Hi bodminman are you talking about logs in MDBDATA

We have a problem at the school that has just surfaced. Every user when sending emails gets a bounce back message of: The following recipient(s) could not be reached: xxxxx.co.uk on 15/09/2011 18:59 There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator. They can send to each other internally and can receive emails no problem, can anyone please help with some advise and hopefully a resolution Thanks

Hi Guys I have been asked to install FMS on a laptop as a standalone for someone to train on. I would like a blank database so as they do not have access to school data. The only setups folder I have is on the server but if I install from there it will give me school link. Do I need a disk or can someone please tell me the procedure for doing this. Thanks

Thats great RobT and thanks for reassurance. I will be doing this in the next couple of weeks so fingers crossed it will be fine. As per your reply I will get back to you if required

We are only on 1 domain and server is at site 1. Site 2 pcs will be joined onto domain and authenticate on server site 1. I can install sims/ Fms on these pcs and map drive etc but am a bit worried on speed, it is a 50mb fibre connection I believe. Is sims learning gateway a web based connection? And can it be used for admin duties like pupil/staff data entries etc?

I have been asked to look into getting our 2nd site to connect to sims/fms. I am getting Atomwide/LGFL to link the 2 sites (same network/domain) but am unsure how the 2nd site will connect to sims/fms. Will this be very slow connection or should I go down the route of TS, if so can someone give me some guidance on doing this.
-
It is the London Grid for Learning. So if I get them to set static routes between the sites, that would get me connectivity but how would a user on site 1 access the sims/fms database as I would not want them logging into server?
-
I have been asked to look in to connecting 2 schools (separate networks) on the admin side so that they can access the shared FMS database (federation). Site 1 will host the database but site 2 will need to be able to connect to it as well and use just this FMS database and perhaps sims.net. Site 1 will also need to access site 2 sims.net database. As a quick fix I was thinking 2 laptops at each end with sims/Fms installed on both and use logmein pro to allow admin staff to connect each end but want something a bit more permanent and robust. Has anyone set this up before and could give me some pointers, guidance as I take it I would need to liase with Lgfl to set this up.

I am a private company and only thought public and Government businesses generally paid London weighting. I have certainly never been paid this in the various private companies I have worked for. There would be no travelling between schools as they would be in certain schools on certain days. D

I am looking to take on a Junior ICT Technician (London) and just wanted to know what sort of salary I should be looking at paying. Also as it is working in various schools it would be term time only so I would need to factor this into my thinking. Is or has anyone been in the same position and know how to work out a salary based on this. Thanks

Primary Active Software/Smartboard
boogster replied to boogster's topic in Promethean Direct Support
Many thanks, as far as I understand she wants them to be able to use the flipcharts etc, would this require pro license? -
Hi Guys My school has 20 SmartBoards with smart software installed, the head has asked about putting Promethian Active Primary software on the PCs connected so that teachers can use the flip charts etc, does anyoner know if this is OK to do or will it have licensing issues? This will be used just as a resource and not to manage the board (ie orientation etc) Also if Ok is the software free or do we need to purchase? Thanks
-
Thanks guys for the response. It certainly will give the head food for thought. I initially said to her that I believe you would not be able to do so and am glad I asked the question. I t was going to be used for classroom PC attached to smartboard so will ask the question to Promethian.

Thanks Steve I will give this a go but I thought I had tried that previously. Do I just add the lines under my existing script? When you gave me the alternative to add parameters....what will this do as opposed to the one above Thanks

Hi there I currently use vbs script to map network printers. We have changed printers recently and all is fine with the script (below) Dim net Set net = CreateObject("Wscript.Network") net.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\curricsvr\ictcolour" net.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\curricsvr\reprophotocopier" net.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\curricsvr\receptionphotocopier" What I need to know is how I delete the old ones from appearing in the users printers list. I have deleted these off the print server but the icons still appear on users with "unable to connect". Can someone using my script above edit it to make it do what I need. The old printers names were: \\curricsvr\ictmono \\curricsvr\planning Thanks

The only problem I have with a NAS drive is that if the school goes up in flames so does the drive as it is not offsite and could be prone to theft.
-
thanks Prad, any recommendation on which Netgear to use.
-
It is a primary school so not too much data, 1 Server, Shared directories are around 30GB and then exchange and SIMS/FMS so max of about 45GB. As far as I understand it backs up everything 1st time then only backs up changes thereafter so bandwith should not be a problem. Do you not recommend this then? As regard internet connection failing...this is the same as a tape failing for any particular evening so as long as it does not go down for more than 1 day I am sure this will be OK.
-
Can anyone recommend a good online backup solution. School want to come away from tape backups.

Hi All Does anyone have any experience working with 3com Superstack 4400pwr switches? I have 3 in school and have taken over support from a company that went bust. I needd to get onto the switches to reset the VLANS but no one has the passwords for them. Does anyone know where or how I can obtain these, I basically want to reset this back to factory default but at present can only view the config using monitor and monitor details. Thanks

Hi all Head asking to supply netbooks for curriculum in classrooms and can only find ones with XP home, obviously I will be unable to join to domain but wanted to know if anyone else is running these in schools with this OS and how they have configured so that pupils can log into there own home directory and shares on the server plus printers etc, is there any limitations, we already have 60 laptops on domain but head wants these smaller units.

Thanks James I have 2 servers running 2008r2 and 2003 standard will this be a problem

I need to set up a trust between the admin and curric servers for sims in classroom project. I have squashed the network into a single IP address range (admin/sims server one) and would like to know does anyone have a guide on how to set up the trust relationship etc, do I also need to allow zone transfers in DNS? Thanks in advance
