  1. before my NM left he told me that I need a .bat file that points towards a .reg file that should map the printers and that I need to put it in TS profiles?? Anyone know if that is correct?
  2. ' Printer mapping script using TS Client Name Option Explicit DIM cName, wshNetwork, strComputer, objShell Set wshNetwork = CreateObject("Wscript.Network") Set objShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") 'Get client environment variable strComputer=objShell.expandEnvironmentStrings("%CLIENTNAME%") cName = Left(strComputer, 3) Select Case cName Case "IT-" wshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection "\\gwc-mbr-05\Main Office Laser Printer" wshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter "\\gwc-mbr-05\Main Office Laser Printer" End Select WScript.Quit Sorry to bring up old posts, but I need a bit of help. If I save this script and get it to run at start up through group policy, will this add printers to my thin clients at start up. ps ( what do I save the code as, is it a .bat file?) sorry scritping novice - please help!

  4. I never said i don't like it, i just have never really seen it advertised, if it was on i would watch it. Is it on the satellite channels or normal telly?
  5. I like watching motor racing, moto gp, football (obviously), tennis, swimiming, extreme (skateboarding etc), gridiron, basketball, rodeo riding, triatholon. In fact I don't mind watching most anything if i've got the time.
  6. Apologies if this has been asked before, I had a good look but couldn't see anything. I have had to put our new students into active directory. We do this by making a new organizational unit for the year of entry, so in this case 2007 and then create users within. Since my NM has left, it is up to me. I copied a user from the 2006 OU and then copied all the rest. Now the problem I have is that the 2007 all belong to the 2006 group. How do I change the group they are in? Or have I done it completely the wrong way. I did have a go with CSVDE.exe but to no avail. Can anyone help me. I would also like to know how to put a new 2007 group with all the new students into the global address list. Many thanks in advance.
  7. For our normal computers we have login scripts depending on the room they are in, so in turn you only see printers in IT1 when you login in there. Probably just answered my own question, does that mean a separate login script for the thin clients. Would my existing login scripts override the citrix policy? Why won't the exisitng scripts deal with the thin clients?
  8. Hi There. I am new to Citrix and thin clients. Could anybody tell me about setting up printers. I have imported my print server, which inturn has populated the printers tab with all my network printers. I have then created a new citrix policy so that when any user connects they see the list of network printers. However, when logged on to Thin Client I can only see 1 printer that happens to be in the same room. None of the others are available. Hope this makes sense?!?! Is there some higher setting in Group Policy, or somewhere else, that overwrites the citrix policy. Thanks in advance

    MAC and music

Hi there I want to investigate getting some MACS for our music dept, with the industry standard (?) LOGIC 7. Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience of doing something similar. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
  10. I also use freevirtualservers.com In the eighteen months that I have been with them, I have not had a problem until recently. I contacted them via the helpdesk and the problem was resolved within 2 hours. Highly recommended
  11. I recently had a problem with an ex student who had made up a bebo page about a teacher, now while there wass nothing malicious about the staff member, she wasn't happy about it being there. So I clicked the link to contact Bebo, told them what had happened and within two days they hd removed the link. I also regularly search bebo with our school name (luckily it only brings up about 10 pages) look around the usual suspects, and if there are any of teachers, or videos of kids in class when they should be working, it goes to head of year. Recently had a student post some pictures that were taken in class, some of them were innappropriate, letter home to parents and problem sorted. I realise though its not always as easy as this for some schools
  12. thanks for the reply. No I don't think it can be all day events because I don't really have any, maybe only a few birthdays
  13. Hi there I have got a bit of a problem syncing my Orange SPV m700 with outlook 2003. We have Exchange 2003 and I am using WIn XP Prof. Every time I sync my Smart Phone with Outlook for my calender, it doesn't work. However if I use the calender with OWA it syncs up. Is there anything I'm missing??? Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi Andy Thanks for that, I wil take a look Stuart
  15. Back in 2003 I applied to become a police officer, but unfortunately failed at the last hurdle, then had to wait 1 year to apply again, in which time other opportunities presented themselves. And so I never applied again, but that is what I would want to do if I were not an edugeek. And to try and put another question out there, Do any of you have second jobs to supplement your income? I have had to start work at Sainburys 3 evenings a week, what a bummer!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. I have been asked to look into becoming a test centre so that we can offer the ECDL to students (and eventually the community now that we are an extended school) My question is this; Has anyone recently been through the process, was it easy, what kind of costs did you incur and which company did you go through for the software. Obviously I am keen to get this right, mainly because I'm the one who would be running any after hours courses we manage to get people signed up for. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Stuart
  17. I have now finally got this to work ok and its looks great. I can't wait to get it going for my infant school so i can update their site. Any ideas when the completed template will be ready???
  18. I have now come across this site - http://www.cssplay.co.uk/layouts/fixed.html, I'm not sure if there is a tutorial on how to do it I have just started to really get into css over the holidays and can't believe that I haven't sooner, how simple is it???? Anyway hope this helps, hope it is still relevant to your query???
  19. If you ever want to employ someone for 7 months at professional design rates, give me a call!!! Hopefully it wouldn't takeme that long. No offence!!!
  20. I'm no expert, but I would go >Insert>Template Objects>Editable Region As i understand it, this would make the centre content change and all the navigation stay put, (or something like that)
  21. Always, Always wear a shirt and tie, always have in whatever job I've been doing. I just think it portrays a professional image, (although I don't know if people take me more seriously because of it??) The only time civvies come out are in holiday time, or when we have to get and move the lighting rig around for school productions etc.
  22. After years working in industry (although not in IT), I am lucky enough to have got my first job as an ICT Technician I have not been on any training courses or have any formal qualifications, only know what I have taught myself having owned a computer in one form or another since the age of 8. I genuinely look forward to coming to work every day, and while the money isn't great at the moment, job satisfaction can be more important (and the holidays take the egde off as well) I do not plan on being a technician for ever, I welcome the chance to move up the ladder at the first possible opportunity and I hope that supervisory/management experince gained in industry, won't hurt my chances. I also agree with the earlier post about working in eduation over industry, much, much better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
