Hi all, Does anyone know of a working solution to removing the 'Ease of Access' button from the logon screen? Cheers

Afternoon guys, Bit of a Friday conundrum for you all to have a think about. We seem to be having a quirky issue with printers on our Windows 10 network disappearing and I think I know why, but I've no idea how to solve it. We deploy printers using GPO with item level targeting: Within the item level targeting I have it to delete the printer when PC the user logs into is not in the in the right OU/location. This is where the complexity kicks in a little more... so: Mr B logs into a classroom without logging out of their office machine. The classroom doesn't have Mr B's office printer installed (obviously correct). Mr B then returns back to his office to find that his office printer has uninstalled itself from his office PC. A gpupdate pulls the printer back. I'm guessing that the group policy is refreshing itself and seeing the last place he logged into and removing the printer? (That's what I'm guessing anyway) Have we overthought the printer deployment process? Is there a more stable way to deploy printers to classrooms without having them sticky and following staff around like lap dogs?

Complete oversight not to apply that. I can now confirm that applying that registry hack made the .jpg extension work as normal now. Thanks very much guys. Much appreciated.

The weird part is though, I can open .tiff files with the retro photo viewer, no problem.

Not very easily as the control panel is locked down to the hilt, even for local administrators. :/

Unfortunately still the same. Obviously I don't want it to open in ms-paint, but totally not sure why it isn't switching, yet .tiff/tif files open fine in the retro photo viewer.

Hi guys, We've hit a bit of a snag with file associations and extensions, specifically the jpg/jpeg extensions. For whatever reason I can't seem to get the JPG extension to work, whereas the other extensions do seem to work. Here's the xml file I've been using: When any of our users (staff/admin/students) double click on the file it wants to load it in the ms-paint app which has been stripped from the image anyway. The file is being called from \\server-001\netlogon I've even tried putting the file locally on the machine to see if it was share issue. I know the old Windows Photo Viewer works as the .TIFF handle loads this up perfectly. It's just the jpeg/jpg extension I'm having the issues with. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers

I can't seem to find that option in the latest version of the Office 2016 GPOs. In the past I've used a reg hack to allocate it, but was hoping to do with a GPO this time around. Could you confirm which GPO and location you are changing please. Cheers

That's basically what we've been doing - a complete reimage and tbh, it's probably quicker doing it like this than waiting for the huge feature updates to install and restart 4 times over.

Afternoon all, Have many of you successfully managed to upgrade to 1709 Fall (Education) from 1607 (Education) and earlier via WSUS, without it reinstalling all of the previously stripped Windows Packages? I ran a test on one of our testbed machines and it appeared to install all the useless gumf back onto what was a stripped out image. Is this the norm? Cheers

Afternoon all, Does anyone have any guidance, other than adding the verified publishers of all the memory sticks' encryption software to AppLocker? I have a few users who have brought in encrypted memory sticks only for them to find out they can't run the decryption/mapping tool due to AppLocker's restrictions. Is adding the file hash rule the only real way of enforcing this? Many thanks.

Afternoon all, Hoping someone can help me out of a wee pickle I've found myself in. For some reason, the file association GPO's just don't seem to be applying themselves properly to my W10 Edu build. MP3s keep defaulting back to Groove, and PDFs try to open in Edge. As you can see from the screenshot, the GPO is applying to the user but isn't taking effect. I've tried the replace and update options but they don;t seem to make much difference to the issue. Here's hoping someone has the answer. Cheers

Afternoon all, Have any, or many of you had much success with 3rd party lightning cables? I have a primary school that seem to be going through poundshop ones at a rate of knots. The cables are either completely dying, or coming up with the error relating to 'unsupported accessory'. Any recommendations? Cheers

Morning guys. Firstly many thanks for the responses to this thread. The idea was to simply have the machine name printed somewhere on the logon screen. We thought this would be useful for laptops which tend to go roaming around the school site and often left on the logon box. The idea of the script to display this sounds great, however I'm starting to sway towards getting the Brother P-Touch label printer out.

I'm not sure this is possible, but here goes... Is there a way, through either Windows mod, or 3rd party app, to display the computer name somewhere on the logon screen? I know I can get it to display through user interaction by typing .\ into the username field, but I'm looking for something like what the RM Network User Banner does, or indeed BGInfo. Anyone know of anything that could fit the bill? Many thanks.
