You'll probably find that the system does substantially more than you actually need, so from a cost point of view you can probably do better. Other than the software is ok, though some aspects of it are badly thought out or just bad design. It gets the job done though.

Yeah sadly I was under the impression that the edit limited could also be overridden as with the edit permissions, though ultimately to make the change sitewide it would take a very small amount of time. Still, there wasn't any need regardless, if people hadn't have been so against the idea from the start and actually discussed it perhaps I wouldn't have come off as I did.

How often do people point out it was a dumb question? How relevant is the change to someone looking for a solution? This can happen but you have to gauge just how big a deal this really is overall, I mean this can take place now as it stands, but I've not seen it happen. That's true but you don't have to be negative about people wanting improvements, this is something that is going to be considered, it's hardly a bad thing that I wan't to throw in my thoughts and try and get the ball rolling a bit quicker. Yeah it's been available basically since the Enterprise preview was released, it and the Hyper-V version are in the compiled links thread. I agree with sted though, at this point it's not that different, I installed a couple of the more interesting roles to find they have nothing attached to them yet and appear to just be placeholders of some sort, abit of a shame but I'm sure they'll come in a future update.

Also I said there was no evidence that spammers edit old posts to inject links, and nothing in that picture would suggest that is the case, or that anything would change if the time limit was removed, your moderation is already dealing with the issues. For those negative mods and members, yes I will now leave this for the time being. There is nothing wrong with asking for improvements and for actual reasons not to try things, we should all strive to make things better shouldn't we? Isn't that part of the reason we are in the business?

Has vBulletin changed the way forum permissions work then? You used to be able to configure forum level permissions which allowed you to override usergroup permissions and enable users to edit their own posts, I wasn't aware this was changed if that is the case. Of course I'm aware that only mods can see moderation, it's not relevant to this discussion though.

I appreciate that, but you won't need to change anything. The scenario that has been presented as the reasoning for it is implausible from my point of view, just enable editing for registered members on a small forum as a trial for a week. I doubt you would see a single occurrence, spammers spam, they don't post valid content and then edit in links afterwards. Not to mention a distinct lack of evidence for it.

This is fine for personal projects, and I would use that if it were the case, but not for general informative posts which belong in a forum.

You can copy paste from the command prompt with Ctrl+C, and do a bunch of shortcuts for selecting text, that was confirmed in the launch presentation. Windows 10 is the operating system we will most likely be using to replace Windows 7 at some stage. Though given they are planning on switching to an OSX style of releases I guess the real question is which release of Windows 10 you will be using.

Just ask for clarification on it, the wording is extremely vague.

I was getting these issues (502 and failure to load css) over the weekend but haven't had any so far this morning.

That's not part of the problem at all, alot of threads are useful as reference as you said, but alot of other threads aren't. It was an example of a section which has recently become less active, my coin of phrase isn't particularly relevant. Not to mention that for those old threads which are relevant to be edited would require their original posters to edit them. Which isn't the problem which is being described, so it wouldn't happen anyway.

Indeed, but no one has presented any facts in this thread to suggest it is an issue. Is there a legitimate reason not to trial it on a small section? Just flip the switch and see what happens for a week, the likelihood is that nothing will happen, and at worse you see a few old/dead threads being altered. The Vista section for example was recently mentioned as being effectively ready to be closed/merged as there has been very little activity.

I'm using 17 Pro's and 3 AC's which are in the areas where external people are likely to be. Very happy with the system, as others have already said the Pro and AC models are both compliant with 802.3af, so you can use any PoE switch which conforms. Performance is good, we currently have 110 clients connected across the 20 access points, they offer fairly decent coverage, we are currently using radius to authenticate clients onto the network and it works like a charm. Can't fault it, so much so that I've suggested we upgrade our CCTV system to use Unifi's as it is again very affordable and manageable.

I could but I would rather just help improve this one, this would benefit everyone and make the forum a much more useful tool. There shouldn't be anything wrong with encouraging improvements, or at least suggesting that the possibility be explored. So far everyone's just been very defensive about it and not really looked at it from a user point of view, it is an inconvenience, a big one. I honestly think it should be trialled, perhaps just in one small section if people are concerned about it. If the spamming issue is as big as you suggest then it will show up even in a small section, though I doubt very much you would see any. In practice this doesn't happen, though if this was a major concern you can get plugins to retain original edits and have a wiki style edit history. I don't really feel I've had an answer either, just an explanation as to why it's not permitted, though seemingly it hasn't been tried in years and years, so I see no real reason not to continue pursuing it until it has been tried in some form.

Regardless of where the data comes from (Alexa gathers analytical data from sites directly in addition to a plugin, unlike Ranking.com which relies entirely on a toolbar called 'browser accelerator'), the forum I moderate for has roughly 5 and a half times the userbase of this one, so ultimately has more traffic than this. I appreciate you're busy with configuring a new forum, but honestly this would take a day or two at most to fix.
