I spose it depends why you want to have another system?? You can use those FM transmitter gizmos to send a signal to the existing head unit - which is easier than wiring. Food stamps and vouchers would be a waste of time and effort. If someone wants some fags or booze and can't buy them directly - what'll they do? Buy whatever they can and then barter (probably at a disadvantageous rate) for what they actually want. As we know from working with kids each day - humans are very crafty animals.

The argument about the "deserving" and "undeserving" poor is such a waste of time - the question is what do you want to do about people who have not (for any reason) got a job - are you going to provide some sort of welfare so they don't starve on the street or are you happy to let that happen? If the latter, then there's nothing further to be discussed. If the former, you can start to think about how much. Sanctioning people because you don't like their attitude or choices is pointless whenever there are fewer jobs than the number of unemployed, in fact the lazy or feckless person is providing a service by not competing for the small number of jobs that there actually are. Really there is no logical reason to be annoyed or upset with them until there are unfilled vacancies and all the other people have got jobs - that's when you would be justified in having a crackdown on people who are not working.

What a load of censorious killjoys you lot are! If you could work up as much bile about the overpaid and the tax dodgers, I'd concede you have a point.

If he wants the state schools to be more like private schools - I say the bottom performing quartile of kids in the state sector should be transferred to the private sector and the top performing quartile of the private school kids to the state sector and then we'd see how the league tables looked ;-) More seriously - I've just read "The Blunders Of Our Governments" (interesting book by the way) and Gove's proposals (and I realise he was mostly grandstanding to his own party...but...) closely follow the stages that are outlined in the book for creating a big blunder - namely he surrounds himself with "Yes" men, doesn't like to hear or take on board any opposing ideas, likes to get swiftly from an idea to actuality without thinking much about the practicalities and doesn't expect to be in the same job for much longer to take the blame or pick up the pieces when it all goes tits up... Just a thought...

If that was what it was for - I'd have less of a problem with it - however - its not about improving your care in hospital or at the docs - its about earning a buck from your private details - personally, at the moment - there are no data on my record that are embarrassing or pose a threat to my personal or private life - but that might not be the case in the future - a "social" disease or a bout of mental instability might make things difficult in some arenas, and once you're "in" this system, there is no opt out, whereas if you're out at the start, you can always opt back in if you think the benefits outweigh the costs.

Call me an old fuddy duddy (or a bonkers revolutionary - see thread on Royal Family), but I'm not so keen on the imminent scheme to centrally collect all our medical records and "monetize" them by selling them off to whoever fancies them (in particular to the insurance industry, which with the way the NHS is being privatised in pieces, I guess will be a big player in providing healthcare soon) - irregardless of assurances of privacy, it seems quite clear from reading around that the records can be de-aggregated fairly promptly and your details retrieved. I find the packet mix is best made using the Pizza mode and then proving and cooking in the oven. When its past its best - it still makes cracking toast and even better bread & butter pudding - yum!

So that's a "Yes" then - I've got a Panasonic and its really good (makes better bread than most others I've seen) and is used pretty much every other day. If you're making white bread - I'd recommend Lidl's bread flour - its only 78p for 1.5kg - enough for 3 large loaves I'd also recommend getting a big bag of Fermipan yeast - our local health sells it at about £3 a bag - put a little in a jar for using and the rest in the freezer - it lasts ages and is much cheaper than the little sachets My everyday recipe is 500g flour 1tsp yeast big glug of oil 350ml water Bear in mind that once its cooked - it needs an hour or two to cool before you can use it - so unless you get up very early - you can't have fresh bread for breakfast I'd say get an electric bread knife too - they make cutting it a LOT easier Let us know how you get on
