  1. I can confirm SIMS.net runs on Windows 10...
  2. Well you can time my download by my posts - just completed Now need to find a blank DVD
  3. Okay, started from the beginning again, this time it took me through to another part of Technet. Enterprise 64bit iso now downloading without using Akamai, 15% 10minutes remaining.... Here's a link to the enterprise version: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/dn798751.aspx?ocid=wc-mscom-wol You'll need a technet account/MS ID to access it.
  4. Interesting, I might try the standard consumer one then! There is an Enterprise version, link is hidden on the Insider Program front page. It's the version I'm trying to get. I think it is downloading, just can't see any visible clues other than the download manager is taking up CPU cycles according to Task Manager. Does the standard version download using the Akamai NetSession Client?
  5. I seem to be falling at the first hurdle. Can't seem to download it. Or if it is downloading the cruddy download manager I was forced to install doesn't appear to be telling me anything. I NEED A PROGRESS BAR!!! For those who have successfully got it, did you download the Enterprise version or the standard home preview? And how long did the download take/speed of connection? Thanks.
  6. For both Windows and Mac: If you enforce code only runs if signed by the online app store then legacy programs cannot run and you will have a hell of a lot of unhappy customer - Linux wins. If you allow legacy apps then there is no way to enforce the use of the appstore because publisher can ignore it and provide apps to customers the old fashioned way. IOS works because it is a totally enclosed environment and has been that way from the beginning. Even Google struggles to enforce their appstore only on Android.
  7. We've used an ancient version of this in the past: MSI Package Builder - Create MSI Packages Automatically Not free but will do exactly what you want, and is easy to use. Just install the program on a clean PC with this running in the background. It monitors what's going on during install and then creates a new MSI from it. Couldn't be simpler.
  8. It is down for everyone. @Koldov PM'd me the URL and we've found what the issue is. Hopefully he'll be able to sort it.
  9. What???
  10. That's nigh on impossible for MS to achieve on x86 without breaking backwards compatibility. Didn't they try this with RT (Arm based) and look were it got them. Even Apple haven't locked the Appstore down to being the only place to buy from on Macs and, in theory, it'd be easier for them to do.
  11. Well, the error reads like it's DNS, unable to resolve host name. What DNS server is the proxy pointing to? If you PM me the URL I can test it from here and see if it's local to you or an host problem.
  12. Don't worry, it's a mixed boat and a lazy sysadmin. License wise (they're all VM's) I could get every server upto 2012 if I wanted. It's the fear of breaking something. Our DC's are 2012 though, got to give me some kudos for that
  13. The Windows Insider Program sounds interesting - but do I want to move that fast? Might sign up to get a copy on a laptop. Might even think of making it the main OS on my office machine. If I do then I'd be up for the Edugeek Working Group - but whole school roll out? Not sure I'm going to be as hot on it as I was with Windows 7, 7's gonna hang in here a while I think. Server side - I'm even more conservative about upgrades. I've got some 2003 servers I really should get up to at least R2, if not 2008!
  14. I think it's just a relic of the pre-download era of the late 90's early 00's were it was about shelf presence in stores like PC-World. It wouldn't surprise me to see a Home/Pro split and that's it in 10, as I said 8.1 already includes the ability to pay for additional features so they must be thinking that way. Also, doesn't most Windows 7/8 install discs include all feature anyway and it's the activation code that determines whether its pro/home/enterprise/whatever? I thought they stopped specific discs for specific editions some time ago.
  15. I noticed 8.1 allows you to purchase additional windows feature packs. I pushed the button on mums laptop and apparently the ability to purchase additional features online isn't available in the UK (was just curious to see what those extra features were). - - - Updated - - - Erm, I think that's exactly the point - to get people to buy into SA...
  16. Isn't Enterprise the Software Assurance edition that adds in BitLocker and a couple of other SA benefits?
  17. Is this Spice Girls - or Genesis?
  18. I'm sure I've seen the Spice Girls perform in a different order...
  19. There are differences, but outside of virtualisation I doubt many people would come across them. Maybe some high end video/3D production apps might be compiled against a specific SSE instruction set for added performance, but it would be high end professional industry specific stuff.
  20. Here's the Great Yarmouth one from a couple of years back: The REALLY big breakfast: 6,000 calorie fry-up is slammed by health campaigners... but a hit with diners | Daily Mail Online 1/3 more bacon and sausages, 1/4 less calories - go figure! As for likes/dislikes. You can have my tomatoes and black pudding if I can have you mushrooms...
  21. Listen to as much as I dare in school. Not bad. Probably needs fresh vocals and the production dumbing down a bit, but yeah, definitely a song that'll work with a good remix.
  22. That's genius, I want to hear it, make it happen! A DnB version of Rocketman. Don't usually go in for that sort of thing but something tells me that will work and might even be better than the original.
  23. Used to listen to music at the last place, here I think it's frowned upon. So much so that I don't even put music on during the holidays now! If I was it'd be my iTunes collection, just over 5,000 songs and counting. Can't be done with radio anymore. @BKGarry, I see nothing wrong with your music choice so far. I can certainly find a lot worse in my collection if I tried. Was listening to The Lion Sleeps Tonite on the way home from work yesterday (and singing along to it). I have a 30 minute drive so most of my music listening happens then. I'm in an R.E.M. mood (again) this week.
  24. When it was first announced - "Assassins Creed in Middle Earth" - I was all over it, got to buy it. Then every demo I've seen since has made me want the game less and less. Seriously the game play and graphics look mediocre at best. It's gone from Assassins Creed to Arkham Origins meets Gauntlet in my eyes. I'll pass.
  25. Here's the EES documentation: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=microsoft+ees&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCMQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.microsoft.com%2Fdownload%2FF%2F6%2F6%2FF6611596-992F-498A-A8EE-B0B39A6A4D0A%2FEnrollment_for_Education_Solutions_Program_Guide.pdf&ei=_msqVKjLOYbWav3bgLAO&usg=AFQjCNEcCYBStZ9JBMRm8J287FWI9lDxcQ&sig2=3LNdBiLRYuq2NSrp0SzFRQ If you purchase: EES Enterprise Desktop with Core CAL suite then you get everything you need. The CoreCAL suite includes desktop licences for SCCM. SCCM is licensed by managed clients so in effect the CoreCAL includes the rights to run a SQL sever and SCCM server. AFAIK that's the cheapest way.
