Just a quick one. I have bene asked to source high spec, robust and reliable windows laptops for our trust staff. My initial thought was a surface pro but they seem a little pricey and was met with a little resistence. Just wondering what others purchase that meet the requirements listed above. They currently have macbooks and have explicitly said they don't want anything bulky and heavy. The idea is that they will dock at their desks and be able to freely unplug and be on their way. Any suggestions would be brill. Liam

Yes, there is.. Its not a backup though. There are good articles onlkne about redirecting known folders. Just type that into Google. "Redirect onedrivr known folders group policy" Thus will move their documents to this location though not back them up. You would need to then consider a backup solution. Liam

You will need need to manually add the calendar and set permissions accordingly unless you want them to have access to the entire mailbox. In which case it’s auto discover

Im looking at developing a new skills audit to identify potential CPD I have one from a few years ago but this have moved on quite a bit with 365 etc etc. Be interested to see what others are doing. Thanks

Ah don't worry thanks for the reply anyway.

Thats local ip not client. Managed to do it now. vb script that outputs it and then i pull that via a custom field.
-
Done it.. bit of scripting but managed to get it on bginfo now
-
If someone knew how to get the client up and output it to a file I could do it.
-
It’s hard.. I thought about a little messy way of using vbs to dump to a file and then pull that via bginfo. It works if i use a text file I created. Someone must have done it

Im looking to output the ipaddress of the client is possible via bginfo. I have managed to get client name using the EV but i really would like the client ip. Anyone know of a way to achieve this. thanks

So i am looking at the possibility of streamlining the user creation / disable process Ideally i would like to use a CSV to create and disable accounts using csv and powershell. So.. If i create an account it using CSV it will put them into the specified ous ect and create home folders paths If i disable an account using CSV it will disable the account, output the groups the account was associated to and move the hold folder to an archive. Any ideas?

Hi, my apologies if this is in the wrong place but i couldnt find anywhere else to put it. Since yesterday (afteri had changed the identify source of our Vcentre infrastructure) i am now unable to connect to the vcentre as part of the backup infrastructure. I am recieving error 407 proxy auth required. I have checked the obvious with little success. AS a result last night backups failed with a remote certificate issue. Any suggestions here would be amazing. I have raised with veeam but i thought there was no harm in also raising with others who may be able to help. Thanks in advance

wouldnt the user just add the shared calendar?

Id say its not advisable to force password expiration anymore. Microsoft guidelines even suggest not to and rather set complexity requirements
-
I have used change password for years.. works a treat and you can limit to ous that are allowed as part of the search. Delegation still Needed. I just created a new group and added staff to it . Works well. Added the software to s central software directory and linked to that as a shortcut

Evening all. A little background.. I have just started working in a primary school as part of my new MAT role. The primary issue laptops to staff. This is something I moved away from about six years ago in favour of fixed desktops and remote access. I have a list as long as my arm on why I opted for this. I’m just wondering though... how do those in similars setups configure laptops for home Use? I’m only particularly interested in storage / home folders / shared directories really. I have all of the internet stuff boxed off with auto config scripts etc. The current setup is a bit of one drive client and a bit of offline files (ish). It just all seems a little messy.. redirected folders and environment variables etc. I was thinking of introducing some kind cloud drive mapper scenario or just using remote access? It’s been so long since I have done anything with staff laptops I wanted to make sure I am thinking on the right lines. I’m worried that although I’m moving forward they might feel it’s moving backwards as I’m saying it relies on internet access. Any suggestions? I have had negative experiences with DA in the past as part of my testing and own developments and I don’t think vpn is an option really. Thanks as always

Why not use ADBA?
-
So you have confirmed it definitely group policy that’s doing it ?
-
Have you hidden all drives in explorer or clicked hide this drive in group policy preferences ? Any reg keys been added?
-
so you cannot actually open explorer?
-
Folder redirection . Look At that.

Ok since i last posted i have been working on this.. I have now build and deployed 1803 with apps removed from the .wim Re done group policy and brought all redirection local login on wifi is now 6 seconds! Hope this can help someone.

I’m using wmi now for build types in the same way- works great for those split / testing environments

Have the same at our place with vbs. No pattern to it! Such a strange one I have give up troubleshooting and instead install It manually for users or get them to log off and on .
