  1. Have to agree, that badger is great Yeah I know where you're coming from, there's certainly a fine line where photography stops being photography and becomes something else. However, I'd like to point out that the 3 shots in my last post were all done on film, no post processing (aside from curves/dodge/burn)
  2. True, hadn't thought of doing it like that! Have to say, I enjoyed the freedom doing it in photoshop gave me, allowing me to accent particular areas as I saw fit, but I also kind of like the 'randomness' of doing it on film. That said, I'm not a fan of the totally random double exposures, I always try to make the double exposure a part of the shot and plan it as such, otherwise anything good that comes from it is just pure luck... Oh go on then, I will share some film double exposures Keep an Eye on the Road by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr Live Music by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr Going Underground by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr (sorry but the OP did ask for us to share! )
  3. Wow, couple more potential bugs... For one subject, AM7 appears to be adding '---' in two separate places on every child's comment, but only on Individual Reports, it doesn't show in assessment manager. Retyping the comment fixes this, copy and pasting does not. This suggests to me the comment could have been copied and pasted from elsewhere (Word most likely) and that some formatting character is getting copied across causing the error, however there's no way I can confirm this as the error is not at all apparent until you print/preview the Individual Report. When you edit a comment, the bottom of the dialog box shows an 'i' icon and says 'Error' (in true SIMS fashion, no more info is given and the comments appear to save correctly).
  4. Ah yeah I do give nearly everything a curves adjustment and some dodging/burning if required as my aim with the camera is to get a good, even "canvas" in terms of contrastexposure that I can tweak later, but I don't really class that as photoshopping - they've been doing the same for years with various developers, film, tones, and dyes It becomes photoshopping, in my mind, when you start doing things to the shot that mere photographic chemicals/techniques could not also produce. Technically, that makes my multiple exposure shot above exempt from my own definition, but I class it as a photoshopped shot as it's not possible on a digital camera (I know some can do it now, but they effectively do exactly what I did in photoshop, just using their own software)
  5. @CHR1S - really like some of your HDR shots, a lot of people "overcook" them and they come out looking horrendous. I like HDR when it's used to add range to a photo or used to artistically make it look surreal, some people don't seem to get that balance! I don't do a lot of HDR, but here are a few of mine (a bit smaller, sorry for the previous, huge posts!): Port de Sóller by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr Cornish Coast by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr Plaza Mayor, Madrid by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr BTW, I don't Photoshop everything but I do like to get a bit creative with it when I do
  6. HDR, I'll take that as my queue to post some shooped ones Like Mother Like Daughter by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr Horror Film Noir by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr Tough Day Comrade by Josh_Wolf, on Flickr
  7. Just wondering if anyone else can reproduce this error in SIMS 7.156. In Assessment Manager, if you are viewing a comment aspect with spelling mistakes, SIMS should underline those spelling mistakes. However, in the 7.156 update, you may see the underline for a split second but it then disappears. Pressing "Spell Check" still finds the error, but the underline does not show (at least not for long!) Anyone else? I'm on Windows 7 x64.
  8. Yeah the colour codes aren't really standard in VGA - could you not plug a long VGA cable in at one end of the faceplate long enough to give you the extra reach you need to test the pins with a multimeter?
  9. While the bug macros are coming out, here's one of mine: Taken on my 40D with a 50mm Zuiko macro lens from the Olympus OM system with OM->EF adaptor, on 2 extension tubes, tripod, Pringles tube diffused flash snout... MacGyver!
  10. The one thing that stopped me getting mechanical is the noise. I tend to have overnight gaming sessions on the weekend while the missus sleeps - if I had bought mechanical, that would have come to a swift end!
  11. Count me in! I have had a quote previously (still waiting for approval with SLT ) but just in case, I have PM'd my details.
  12. Very true, it does stink that they're going to push an IE update to 2003 but not XP - it's the same piece of software! To my mind, support for XP has ended, not IE, but that said there really is no [good] excuse to hang on to XP at this stage.
  13. If you're in to this kind of thing, then I highly recommend these two books (particularly the first one, which I've read, the second is sat on my desk waiting to be read): Replay: The History of Video Games The Ultimate History of Video Games
  14. Makes the 6 hours I spent getting my Mom's old PC upgraded to a point it could take Windows 8 yesterday afternoon seem worth it, thanks for sharing!

    Pokemon X & Y

@CAM - just added you as a friend. Anyone who wants to add me: 4484-9928-5525

    Pokemon X & Y

I'm yet to find a game that I like the 3D mode in! If it wasn't for the fact the 2DS is a big awkward wedge, I'd have saved some money and bought that. It was worth the extra cash to be able to fit the 3DS in my pocket!

