  1. Yeah but there are only a select few and they don't feel very well marketed IMO, they could make a mint if they made their back catalogue available and actively advertised the fact, I reckon that every single person on these forums will have fond memories of at least one Nintendo title...
  2. TBH, I think they're best cutting their losses on the Wii-U... with the PS4 and XB1 out now and already outselling Wii-U despite the latter being over 12 months old, it would take a miracle to make the console profitable. They're almost exclusively relying on first party titles because third party have finally had enough of their over bearing publishing rules and licensing. In this age of indie games, F2P and micro-transactions (*shudder*), Nintendo's classic model of stringent control over their platform is losing them a lot of favour in the industry. They need a culture change and quick if they're going to continue to produce their own consoles IMO. This could play perfectly in to their "old tech, low price" routine - re-release the GameBoy (an updated version of course!) and make available digitally their entire first party catalogue of NES, SNES, N64 and GC games, then encourage third party devs to release theirs on the platform too. Hell, I'd pre-order one! So long as the games were no more than £5 each of course (they'd easily be able to make the machine emulate the old consoles, removing any need to reprogram the games - almost 100% profit)
  3. I think they are in danger of becoming the next Sega and signing a load of licensing deals for their IP. However, looking at their history, I think their general business ethos will practically force them to go all out on their next console in the hope of reviving their dwindling profits. They must have enough capital behind them to fund at least one more console R&D. They really need another Wii/GameBoy level of success to put them back at the top though I think. Their usual strategy has been to take slightly older tech and apply some creative design to make it appealing and affordable, however I'm struggling to think of anything they could do along those lines at this point other than make a version of the Kinect/PSEye that actually works in a normal sized living room... TL;DR - one more shot at the big time then the way of Sega.
  4. Gah there's that driving license requirement again! I really need to get that sorted, at 25 it's getting silly not to be driving! (always something more urgent to spend money on!)
  5. They're only going to release updates for MSE, not XP patches, so it'll still be vulnerable.
  6. Thanks for that - it did look perfectly reasonable but there wasn't a single photo/video that I could find that showed that setup - are ODDs really that outdated? I still like to own my purchases (i.e. physical media)! Then again, with space becoming more and more of a premium, I am starting to see the benefit in going all digital...

    XP End of Life

BBC News - Microsoft extends security fixes for Windows XP to 2015
  8. This sounds suspiciously like an exam question... Don't get lost in the numbers, look at what's important - how much material do you have for reference, how much do you have in reality. Find the difference between the two, apply it to your reference figures.
  9. Can't access that link at work, it's the Micro ATX version I've ordered - please tell me it doesn't say that you can't fit an ODD and GPU at the same time!
  10. Sore subject... I destroyed mine over xmas That's not going to cut it, could knock the Rii out of the running...
  11. It's a cover up and someone is trying to tell us... nout as queer as "folk"
  12. That exact KB is on my list to possibly purchase - the plan is to play games on it for a couple of weeks and try to decide how crucial a separate mouse is for the kind of games we'll be playing on the big screen - I suspect a pad will be fine for most games and many of those that require KB&M the touch pad will be sufficient, but we'll see. of course what I really want is a Steam controller but I reckon we'll be lucky to see those in the next 6 months...
  13. As some of you will already know, I'm in the process of building an HTPC/SteamBox and I'm now looking for recommendations as to a remote control. This will be purely for use on the HTPC side of things, we already have Xbox pads for the games and I'll be getting a decent wireless KB/M for non-pad games. To my mind, these two look to be about the best options but I'm wondering if any of you who have actually used an HTPC remote have any recommendations? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71dH8oEDT-L._SX385_.jpg MELE F10 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41cNyP-k2VL._SX385_.jpg Rii Mini
  14. Gonna take a chance on the case, it looks like it should fit... Parts ordered, can't wait for the build
  15. Exactly, getting a bit tired of people getting compensated for being idiots.
  16. Well RAISE is just an amalgamation of league table data. If you go to this website: Performance Tables - The Department for Education You can obtain pretty much all the data in the Arbor reports for any LA controlled school in the country. What RAISE, Arbor and the like tend to do is to amalgamate national data to draw more useful comparisons. You could do it yourself, but it'd take you weeks!
