we have xu-74 which are a pain with dust, we use air duster to blow them out, but think the best we have ever had is 2897 hours from a bulb. had infocus filter free units in some of our primary schools, touch wood nearly issue free for dust.

i take by your post detailing laserjets you have HP kit? or other brand ? depending on model and type of machine you should have a list of parts which you change every XXXXX number of copies - e.g. etb, fuser, rollers, touch plates or you could look at taking out a 3rd part service deal or look at hp style care pack. if its just a repair / service and its HP you could try EBM - yes they cover my 120+ fleet of printers, but they also cover some of my primary schools we support. but to be honest if its smaller unit - e.g. 2600 2015 style unit you might just be better placed to take a replace option. if your getting lines or marks on the pages check for paper dust, faulty toners, waste toner where it should not be. just ideas

spice works again here 2 -
just to add i have now resolved the issue with windows 7 i have stopped using vbs and moved to kix scripts to call the printers. i have uninstalled all the older drivers from my server for my HP products (laserjet 1200) was the one which was crashing out the print spooler on the windows 7 machine on attempting to install. i installed the HP universal pcl5/pcl6 driver on the machine which is now pulled to the windows 7 machine and it works fine. i do still have the pop up asking if i trust the printer driver i am installing but without changing to windows 2k3 r2 i dont have any way of changing that .

hi we use pmp as well - have had something like you are having now but my issue was / is that with everyone having 50+ AD groups it can give the students unlimited balance but i check it most days so its not a major issue to pop the new students in to the right groups on PMP if you get stuck, email support they are very good, i have one of them on msn so we some times chat about issues when we have them. they work with us when we highlight an issue which is good as well and have been talking about card reader option for pmp. -

got a pile of wyse netbooks in my office, would not have them if someone pay me to take them again if i am honest, screens are poor and break easily, fail to charge, battery packs come out too easily and then the plastic clips get damaged so you cant keep the battery in. i would agree with the others go with something more main stream and load a auto logon and citrix client on the desktop. oh and spares are like rocking horse poo to get hold of, was quotoed over £400+ for a new screen.

got all 4 main handset types in our office. htc touch dimond htc google type unit iphone blackberry the one i use the most is my blackberry, battery life is about 3 days even with me emailing/ wifi on/ internet/ blackberry messager/msn messsager and other such like plus using it as a phone for up to 30+ minutes some days my touch i had to get a 1800ma battery before it would last more than 2days the iphone people are charging up mid day some times cause the batteries are low the google type htc is nice and has a good battery but is not my personnal cup of tea ( too much control from google) intresting what one person said about having to use google to findout how to use his google phone... we do have nokia handsets but they took me the best part of 4 days and several resets to get the exchange to work. my touch and blackberry sync with exchange very easily so i have no fear if i lose the handsets and then need to get my "life" back again. the iphone we only have push email via the web interface on outlook. drop testing the blackberry comes out on top , followed by the touch, then nokia then iphone.

this might be a long story so get a cuppa opened in 2007 sept we have a fleet of 119 hp printers from 2015, 2600, 3005, 4700 4730 4345 machines all students and staff have a ID card with contactless and mag swipe plus 7 photo copiers at the start we didnt have any printer controls for this fleet if the staff or student printed it was, no limits or restrictions. this had to change and i took the measure to install print manager plus on the system as this worked with citrix. we do try only to use hp toners as they give best output quality, least number of faulty toners. think in the first year we spent somewhere about 80k+ on toner and about 1m ish pages printed give or take. the print manager plus did reduce the cost of the printing, by limiting the amount of output of students and how much waste was made ( double jobs and over 10 pages) for a very small outlay in yearly cost of the software. the next thing which change our cost base was the school signing up to the CPC. look it up, it is a intresting idea and works very well. our costs are now down to about 50k a year but the amount of work out of the machine is higher and a good 90% is handed in or used and not waste. we have looked at smart card push/pull options but the costs of between 10 to 15k for the total fit have stopped this for now untill the hardware needs replacing. if you have any questions about any of this drop me a email [email protected] we have also looked at the option of using our photocopiers as printers but with the situation changing weekly on the cost per page on both HP toner and contract photocopiers i will wait on saying which is best, but read the small print. edit: we have also had a quote from safecom via ebm for our existing fleet. so you dont allways have to get the software from just one place if you like it - much like ringdale

Job Logging/Reporting Software
lordasb replied to Ambient's topic in Network and Classroom Management
we use net supports helpdesk, it is simple to use, staff have the option to report via email, web interface or visiting the office (at which option we flag it as reported at office)- not that this means their ticket is any less important. the jobs are tracked - it emails them when the status is changed. we have different levels of status so the staff memeber knows when the ticket has been read by a memeber of ICT staff- they are emailed any updates. if files are required by the ticket we can upload them to the helpdesk for use by other tech staff or the member of staff if required. it is single sign on enabled, linked to our AD for staff and students - with over 2600 accounts. the single sign on means they dont need to know a username and password which means reports are easy for them to log. we have added a room field ( this was easy to do) which staff pick from the list of rooms in our school. it is also mobile phone and externally accessable to all, so staff have been known to use iphones or black berrys to report issues ( the more tech head members that is) as a rule we dont take jobs when walking about the school - they all have to be logged on the helpdesk. the first few months are painful but people see jobs being done and none get forgotten slt can have reports from the system. and we have openned ours up to our primary support team and schools for them to log jobs with us. we also use spice works internally but only for the hardware reporting side of things, along with hp web jet admin, also we have our AV software email the helpdesk along with printers and network copiers so all auto email messages are logged and not missed as is some times the case with auto emails from software/hardware. -
Quiet PC-Quiet PC Hardware-Quiet PC Components-Quiet PC Zalman Products and look at the zalman flower. or have a semi passive option with a 500 rpm 120 mm fan which there is one that only makes about 6 db noise out there - of which i have 3 installed in different machines

Can you Repair Promoethean Activ Boards?
lordasb replied to farquea's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
i have had to fix a few in the past. new power packs, leads, there is a company we have used - they will ask you the serial number of the unit to get the right parts order but they are not over the top. other options - phone up other schools you might find someone storing an old board which has been damaged but the controllers are fine so you could try swapping bits to see if it helps. -
@tricky we are just about to do the same supply 18 for a school which has 10 dell mini 10s allready in use. are you getting the battery life of what 6/7 hours ish ? we are reusing old trollies, but our biggest issue over the last 10 years has been leads, charging, batteries. leads - they are untidy, get trapped in doors and damaged, out covering stripped off. charging - teachers have the habit of leaving them on charge over night, and over the weekend thinking it helps to make them last longer in the day. not that its cooking the batteries. batteries - they are getting better but still will need to be looked at being changed every 2 years really. one bit of advice get a demo unit on test for at least 2 weeks, and use it, give it to kids and see what happens. does the screen seam flexable ? battery loose in its mounting, keys can be picked off?
-
one other idea if they have more than one mini 10 is to ghost a working one to the faulty one .
-
we worked on some mini 10's for one of our schools, it depends on the config of the machine, these had the 8 gb ssd drives, and just came installed with media to restore them with. (external drive was extra ;-) ) some dells do have a F function recovery but like the other person its hard to say yes press f9 or f12 to get into it, you need to see the splash screen. or get the quick service number off them and look on the dell site, you might find that there is a "service chat agent option on the mini 10's" that you could ask them on with out using the phone.
