  1. I know with our server, we block inheritance for other gpo's and just assign a gpo to the container that the servers in...takes a bit of fiddling though. if you like I can email a report of what our gpo does (which settings) pm if you would like. this publishes anything in the C:\startmenu container to the start menu. (we use app-v and it publishes to this dir.) it also publishes my computer to the start menu, only giving them access to their Network area and any shares (readonly etc)
  2. Hi, I have an issue with an address that is coming up in the GAL - i'll go through how this came to be, to give you a better indication of the issue. ---- We used to have a system in which users would email a public folder named 'helpdesk' - this was linked to the email address [email protected], now last week, i decided to move this public folder to a user account - I disabled mail on the public folder, then created a user 'helpdesk' and assigned the email address '[email protected]', I then migrated all the messages over to the new account - if you are wondering why I wanted a user as opposed to a public folder, it is to take advantage of the shared calendars and Sharepoint integration that a user account would offer. this part is all working fine - the issue is that in the GAL for end users they can see two entries for Helpdesk, the new user account with the correct email address, and the old public folder with the address [email protected]. I dont understand why this still shows up as the folder is still mail disabled, and you cant actually email the address as it bounces back... I need to sort this out as quite often users are clicking on the wrong address and getting a bounce help!
  3. okay, the only way we seem to be able to do it is to have *.domain.local in every computers 'ignore proxy' list and use https://exchange2010.domain.local/owa, I can do this for an individually logged in user, but what is a quick and easy way to do this for all users? I have tried pushing via policy, but no joy :/ we have Forefront TMG by the way
  4. so deleting the additional ssl port (447) allows things to be deleted in owa again, but means I will need to find an alternate solution, its definitely something to do with EWS not liking more than one ssl in its settings
  5. okay the issue I have been having is that when the outlook client connects to the server, it is looking for the exchange2010.domainname.local certificate, now for our web app address we have just https://exchange2010 - this is for internal use only. the problem is, if I assign a certificate with the name 'exchange2010' web app will work, but the outlook client will kick out a ton of errors. at the moment clients cannot access https://exchange2010.domainname.local/owa in their browser, only the shorter name. what is the best way to do this? I also try creating a second binding in IIS with the port 443 with the exchange2010 certificate attached to it, this works perfectly, except for the fact that I get an error when deleted messages in OWA "An unexpected error occurred and your request couldn't be handled." any suggestions, as i'm banging my head against the wall at the moment. I have - -checked the virtual directory auth options with reference to the EHLO exchange dev websites advice -set the exchange2010.domain.local certificate to IMAP,POP and SMTP -set the exchange2010 certificate to "IIS" -got forms authentication setup help:confused: edit* if it helps these are the errors i'm getting in the exchange event log with regards to deleting messages WebHost failed to process a request. Sender Information: System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment+HostingManager/30542218 Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/EWS/exchange.asmx' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. 6. gpupdate /force then gpresult /v it comes up under applied group policy objects, but not under the user configuration part - which is where all my changes are..hmmff...couldnt seem to get the loopback thing to work either. time to go home!
  7. Doesnt seem to work - followed that exactly as you said - have a curric machines security group and an all staff security group added them both to security filtering and removed authenticated users and then linked the GPO to the Class rooms OU in AD If I login as a member of staff I get nothing (no changes) tried running group policy modeling and that doesnt seem to apply the changes either. *grinds face against wall*
  8. hmmm computer configuration isnt an option really as its stuff to do with start menu's, folder redirection etc that arent available under computer configuration. how does loopback processing work?
  9. We already do, Have a Curric machines OU with subfolders for each classroom and a seperate OU for staff laptops, but if I assign the policy to the curriculum machines container and run gpresult /v it says the policy is disabled due to security filtering, even though the user is assigned to the policy aswell. *headaches*
  10. Hi all, I'm trying to apply a policy to all curriculum workstations for all staff users in the past students were locked down with a student lockdown policy linked to students container, but I can't necessarily do this with staff as I dont want it to apply to staff laptops. (basically want to keep curric machines clean and tidy) I've tried all sorts of things and cant seem to find the right combination I have a test staff account and I can get my policy to work if I apply it to the staff container and then add this one user to security filtering, but this affects ALL computers....I just want curric machines... help!
  11. still having the problems. in bindings on default website I have 'http' 'host name is blank' 'port =80', have also tried the hostnames exchange2010 and exchange2010.rhsnet.local, none seem to make much difference, although when people access OWA they access https://exchange2010/OWA is this correct or should it be https://exchange2010.rhsnet.local/owa? i'm pretty new to setting up mail servers so go easy
  12. I ran the upgrade on friday, now users cant delete messages on the server, nor can they attach files to messages, get a little popup saying deleting -> "Your network connection isn't available. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk with this HTTP Status code: 0." Attaching - > "The action you tried to perform couldn't be completed because there's a configuration problem on the server. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk." any ideas?
