I must admit, I'm not an Apache or ISA expert. Sounds like you have a similar setup to us though (Server 2003, ISA 2006). Don't know how you connect beyond your ISA, but sounds like there could possibly be a problem forwarding SSL somewhere along the line. We initially gave the server side proxy settings during setup, which meant we had to do a full uninstall, then reinstall with no proxy settings which then worked fine. Once we did that our server side seemed pretty reliable. If it looks like you're getting a good connection but it's still crashing, I'd give their support a ring. They were pretty helpful with the fundamentals, especially getting the server side running. Our cobbled-together network roll out was somewhat simpler than going to each and every machine individually - their only supported network client install method! Sorry I can't be much more help than that - like I say, once we cleared the proxy details and reinstalled, our server side worked fine. Let us know if you get a solution though - be interesting to here what (else!) was going wrong with this software.

I've been looking at options for updating my rig, but don't have the cash yet. Pesky mortgage. Anyhew... I love the idea of a OC'd i7 920 (no point buying the higher spec i7 9xx's - they're basically the same chip, and you can OC the 920 to 4.0ghz+ on air anyway) BUT it uses a hell of a lot of juice, so unless Pappa is on the board of directors at EDF I'd settle for a P55 board, socket 1156 i7 860 (plenty of headroom for OC'ing these too) which will use way less power. You still have mega high bandwidth DDR3 to use, and crossfire for ATI cards. I used to be an nVidia fanboy, but lately ATI have stolen the march in terms of hardware and software - nVidia's drivers have been patchy for a while now, to say the least, and lets not talk about their chipsets... I would definitely be looking at at least a 5850 (with a view to getting a second in six months time) or a 5870. Again, there's OC'ing headroom in both if you're that way inclined, and the drivers are still young, meaning you should see steady performance improvements as new drivers come out. Of course, if you're made of money, the 5970's are out. They'll spank anything on the market, but you'll pay close to £600 for one at the mo Oh, and a caveat to your choice of P55 board is detailed here (P55 boards to avoid) Get a good quality PSU with a strong 12V rail. The number of connectors is by the by. Hiper or Corsair make good offerrings around the 500-650W range. You shouldn't need more unless you add graphics cards or OC. Hope that was of some use. Our Business department's running it this week. Server side needs SSL to connect to their server, and despite asking for proxy details, it doesn't need them as it picks up the settings from IE (for us at least). Its a pig to get rolled out as they don't support a network installation - their only supported option is to visit every machine and run the config. We spent a day cobbling together a proper unattended install. You have to distribute the .msi, script a file copy of the system.xml from a configured install with the right settings, and import the IE certificate (exported from same configured install) all in one GPO - works a treat. I would tell the IFS tech team how to do it, but frankly I'd want paying! We then create a locked down user with access to nothing and put the shortcut in the startup folder, and we're done. If anyone wants more info, let me know. As far as what it's all about goes - dunno, but it must look good for the kids results, or no-one'd bother. Now, back to updating the ALAN tests...

We have a Win 2003 server R2 Standard SP1 running SQL 2005 and only serving a few machines for the cashless catering system (7 tills and 2 PCs). Yesterday, the backoffice system wouldn't run from the client machine, so we took a look and found the folder shares on the server were gone. We needed things in a hurry so rebooted the server (long overdue anyway - its usually solid as a rock, so no need) and all was well. Come in this morning, and the problems back. Shares are gone again - can't even get the share tab on the folder properties dialogue. A quick sniff in services and google shows the "Server" service has stopped. Its set to Auto, and started fine after the last reboot. Still trauling the event logs, but none of the error events relate to the service. Restarted the service with no problems. Wondering if any of you with infinitley more Server 2003 and SQL knowledge than me might have seen it before, or know what might cause such a fundamental service to shut down? I did a quick search of the forums, but "server service" returns more than one or two results! Apologies if I'm oblivious to a previous thread on this. Any help gratefully recieved...

Hmm. That'd be a no then. Have you got a managed switch that you could conect it to/to it so you can see whats coming back from the ports? If not, I have found the nice Dutch chaps at Procurve support very helpful in the past!

What is the second switch and how/what speed is it connecting? Is it auto-negotiating or fixed? Is there a firmware update available for the 1400? We had connectivity problems with a 4000 series a while ago which were resolved with a firmware update. Can you browse to the IP of the switch and get into the config to see if there are any informative errors coming up?

Lets face it - if anyone confuses those two logo's then they deserve to pay several hundred pounds for a mp3 player with low capacity, restricted accessibility, and lousy support so they can show off their touch screen... Apple. iDon't.

Oh dear oh dear, After checking everything, verifying our profile was fine, checking and double checking permissions, uninstalling and reinstalling flash, and basically chasing my tail for 24 hours, I decided to have a look at the source for the pages that weren't working. I find some unusuall URLs in the calls in the source code, so check those against the students web filtering, and guess what - the sub-domain URLs are blocked. Marvellous. Unblocked the URLs and all of the problematic Bitesize flash that wouldn't play suddenly springs into life. In case anyone's interested, it was BBC - Homepage... In a way I'm glad it proves that a) our network setup and maintenance is sound, and b) apparently the webfilter is recieveing its updates! Thanks guys for the script and reg key info. Tried 'em both and no joy. Looks like some content works fine, and some doesn't - in particular the science section of bitesize is causing problems. Will keep looking down the profile/permissions route and see what we come up with. Reckon we'll rebuild the mandatory profile (irritating, cos its been fine for over two years...) and try everything on a PC with a clean FP10 install and take it from there. Will post the solution, as long as it doesn't turn out to be too embarrasing Thanks for the posts anyway - hope others had more luck.

Hi, Got sick of Dell here, went out on a limb and bought a load of Stone PCs - good price, and got imaging, installation and pretty much anything else I wanted thrown in. We got SFF desktops, but they do at least one ITX model.

Hi DMcCoy, Got the same error. Over wrote the profile with that of a user that didn't experience the problems, but got exactly the same behaviour. Will set up a test and double check though... Anyone know of any profile permissions or profile folders that FP10 uses? I saw a thread on an Adobe support forum last week suggesting a problem with redirected desktop folders, but the desktop folder is left in its default location in our mandatory profile, so that seemed unlikely. Our staff have redirected desktops, and they are fine. My head's getting sore from all this scratching...

Hi Bossman, Yeah, we're vanilla, so deployed using the .msi direct from Adobe a little while ago. It looks like only some Flash content isn't working - BBC Bitesize in particular. Other things seem to behave, so we may be going down a different avenue... CC3? You have my sympathy...

Hi there, Any response to this would be appreciated - we're currently looking for a fix for this too. Seems Admins and staff are fine, but student users get a blank screen where the flash object should be. Gave a test student user Domain Admin permissions, and still got a blank screen. Using Mandatory profiles for students, roaming for staff (with redirected Desktop). All XP Pro SP3, IE8, FP10. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flashplayer, and overwriting the mandatory profile with a "known good" profile. No joy. Will update if we get anywhere. In the meantime, any wisdom will be gratefully recieved. Alex.
