i'm pretty sure that there is a box that you can tick to auto sign in (on the page where you enter your credentials). and it should be possible to run spark at startup/login via a startup script/placing a shortcut in the startup folder

i'd say its probably a hardware fault. have you tried a known working stick of ram?

this was how one of my mates disabled the webcam in a laptop. it also worked for disabling a soundcard in a desktop machine. and yes, it was deployed over an AD network

it shouldn't affect the internal LAN traffic. if it does, then you probably have a serious config error somewhere. are the machines in the same workgroup? (press windows key & pause/break, then click computer name)

Kaspersky has an inbuilt spam filter in the internet security package. if you didn't go for an all in one paid solution, i guess something like mailwasher would do the job

i'd recommend Avira Anti-vir (easy enough to disable the popup VIA GPO on XPPro), comodo firewall (and malwarebytes which you already have) for the free route. i'd stay away from avg (the latest versions anyway) as it has very poor detection rates and slows down machines from past experience. for the paid route, id suggest kaspersky internet security 2009/2010. You could buy an older version of KIS 2009 cheaper and upgrade it to 2010 for free. If you bank with barclays (online) you will probably be able to get it for free.

i'm pretty sure that MS activation uses the serials of multiple components (HDD, processor, ram , M/B etc) and if too many change, it sets the alarm off. A M/B change shouldn't affect the activation status of the machine

you really need 512mb+ ram if using WDS to capture images & upload them to a server. i have got around it by capturing the image to the local HDD and transferring the image manually to the WDS share (via windows explorer)

i don't know if FreeNAS can do all what you want, but its a linux based distro ( i think) that runs on an old PC.

what i'd do is get a 'reference' PC to install XP/win updates/SP3/antivirus/firewall/other programs on, sysprep the machine, then capture the machine's image to the server and deploy that out to other stations. as far as i know, its only vista (& higher OS) images that can have updates applied directly to the WIM image. also, if you can, contact one of the mods to get the post moved to here (where you may get better answers) : http://www.edugeek.net/forums/o-s-deployment/ hope this helps

MS released an update which allowed you to transfer games to the HDD but you still needed the game disk as an anti-piracy measure because the xbox won't start the game (from the hdd) if the game disk wasn't inserted. hope that makes sense!

what i'd tend to do is to grab virtualbox and set up a internal network connection between the machines so that the test domain doesnt have access to the local network & internet. if you need the internet on the test domain, just add another lan card to the test server and set up RRAS edit - just seen vmware in the tags, just set the NICs to custom and make sure all ethernet cards are on the same VMnet (ie VMnet 4) then all test machines should be able to communicate with the test domain. again, if you need the net on the test domain, just add another NIC, set up RRAS and set the NIC (you just created) to NAT in the vmware ethernet config page

Hi all, I have a HP vista (home premium) laptop here with startup problems. As i understand it, the user thought the laptop was running slow, so downloaded Malwarebytes anti-malware and it found a lot of malware (so I'm not sure if this should here in the vista board or the security board!). the problems came after the machine rebooted to remove the infections. after the reboot, the (rather useless) startup repair wizard came up and couldn't fix the problem. i did a bit of googling and manually rebuilt the BCD using my mesh vista installation disk (as one never came in the box with the laptop and its the only 32bit vista cd i have). That fixed the bootloader issue fine. Now the next problem i have is that it says the termddx.sys file is missing or corrupt and windows cannot operate without it. The weird thing about the file that i mentioned is that only one result comes up on google and the solution is pretty useless as i cant boot windows. I have checked 2 other vista home premium systems and can only find termdd.sys which leads me to think that a bit of malware has planted the file on the system. i then booted of a ubuntu 8.10 live cd and renamed the termddex.sys file to termddx orig.sys & made a copy of the termdd.sys and renamed it to termddex.sys. After rebooting the laptop, i got the screen where the green blocks go across the screen with © Microsoft Corporation (like any other vista machine at boot) and thought i had fixed it. I then left it to finish booting but it just hung on a black screen. When i get the time, i will try enabling boot logging and see if it turns up anything useful. i don't want to restore the system just yet as the user never made a backup any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this rather long post, but i hope i have covered everything you need . computer_expert edit: i also ran the avira rescue cd and it found 17 viruses/trojans etc on it.

If you enable the wireless connection, then right click it > properties > wireless networks tab and tick the 'Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings' then click OK. It should now let you connect to the network via the Windows Wireless zero config program/service