  17. From what I gather, all the information they have is taken from RAISE (just from flicking through it). It's presented much better than RAISE though. Got a free report a while back and I liked it but it's really to get you to buy their analysis framework which I don't see us doing - we do so much in house now we're talking of ditching some of our existing products, not buying new ones!
  18. BBC - Newsbeat - Plastic surgery app game aimed at children taken down First of all, I just want to point out that this: is too hilarious to be an accident. Ok, silliness over. I doubt there's anyone that would disagree that it's sickening that someone has made a game aimed at children that encourages you to "fix" an overweight girl through various types of surgery. It's disgusting that some idiot thought that was a good idea! The thing that irritated me most, however (the fact there are idiots in the world came as no surprise), is that the BBC published this quote: without then following it up by pointing out that anybody can publish anything on Google Play store and Google take down anything they deem inappropriate as and when it is reported. Apple, on the other hand, vet every single app that makes it to the market. OK, Apple have taken it down now (although they seem to have left the almost identical "Plastic Surgery for Barbara" game intact) but that means that somebody from Apple consciously made the decision that not only was this app OK but that it was OK for children. Why aren't they pointing out this massive difference in policy? Is it because they have their noses wedged firmly in Apple's rhetorical anus? Perhaps there's some form of plastic surgery that can fix that.
  19. that sounds like it's open to massive amounts of abuse! OK, time to roll the dice and give Sky a call then. Hopefully I can get them to cut me some kind of deal as it would actually work out cheaper with BT once you take the 3 months half price plus cheaper activation fee in to account. Not that I have any intention of going to BT now but it's always nice to have your gun loaded when you make these calls
  20. It's interesting you say that as they (BT) claim they don't employ any traffic management at all, in fact they use it as a selling point!
  21. I used to have a lot of trouble with dropped connections, until I bought a cheap TP-LINK router to replace Sky's own - been fine since! It is slow though. I'd much rather go with Virgin, prefer their TV packages too, but can't get it where I am it looks as though FTTC is the best I'm going to get and it's a damn site cheaper from Sky than BT so it may be my only realistic option. BT want £23pcm or an extra £15.50, whereas it'll only cost me an extra £12.50pcm to get it from sky and whilst BT claim I'll get up to 38Mb/s, I strongly suspect that's over estimating it unless they fit an actual fibre to my property. I was hoping someone would have come up with a decent home 4G package by now as we do get excellent 4G reception where I am, but they're all overpriced and hugely limited at the moment (unless anyone knows of a good one I don't?)
  22. How realistic are the locations? Are they modelled on the actual locations? Also, how realistic are the motorways? I mean obviously they can't be properly mapped out as that would mean for @nephilim's truck would have to be going 1,600mph to make London to Glasgow in 15 minutes are there at least landmark points en route so that you'd recognise roughly where in the country you're supposed to be?
  23. You get faster upload than download speeds? Weird Either way, sounds like it's the best offer I'm going to get where I live and as most people on my little estate are OAPs, hopefully there won't be many tying up the exchange... Think I'm gonna give it a go if I can get them to agree to withdraw and refund the activation fee if the speed I get is carp.
  24. Is the Sky service FTTC then? That'll explain why they're telling me I need line rental still... although that worries me that I won't get near the 15Mb/s quoted - they quoted me 7Mb/s on my current connection and that peaks at around 3Mb/s
  25. Has anybody got it and if so, is it any good? I'm getting quoted an estimated speed of 15Mb/s, which is a drastic improvement on my current top speed of 3Mb/s, but I'm curious to hear from others how reliable these figures are. I know there are much, much quicker fibre optic connections out there but unfortunately Sky are the only ones so far to say they can offer it in my area! Also, I wondered if anyone who does have Sky Fibre BB also has to pay line rental? I don't want/need my land line and obviously it's not necessary for fibre optic BB, but there's no option to get rid of it online so I'm going to call them and see if they'll do it - would effectively make my BB upgrade cost me no extra per month if they cancel the land line!
