm not seeing it myself here, though I guess bugs are to be expected. Is it domain connected? Could it be a GPO perhaps? An uninstalled app? Probably a fair few ways of investigating it though I expect it's not particularly important, I'm sure they are already aware of it.

Probably very little, usually it's things like bit-locker. At this stage its probably the difference between Windows 8.1 Professional and Enterprise. Excellent when they are getting ready to announce the next major OS release in 4 or 5 years time Capita can announce they officially support Windows 10.

I'm about to install an enterprise client on hyper-v to test it on a domain, with the regular tech preview i've connected it to a MS account and just using it as I would normally use it at home, apps, customisation, etc. etc.

They have said that the consumer end features will be announced in Q1 2015, this is just the technical preview.

Downloaded and installed it last night on Hyper-V, went very smoothly! I even gave them some feedback, go me!
