I have a 1Gb Terrastation and I seem to remember a firmware update that kinda enables AD integration. I dont use it though, only using it for backups. Mine is setup at 4x250Gb drives in RAID5 and would certainly say it's nowhere near quick enough to be a file server. Supurb as a file backup system though. Craig

[O2] Assisted GPS - How much will it cost?
craiglay replied to Zoom7000's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Is assisted GPS not just a download you can to make every few weeks that allows you to download satellite position data over your data connection rather than the much slower satellite broadcast? If so, its just a case of how much data it downloads and the cost of your data plan. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-GPS Craig -
I have a system where I have an oldish pc connected to the bell via a relay and USB project board. A very simple C app runs when Windows starts and fires the bell at certain times of the day. The times are hard-coded into the app though but i guess it wouldn't be hard to stick them in an INI file, and even have a mechanism to ring manually. Stick VNC on it and it becomes remote too. If you're really adventurous at C, you could have a server program that runs the bell automatically and a client program to ring manually and change the times. The simple solution suits my school so i didn't go adventurous. The Controller Maplin > USB Experiment Interface Board Box it up however you like, I mounted it on a PCI bracket Use any old PC with a USB port Write the software, and done.. (Looks like it supports Visual Basic too which may be easier!) Craig

No, I have it in a few of my primaries but have to go round each machine with a client installer and even that is a PITA automatically spawning the installers for Quicktime and Acrobat (both out of date) I did try some silent install tricks but gave up. However, the dance mat thing that we got is quite fun! Ahem... bk to work!

Maybe a 3 mobile network issue My neighbour has one of these and normally its quite quick. Knocked the door couple of days ago sayin he can;t get on the internet with it. Its all connected, DNS lookups are fine but no web. It was topped up a few days previously and has been working before. Still not sorted that i'm aware of..

Erm, its version 5.9 something installed before the photocopier was setup. I have got the latest patch so will try that when I get a chance. Yes, the photocopier requires a PIN to print in colour, but this is displayed as normal and whatever credentials are supplied, only prints greyscale.
-
Do you assign printers in the logon script or are they machine set? Sounds like a driver problem to me

In one of my schools, I am having issues printing in colour from Textease Studio. They have a Konika photocopier setup as a network printer through the server. However much I change the settings, it will only print in greyscale. All other applications are fine. Printing in colour to a networked injet is fine. Any ideas?

Hi, got a bit more time to play with Diskpart Load up a cmd window, type diskpart and you should be presented with the diskpart console: DISKPART> If you type "list volume" you will get a table of all the volumes on the computer. C, D and CDDrives will show To delete the old partition, type "select volume" and type the number associated with the partition you want to delete, eg. "select volume 1" Then type "delete volume" You should now have just the one partition, the NTFS partition and some free space. Type "select volume" then the number associated with the partition you want to extend and type "extend" The Microsoft article has a section on how to script this so its more automatic for more than 1 machine too. There may be a few bits i missed out or different but i think thats basically it. I would be inclined to try it on VirtualPC or VMWare first or a laptop you don't mind re-imaging if it goes wrong. Once again, i'm not responsible for any damage or loss of data. Craig

How about the Olympus Mju Tough 790SW. Olympus - µ[mju:] 790 SW Just bought some of these for a school and they're pretty good. Picture quality is good, and they're pretty quick. They're water and shock proof too.

Hi Built into windows is a program called Diskpart. Its a command line utility but is very powerful and can do what you want. Download: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0FD9788A-5D64-4F57-949F-EF62DE7AB1AE&displaylang=en How to use: A Description of the Diskpart Command-Line Utility

Have a read through: Microsoft Corporation Try going into scheduled jobs, you'll see its just running ntbackup.exe with a lot of command switches. I guess you'd just remove a "/A" to perform a normal backup. As always, keep a backup of the original job, and test.. No responsibility here for breakages. Craig

Hi, and welcome to Edugeek Erm, if you are refering to my screenshot, I am using Outlook and that is just an addition to the keyboard styles. I think its built into my XDA though as it was shipped with it. Try having a look at xda-developers - Xda-developers to see if they have a solution. Craig

Hello all. I've got a O2 XDA Orbit 2 and am really impressed with it. Previously have had the XDA 2 and the XDA 2i (still got!!) -
Lol, na, i've already got 3g / HSDPA / GPS / fairly decent camera with video / 3rd party apps etc. Apart from the theme and the today plugin its standard WM6. It looks much better than the default O2 theme and far more functional.

As kmount said, i just got a load of HP 6720s laptops with Vista Business and downloaded the XP drivers. I think Stone offer something similar (county supplied)
-
Quite a few Various UI tweaks, like showing battery level, removed a useless bar that was on the bottom of the screen, the theme Wifi VOIP calling using the standard phone app (disabled by default) Wifi can stay on when device is on standby (switches off by default) Patch for camera quality Bluetooth DUN profile The big clock is a today plugin which interprets an XML file for the layout and behaviour Automatic keylock after a period of time (Why it isn't standard with the WM6 lock i dont know!!) Sega Megadrive / Genesis emulator Replaced supplied 1GB card (for copilot maps) with 4GB Wireless network scanner Thats all I can remember for now... If you get one and want any help, i can point you in the right direction

Just done some screenshots 1. My today screen 2. Writing a txt message 3. Notification of a txt message without having to go into it

Na, its running most of the apps it was shipped with, just have some extras to improve usability and a fews mods to existing apps. I can do most phone fuctions from the today screen which is very handy. Its really easy. It ships with a touch pad which will do T9, multi-tap abc style and numbers and can be changed with 1 touch. You can have word prediction and automatic spellchecking too! You also get the standard stylus keyboard, letter / word recognition, etc.

Yeah, I got one. I have the O2 Orbit 2 and the Online £35 with unlimited data bolt on. I dont think the 200Mb limit exists any more, only a "fair use" policy. I have heavily modified the software on mine to get it running pretty good and I love it. Check out xda-developers - Xda-developers and look for the HTC Polaris to get loads of resources. Also, feel free to ask any questions about it! Craig

I created a very simple AutoIT script with a dialog box to switch the proxy on and off. All it does is toggle the "Use a proxy server" tickbox so you'll need to set the proxies up before use. Disclaimer: This is my own homebrew work, thrown together when a teacher asked if it could be done. It has been tested but I am not responsible for use / misuse / computer catches fire. etc. proxy.zip

Try disable "slow link detection" in Computer Config, Admin Templates, System, User Profiles Edit: And I use XP's Wireless config Craig

Thought about something like MaxBlast (Maxor and Seagate HD's) can clone a drive and are relatively straightforward to use. Personally, I would give them a BartPE / DriveimageXML disk and some written instructions Craig

Deleted, didn't read your first post

Windows implementing a slow logon? Whats the network infrastructure like? Could it be overloading? Try a solution like a super mandotary profile that will log the user off if the profile cannot be properly loaded. Craig