  13. ahhh....bingo.....colleague had increased the size of the VHD ffrom 100gb->200gb but hadnt checked the size of the host partition which was 100gb doh... migrated storage to a bigger host drive now.... problem solved thank you
  14. Our fileserver VM 2008r2 on hyper-v with scvmm 2008r2 has as of about 30minutes ago just paused itself, we've not really been doing much on it, other that migrating user stores, the problem is, if you unpause it you get about a minutes usage before it pauses again. info. we have other VM's running, host servers are overspecced (dual x5650's (6cores per processor) and 32gb ram) host cpu usage is at about 5% and both have about 6-7gb of ram available - the only issue at the moment is that there is only one 1g link for each host server to the main domain network - they have a gig dedicated cluster link and each has 4 x 1gb to iscsi san using mpio. what could be causing this?...nothing in event viewer
  15. trying to DCPROMO (remove) an old dc, I believe this "tapi3" is something to do with telephony (which we dont use) can this message be safely ignored? we have two shiny new 2008R2 domain controllers ready to take over. Cheers
  16. all i know is the parent program is schools 3, we have enterprise desktop CALS but apparantly they are Sans MDOP, according to our licensing supplier, you have to pay extra and that it apparantly it states that its an option 'available' to Software assurance customers, but not included.... its a little vague if you ask me.
  17. Active directory recycle bin for a start, google is your friend
  18. OK, heres the thing we've got the option of getting the mdop pack on our licensing agreement but it will cost just over a £1000... the products in particular I was interested in are APP-V the diagnostic tools, inventory and advanced GP. With regards to App-v is this a better way to deploy than say a standard config manager package - we've been running Novell Zenworks 7 up until this year but wish to get rid of as it isnt compatible with vista/win7...but I do like the way that zenworks publishes to a seperate part of the start menu or application launcher. Any advice here, because if we do go for it we will have to justify the need for the purchase to the business manager. also with App-v, is it pretty heaver on server load and network bandwidth? We currently locally install 'chunky' commonly used apps such as office and macromedia and deploy on demand any others - with deep freeze on the machines wiping those extra programs on reboot (Although we want to get rid of DF). cheers Jack
  19. we have 4 ICSI, 3 to main network and a direct link between the servers on the last port for cluster and live migration data (SCVMM) seems to work nicely although I might add an additional 4port card to expand main network capacity. fyi: we are running 2 x dell R610 with dual 2.6ghz 6 core processors and 32gb ram each - connected to a md3200i for VHD and file stores and then backed up to a Dell NX3100 (12tb)
  20. problem solved.... turns out the smtp connector on our 2003 server was using a smart host (RM MX), removed these settings and bam 1600messages flooding the queue on our 2010 server and a PF database file of 680mb wahoo
  21. Hi Guys, I've been transitioning out exchange 2003 server to a new 2010enterprise VM and i'm almost there - everything is done, but I cant seem to get the public folders to migrate and show up for users. the pf database exists on the new server but is only 16mb, I have done the move all replicants command from 2003 system manager and if I try to delete the pf database on 2010 it says I cant as it contains replicants. I've basically tried all manner of things as suggested on technet and not really got anywhere... a quick, easy - i'm new to powershell so you might need to explain well solution is what i'm after as I want to sign this VM off as complete so I can move onto Config manager *sigh* cheers! Jack
  22. we are getting this error alot and also when users login it it forever kicking them out and logging them back in again.. i'm not really sure how to resolve this problem, so any help would be much appreciated.
  23. yes, we already run a 2003R2 domain which is gradually going to be moved up to 2k8r2 although domain controllers will stay physical. also with scvmm, should it be installed onto one of the hyper-v servers or a seperate server? I dont have the documentation with me at the moment as i'm at home, but I guess thats something to consider. oh and we have reached the ends of our budget having just had to replace our core switch (8+ years old) with a brand new swanky 3com unit 4800g sfp I think.
  24. Hi guys, we've just had our hardware arrive for our new hyper-v environment, I was just wondering if people could check over what i'm going to do- and make any suggestions - not relating to the vm's themselves but to the actual configuration of hyper-v the servers, san and switches Servers: 2 x Dell Poweredge R610 - 2 x x5650 processor (6 cores each - 2.66ghz) 32gb ram (ddr3 1333mhz 2x 4port nics totalling 8ports one broadcom one intel redun power 2 mirrored drives (not that important) SAN Switch D-link DGS-3024 SAN Dell MD3200i - dual controllers (4ports per controller) 12x 450gb 15k drives --------------------------------------------------- Network linking each server will have 4 ports to the san switch and 4 ports to the main network (link aggr) the san will have all 8 ports to the san switch (link aggr) the SAN environment will operate on a different ip range to our main network, so we will have 172.16.*.*(main network) and 172.15.*.* (SAN Network) Server OS have installed Server 2008R2 with Hyper-V installed as a role on both machines which will connect to an ISCSI LUN to store VM's. We will also be using SCVMM to manage this environment. ---------------------------------------------------------- any feedback would be much appreciated.
  25. looking for a good quality but not overly expensive gigabit switch with jumbo frame/link aggregation to place between our 2 Hyper-V servers and SAN no fibre or 10G ports necessary. currently using 3com around the school, but they are just part of HP now so not bothered. have seen Scan.co.uk: 24Port Netgear GSM7224R-100EUS, Layer 2 Managed Gbit Switch with Static Routing and this so far DGS-3024: 24-Port Managed Copper Gigabit Switch - Network switches, gigabit switches, ethernet switch solutions, port switches and other network switches from D-Link, from D-Link Business
