  6. I'm using IE 7 and I am also getting this (problem?) I preferred it when it opened it in the same window, but thats me just being picky. Great job!!!
  7. me too, I think its a lot better. I find the current one a bit 'busy' and not very interesting to look at.
  8. I used to have to convert the files on my machine and then save it in their user area. But we rolled out the Compatability pack two weeks ago with no problems. We are running XP machines abs 2003 servers.
  9. Yes I'm pretty sure I've done that
  10. Hi there I am currently dabbling with xampp and elgg. I tap in the address and get message Error: Database connection failed. It is possible that the database is overloaded or otherwise not running properly. I have gone through everything I can think of, making sure the Apache mod_rewrite is running, created the database using phpmyadmin because elgg doesn't do it automatically, checked the Config.php file., Restarted xampp and all the mysql services, rebooted etc, etc, but it's still not playing ball. Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks in advacne
  11. I also cannot stand text speak and bad spelling really gets my goat. Forgetting about dyslexia (of course) there is just no need for it and I think it boils down to people being lazy. Last year my local butchers had a sign in their window for sausages; "Bye one get one free" It was after they had shut, I went back to my car found a scrap bit of paper and pen and wrote a note telling them it should be "Buy one get one free" - the next day the sign was down ad didn't go back up. What also made me mad about that is that self employed people get all the help with tax breaks etc, the least they can do is learn a bit of basic english. Grrrr
  12. I've got their 4MB service and I spoke to them the other day to reduce my bill (which I did!) and I asked them about network throttling. They told me that they don't throttle the network. What happens is depending on what package you have got, between 4pm and midnight if you download more than a certain amount then you loose you broadband speed for the next four hours. Although Virgin are unlimited downloads on my package I can only download 500MB between 4pm and midnight before I loose my speed. On the plus side he reduced my bill by half for the next twelve months and then after that its guaranteed £27.00 less than what it should be for as long as I stay with them - cool
  13. There are two of us, we have office/workshop/server room and until the summer holidays the server rack had no sides/door on it as my previous manager didn't want it on, after he left, thats the first thing I did and the difference was outstanding. We still have to put up with the heat, although its slightly better now I have the cabinet ceiling fans on. The only aircon we have is a portable unit, that really isn't up to the job. We are having a new building at the moment, but there isn't one inch of space where we could put our servers
  14. That dude was really lucky he didn't break his neck. I wonder of that would haev made him think twice about doing something stupid next time?
  15. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the hell does it work?? I've got 4 people to try it and its 4 for 4. I'm now like a kid with a new toy. I'll try this with the kids tomorrow on the whiteboard.
  16. A company I have deisgned a website for registered a .co.uk a few years ago with outerscan/1stnames They want to redirect their .co.uk to their new .com, problem is that they have no paperwork (they can't find it) to be able to log in and set up web forwarding. I have tried many times to contact them, but only ever get a answer phone and no-one ever calls back. Does anyone use these people? If so do yo have a number other than the one advertised on their website. Any help would be appreciated.
  17. I do it at my school (IT Tech) it was part of the deal so I could be full time. Although, the science tech does science and the DT tech does all D & T (Food etc) and I do the rest of the school, I've no idea how many appliances, but it includes kettles, hoovers, floor polishing machines, TV, Videos, DVD Players, OHP. On the HSE website it says, you class a portable appliance as anything under 18 Kilos that you have to move to use (hoover etc). Things like IT equipment, I am doing on a three year rolling program, because it doesn't move to be used. ANy new equipment that gets bought in gets PAT tested before it goes onto site. Our school has 850 kids on roll, so its not that big a place.
  18. What are the hours in the week?
  19. Plus the fact the advantage that a MAC has over a PC is that they tend to be industry standard in recording studios etc, etc. So that if any of the students goes into that side of things when they leave you will have already given them some good experience. And thats what school is all about IMHO.
  20. Hi there I am relatively new to coding/scripting so please bear with me. I want to create a web page with a seating plan of our IT room, every time a user logons on I want the web page to show who is logged on to what computer. I have tried something along the lines of this; % On error resume next strComputer = it111 Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" _ & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\\" & strComputer & "\root\cimv2") Set colComputer = objWMIService.ExecQuery _ ("Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem") For Each objComputer in colComputer Wscript.Echo objComputer.UserName Next Wscript.Quit % ...but not had much luck so far. Could anyone help me please??
  21. Well done looks great, the only thing I will say is that on the links down the left hand side on the pupils page you have spelt governors wrong, not want you want to see on a school site, otherwise topmarks
  22. @mattx I would generally agree with you, but you can't really put that on a CV! My old NM was of the ilk that quals did'nt matter, he'd rather have a good person with people skills and the ability to learn quickly. Unfortunately when it came to trying to get an interview for his job when he left, I was told I did'nt have enough experience, maybe an MCSE qual would have stood me it better stead. Plus the fact, I am working with server 2003 every day, so I can get the experience of using the kit that way.
  23. Sorry if this dragging up old posts again! School have agreed to pay for my MCSE Just want to know that if I do it myself what books are best to get and also where can you go to take the exams? Thanks in advance
  24. Yr 7 & 8 get 70p Yr 9 get £1.00 Yr 10 & 11 get £1.20 Yr 12 & 13 get £2.00 Colour costs 10p b & w costs 5p A3 colour costs 20p Those allowances are per half term. It got introduced last Sept with no problems. If they run out, kids have to buy more. These allowances were determined after consultation with staff on how much they would likely need to print out. Most things are emailed or copied into the public drive Staff printing credits are taken from dept. budgets, so they have to careful Only had one member of staff moan in the past year, but they got used to it.
  25. Very, very funny! True there was a lack of IT related jokes, but it more than made up for it. The bit at the end where the guy was denying he was gay and then she mentioned Heat magazine and he broke down - fantastic. Moss pretending to be the bartender at the end as if he'd been there forever. That man is very funny.
