Is this happening with all users who logon to that workstation or just one particular user ? Does the same thing happen when you logon as an admin (with full workstation rights?). I would suggest looking at the paths that AS uses (my resoureces, profile, shared resources etc) as a starting point.

I'm pretty sure that this will switch off your message. Read the Description for the GP setting. All redirected shell folders, such as My Documents, Desktop, Start Menu, and Application Data, are available offline by default. This setting allows you to change this behavior so that redirected shell folders are not automatically available for offline use. However, users can still choose to make files and folders available offline themselves. HTH

GPO setting: User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files\ Do Not Automatically make redirected folders avialable offline

Rab have u tried actually seeing what happens when a student logs on and runs the software for the first time? I would setup a teststudent account and logon to one of the machines and run Inventor to try and see what happens. Sorry it's not a definitive answer

Do your students have man profiles ? If so I would look for path/permission problems. If these paths do not exist then Inventor launches a repair process. This can take a while if you have 20+ machines accessing the admin image over the network.

Take a copy of the ntuser.man from your problem profile and copy it to your desktop. Run regedit from your desktop and highlight the HKLM folder. Goto FILE then LOAD HIVE. Load your ntuser.man from your desktop. Give the hive a new key name (student). Then open HKLM then STUDENT. Then search for the problem path and delete it. Once you are done highlight the STUDENT KEY and select UNLOAD HIVE from the FILE menu and exit regedit. Now rename the ntuser.man in your profile area to ntuser.man.old and copy up the ntuser.man from your desktop. Logon with a user who assigned to that profile to see if the problem still exists.

You don't have a reverse lookup zone on your DNS server ? If so try deleting the entry for the rogue machine then run a repair on the NIC - it should release/renew IP settings and re-register on the DNS server