    Pokemon X & Y

3D as in 3D models, or 3D as in true 3D? This is the first Pokemon I've played since Red/Blue lol so not sure if it's been 2D up til now. As for the latter, are there any true 3D effects in this game? Doesn't seem to make a difference to me...

    3DS vs Vita

Well, today I traded in my Vita and got a 3DS. Been weighing it up for a few weeks, the only games I've been playing on my Vita are either available on PC (i.e. indie titles) or are PS1/2 titles which I can play on PS3 anyway. Decided to get the 3DS so I could at least play games with the missus and little one. May revisit the Vita when I eventually get a PS4, but for now it was just wasted on me! As a side note, devastated at the £60 trade-in value!

    Pokemon X & Y

Well, I've gone and bought Y. After much internal debate over whether to buy a 3DS or Vita over xmas, I bought the Vita, which I now realise was a mistake. So today I traded in my Vita towards a used (great condition) 3DS XL and Pokemon Y. Enjoying it so far but my $deity, aside from the graphics this is nearly identical to Red/Blue I played 15 years ago! I'm guessing Pokemon hasn't evolved much? [pun almost intended]
  20. If it's primarily a gaming build, I'd say an i7 is overkill, an i5 will do you just fine and the money saved would be better spent on the GPU. Talking of GPU, I personally avoid AMD as I've had nothing but trouble with them. NVidia cost a bit more but they've always served me well. Not saying don't try AMD; if they work for you then you'll make a significant saving; just my personal preference. The only thing really to force you to buy NVidia is if you think you'll want to buy a Shield at some point down the line.
  21. Yes, it does look incredibly slow! "What's that? You tried to use the Zuta on your nice white work surface and now there's ink everywhere?"
  22. Yeah, unfortunately Windows 8 has lived up to the age old good/bad Windows cycle. 8.1 was a substantial improvement on 8, if only for allowing you to boot straight to Desktop! 8.1 update 1's (bloody ridiculous numbering scheme!) biggest change was an important one but one that most users won't notice; it detects whether you are using a touch screen or not and makes "boot to desktop" default if not - that really ought to have been the case since day one! I like that apps show on the taskbar now and that the taskbar is always available, but it annoyed me that they still won't let you properly "window" apps; they're minimized or maximized, no in between (apart from screen splitting, which is OK but not always flexible enough). Windows 8 has definitely improved a lot (I've been using it since dev previews became available) and the core OS really is a step up but the polarizing UI is what it will be remembered for and I'm with the majority on that one; it's a cumbersome mish-mash that's not really a good fit for mouse or touch screen users. Here's hoping Windows 9 follows the good/bad trend! EDIT: so much for me being out of the thread eh?
  23. I got the impression you were crediting the Mac with your wife getting the job, when actually the credit lies with your wife's skill and access to the software she needs; Mac/Windows is irrelevant in that equation. I "conveniently overlooked" it rather than point out it was a a moot point. Yes, they're different; if you press ALT in Windows, you press Option on Mac and if you press Control in Windows, it's Command on Mac - it's not like you suddenly lose access to your keyboard shortcuts in either version, the two machines just have ever so slightly different keyboards necessitating the shortcuts requiring one control key different. Not a 'difference' worth singling either version out for IMO. Not having a go at you, simply responding with my opinion; the point of a debate! Totally agree. People get very heated over it - I try not to lower myself to calling people names, it's everyone's personal choice at the end of the day, I just cannot grasp the reasons some people come up with to buy Apple; would be so much easier if people just said they preferred the OS rather than trying to act like Macs are magically superior - they're not, you are paying good money for them and more often than not, people are comparing the quality and reliability of a £1,200+ machine with one of the cheap, basic Windows machines they service at work - it's not a fair comparison.
  24. Very mature. I need to chill out because I pointed out Adobe CS Suite is identical on Mac and Windows? That's a fact. I'll leave the thread now as it's descended to name calling (as it often does if you dare question the Holy Apple) but I'll end on this; no, you should not buy Apple products "just for their quality." Buy them because they're your preference, buy them because you want Mac OS, but buying them just for their quality is daft; you're not getting some bargain, you're paying for that quality. Apple products are not a miracle. I'm out!
  25. I'm sorry but you can't credit the purchase of the Mac with your wife getting a job, your wife would be equally well equipped to make a website with Adobe suite in Windows; they're identical! EDIT: I will say £60 is a good deal for Adobe (dependant on version) but I stand by what I said, Adobe is Adobe, Mac or Windows is irrelevant
