  1. Way too much Awesome.
  2. Follow up. Yes it was problems with unresolvable shortcuts in the start menu. Cleared them up and all is once again at peace. Well apart from the dozen jobs that have walked through the door this morning.
  3. ahh looks like I can run Photoshop under Ubuntu. HOW-TO: Adobe Photoshop CS2 on Ubuntu - 8 steps!
  4. I have put this on my dell laptop due to the fact that xp was slowing down to a crawl and had picked up a rather nasty Trojan that wouldn't go away. Also the fact that it picked up the infection just by visiting an infected website. Now I have tried a few Linux distributions, nothing came anywhere near to being as perfect as this. Easy install, great package management, great support for other apps such as picasa 3 (which installed as easy as it does under windows. Even perfect wireless connectivity, it all just works. There is no way I would go back to xp on my laptop, I would even install it on my main home PC if I could get photoshop to run on it.
  5. Yes this is probably the problem, in fact it fits the bill exactly! Some of the shortcuts are probably pointing at the old server that is no longer online. Thank you very much, this was driving me nuts!
  6. I have folder redirection set up at the moment. Its been set to redirect, and does work. The problem is it can take 30-45 seconds for the start menu to appear. The PC's also lock up while this happens. ctrl alt del still works but otherwise the pc is unresponsive and the desktop will not redraw itself. Once its been through this process all is well but browsing of the network by a member of staff throws up a similar problem. This affects all PCs regardless of spec or image. It does not affect admin, but then again I dont use start menu redirection on that account. Network performance seem fine, certainly brisk when copying files ect. Now I have been through the following. DNS, was not working 100% it now seems to be running perfectly. File permissions are set correctly. Switches are working correctly. Servers have plenty of memory. The Staff account is not locked down as much as it could be either, fairly relaxed in fact. Ideas?
  7. I have visions of tens of thousands of Bankers and city types running away with pockets full of tax payers money, shouting see you laters suckers! And laughing all the way to the tax haven. I have yet to hear where all these billions of pounds have actually gone, someone has to be making a mint somewhere along the line.

    Virtual floppy

This one does, though it took a couple of seconds to work out.
  9. How much data is invloved? USB Sticks are getting very cheap, 32 gigs will be £20 next year. Otherwise think about USB HD's they can be very cheap, fast, and the 2.5" ones are fairly tough as they are Laptop HD's.

    Virtual floppy

This program creates a virtual floppy drive on your PC, then allows you to create an image. Works with Ghost. Great for creating bootable Ghost CDS and its lightening fast. (Hint install, start, create image). I can now through away my Floppies! W00T! Download Virtual Floppy Drive 2.1 - Virtual Floppy Drive application is a virtual floppy drive for Windows NT / 2000 / XP. - Softpedia
  11. Its a very interesting concept. There will be more devices like this but much smaller in the new year. But a small portable projector like this could be quite fun, at least if it could project a bigger brighter picture.
  12. .45 cal Black Powder Revolver, now that's stress busting. I always take them apart and use the magnets inside as fridge magnets. Very strong fridge magnets.

Nice with the tank and alarmed car
  15. The Quake 3 engine is open source, this does not mean that Quake III: Arena the game is free. You must purchase the game to use the data, or make your own game! There are three methods of installation. The preferred way is to use an official installer. Note that just as before, you can use a Quake 3: Arena CD-ROM from any version of Quake 3 (Windows, Linux, Gold, etc) to get the needed pak0.pk3. If you want the absolute latest ioquake3 technology, then check out how to build it from source. We have provided installers for the most popular platforms ioquake3 supports. These have been tested, and if they do not work you can report bugs to us about them. Get it | ioquake3 Not what I thought it was either sry.
  16. quake 2 & 3 are open source, I know quake 2 will run happily multiplayer from a share, you can switch the permissions on and off. Also quake 2 will run on anything!
  17. It might be a clbuttic mistake though.
  18. Agreed, does not like Chrome very much
  19. Its had a little post production, in that the lights from the houses have been blacked out and the saturation has been tweaked by a few points. Otherwise its pretty much the way it looked that night, its certainly very close to the way it looked with the naked eye.
  20. A quad core CPU, 9800 cheap VGA card and 2 gigs of ram is enough for the moment. The PC games market is being squeezed by the console markets higher profits. High spec games are few and far between.
  21. Took this last week from the back of the school with my new 450D SLR. Its now my desktop. http://wykeregisjun.co.uk/desktop.jpg
  22. We are going to hire a networked colour laser copier (£400 per year). each print then costs 4p nothing more, full page colour photo? 4p they fix it, they provide toner, we have to provide paper. That's it.No hassle and cheaper to boot.

    Left4Dead

True, the friends option on steam is great, as you need a good team to make the most of L4D on advanced and above. Also running to the safe house, then going back to set off the car alarm is just so much fun with a group of like minded individuals. Body counts go through the roof, you just have to coordinate your reloads.
