  1. I have had to do exactly this because my in-laws run a site with holiday lodges in it which are essentially big metal caravans with wooden cladding. I think these are the two products I used together:- Wireless Extender Hi Gain Antenna In the end I only needed one antenna which I fitted to the router (Netgear) and ran outside and onto the roof, and the extender at the remote end. You could fit an additional antenna to the extender if you needed to as well, and if this could be outside then even better because it would cancel out any effects of the metal and insulation in the mobile home - but not always possible because you really do not want to be drilling holes so unless you can get some extra cable and run it down through an existing vent or pipe hole. Maplin used to do antenna that was designed to stick to a window with a suction cup but could not find it on a quick search.
  2. Are the complete records missing in the NSTURESULTS table, or is it that the entries are there and the criteria data field is blank / incomplete? Also - is there any commonality at all in the reports that are missing, all one teacher, all one subject or student, all created at about the same time etc.
  3. I can absolutely appreciate what you are going through - had the exact same experience four years ago when by boy was 3 and convinced myself I would end up having to cancel the holiday over it! I printed my own photo for his passport, as long as it matches all the criteria in terms of size, background, facial expressions etc. you should be fine, mine was accepted with no problem.
  4. If you are using Microsoft Outlook as your mail client and you have got a copy of Microsoft Access then you can set up an imported table in Access from Outlook folders and then set up queries / filters to extract the info. For MSAccess 2007 you go to the external data on the ribbon, in the import section click on more - one of the options is Outlook Folders. This will take you through a wizard to get the data into a table. You could then use the INSTR command to find specific data within the contents field of each message. Might take a while to get the commands right to grab each piece of data, and a vb solution might be quicker, but it depends on what you are most comfortable with.
  5. The obvious thing to do is add a 0 before the room - so room1-10 would become room01-10. But this might be what you meant by not changing the entire convention. So your other option is to add a couple of fields to the table, one for room and one for computer number and then an action query that will strip out the room number and computer number to drop them into those fields. Then you could sort by those columns instead of the single column.
  6. You could force the home page to be an intranet page of adverts - which could help ofset the cost. Charge a local pub or tourist attraction £100 a year to be on the intranet page and that would cover a big chunk of the cost.
  7. Put an extra column in each table (will need to be the first column) that takes the values from two or three columns and strings them together - so bob smith who lives at 101 Fake Street would have a cell that reads bob_smith_101_Fake_Street - that will then be a single unique value you can use to look up because it will not have the same value as bob_smith_84_Another_street.
  8. Your bet bet would be to use a look up table (unless you are comfortable with MSAccess - in which case this would be by far the best option) You basically put each set of data into a different sheet in the same workbook. You then lookup the data in one sheet from the other using either the vlookup or hlookup function. Search for hlookup or vlookup and you should find a good tutorial. Couple of things to consider - far easier if you are just comparing the data in one cell, so first combining name and address into one long cell will make the job easier. Also the table you are looking up needs to be sorted into alphabetical order with the first column being the value you are looking up (so in this case probably the combined string of name and address).
  9. If there is no paper - what are students supposed to blow their nose on? What is the motivation for doing this? Is it to cut down on waste, increase effeciency, make rooms more easily convertible from one subject to another? Each would have slightly different implications on how you went about it. Also would make a difference if we are talking primary or secondary? And I guess the types of lessons being taught would be an impact too - art and design / technology would need slightly different methods to English.
  10. I manage to view a couple of pages then got an error message:- Came up exactly the same on a number pages - including ones I had already viewed once. But what I did see was much nicer than its predecessor!
  11. The schools agreement is based on the assumption that the machines you purchase already have a valid copy of Windows (as it is part of the T&C of the agreement). That is why you only get an upgrade disc - you should have got some sort of media with the machines you bought (although it was probably a system restore disk or something similar)
  12. Could you produce a script that is run by the user when they login? Then the person running the script is the person who needs the ownership.
  13. this would be very easy in access. First you put a table in with all the words, including one blank field. Then you can create a query - include the table mupltiple times with the field that has the words as an output, once for each item in the list if you want every possible combination. run the query and you will get a table with each combination in each row. This will include repetition so Dog, Dog, Dog would come up as well as Cat, Dog, Mouse. If you did not want this then it would just be a question of putting in conditions in the queries to say they must not match other columns. But this does depend on how many words you have got, too many would probably make access fall over. If it was me then I would probably do it with vb script - but this depends on how comfortable you are with script.
  14. It would be tidier to import the spreadsheet into an access database table and create a form to fetch it. Basically the bardcode reader just types in the value of the barcode, usually followed by a carriage return. So anything where you have to type in the value and hit return to action will work with a scanner.
  15. We have written a basic social networking element into our VLE. All externally hosted ones are blocked by the LEA.
  16. We have been told at our last two audits that backup tapes should not be taken offsite but placed in a fireproof safe onsite. They did suggest if we really wanted them offsite then maybe partnering up with another local school and swapping tapes with them to be kept in each others fireproof safes.
  17. We switched to the latest SQL version of Oliver late last year, having been part of the original pilot for the very first version of Oliver. The result is one very ticked off librarian, an increase in technician time trying to get it working and softlink technical support have now made it onto our speed dial for the first time in over ten years of dealing with them.
  18. Of course the other option is to build a unique html page for each person to live in their user area. The only reason for the asp is so you can pass the username as part of the url to this interim page. The following code:- </pre><form action="http://mail.server/login.aspx" method="get" name="maillogin"> </for Would ask for a password and pass it on to the server with "[email protected]" as the username and whatever is typed in the box as the password. Because there is no asp code then this could be saved as html and run from anywhere.
  19. Not suggesting running iis one every system - just one system will do it, as long as the shortcut includes the username, which is what was suggested. Everyone's shortcut can point to that one workstation / server, via ip address if necessary, and then it will process and pass on to the web server.
  20. Any microsoft workstation with iis should easily be able to host the asp code without it using up any resources. Personally never had any experience of asp being problematic with handling forms.
  21. This is asp code, so does need to be saved with the extension .asp on a machine running iis (but it looks like your mail server is) the code is basically a form to be completed:- </pre><form action="http://mail.server/login.aspx" method="get" name="maillogin">< Sets up the form including telling it where to pass the information to - in this case 'http://mail.server.login.aspx' so you replace that with the url of the login page of the webserver that your original shortcut was pointing to. Anywhere that uses the code <%=request.querystring("username")%> is basically saying replace this bit of code with the value in the url that follows 'username=' (this is the asp code) So it uses this to display the username and also puts it into a hidden form field:- Which it will pass on to the login form, but does not bother to display it. If you were to replcae the type="hidden" with type="text" then it will display this field for you to see with the login name in. is the password entry box - type="password" means that the characters are hidden when they are typed in. Again if you replaced it with type="text" then the characters would be visible as you typed them Finally is the button that sumbits the form.
  22. This is using asp code - which should work on your mail server because it looks like that is what it uses. </pre><form action="http://mail.server/login.aspx" method="get" name="maillogin"> Please Enter Password for <%=request.querystring("username")%>:- "/> < As long as you pass to it the url including [email protected] then it will pass the information, including the entered password, on to the mail server exactly as your original example.
  23. Not sure which mail system you use, or what options are available to you but I would probably create an interim webpage to do the job. Your shortcut to the interim webpage could include just the information you want in the same way your current one does for the mail login. The interim page could then ask for the rest and redirect to the mail page. I think it could be done just with html code so would not need anything fancy to host it, and for your more severe sen kids they can keep the link they have now that goes straight to the mail server.
  24. I got passed the instructions by the exams team - and not got them any more. From memory it was a folder on the root that was the school name and center number, then a folder for each candidate named their candidate number with the files in that. A label hada to be attached to the CD with school and center number on and then it was posted off. Cannot remember whether this was all the work or just a sample for moderation - got a feeling it was the latter.
  25. With the English pilot (and also did one for Business Studies) we gathered the work together afterwards and put it onto a CD - there were very specific instructions about how the work had to be presented, folder names etc. I am thinking about maybe having an online drop in / collection box for the start and end of each session that is only available within the lesson window but not fully formed yet, got to have a few more discussions with the exams team.
