  1. i blagged a logitech rx 1000 (sounds like a car) because I do quite a lot of graphics work, its corded, but very accurate and comfortable plus is quite reasonably priced - think this was between £11-15.

  4. - The Rollover images were created in fireworks as one image then sliced, with duplicate images with a colourised image applied over the top for the rollover effect. other effects on the site use javascript (mootools to be precise) -------------------------------- K2 is a brilliant content management system from joomlaworks, its free (unlike the Zoo product from yootheme) and allows you to catalogue and present content in much more advanced ways than the original editor, when combined with the JCE editor and rokdownloads (which has a plugin for JCE) you can do pretty much anything within the wysiwyg editor, including uploading zips containing images to auto create galleries (great for non-technical users) you can directly link streaming flash videos, setup more granular user permissions so give people or groups permissions to individual pages or sections - with the ability to create additional groups of users...this is something you cant do in the base 1.5 install. There are many more features that I cant really remember or require far to much to explain when you can just have a look at their website. One thing I will say is that it doesnt look that different on first impressions, but once you look deeper you will see that it is faaaaaar better than the base joomla system. and you can import existing pages and sections from joomla. if I get time I will try and put a little jing video together to show you all. as for the dates, I agree..its something that I might change...I need to dig around in the modules settings... when I actually get some free time. oh and for anyone that uses mootools, I found that by changing the libraries to the google variant (done by adding a few lines of text to your index file) which is compressed you can save about 20kb on you js file size....useful for those trying to cut file size...compressing html works too, but would keep original copies if you want to do any editing. finally... my favoruite tool Firebug anyway...hopefully that might be useful to someone
  5. we have one, is brilliant, just using it on a standard whiteboard projecting around about 90inch's shweeeeeet! and yes, you can use smart software I believe
  6. Ryde High School Languages and Arts College My first 'big' website running on Joomla 1.5 with the K2 v2 content management component (love this) template is based on a yootheme.com shuffle template but then heavily modified with uniservity (Yack!!!) styled to match it. just wondering what you older more experienced people think? thankyou

  8. My mums got an 04 C3 1.4 hdi, brilliant little car - i'm actually looking at upgrading from my C1 1.0l to a new style C3 1.4 diesel or petrol
  9. would you want it on all the time though?... our unit rotates between charging devices so its not charging all units at once, plus its timed so will only come on at certain times of the day.
  10. the lapcabby units have a power manager in the back of them, you may be able to buy it seperately from a unit... I believe the company that makes them is called Monarch....thats what our supplier told me anyway.
  11. ahh, then perhaps are kids are being VERY good. my bad!
  12. have enabled it - and it has been enabled for a while (to block compressed files, exe's, .swf (games) & system files... but nothing really seems to be happening, have set to active screening, but no files are being removed and there is nothing appearing in the logs in the C drive... the screening is set on the main students dir. will this pass down to all subdirectory layers?.. Thanks

well we have around 1000 users (including staff) got about 40wyse units, which are okay, but really if we can use existing pc's...it would be better.. we're changing to an acadamy at the end of the year so they're not prepared to pump to much into this I would say could probably allow 20-25k for 3 servers and 2 x 7110's and thats at the very top of our budget. if we were to replace those pc's with £300 machines with monitors, that would be nearly £40,000.. for the desktops I would rather wait until the acadamy comes in and let them replace them...infrastructure is more important, as all of our servers are past it.
  14. in the network adapter properties, go to ipv4 then 'properties', then go to advanced...under 'default gateways' type the IP of your gateway/ISA server voila thats how I get it to work on windows 7 ent anway.

well what we want to do is: virtualise 10 servers to 3 physical (have specced up servers with dual quads and 32gb ram) attach those servers to a storage array (currently we use a server using no more than 500gb for user account and read-only/staff shared area's) currently quite interested in the Sun 7110 4tb replace aging LTO2 tape backup with some form of faster more efficient device (perhaps another 7110 in a distant block) we have 120 dell 170l's that need replacing, but what I have suggested is that instead we run them as thin clients (we already have 500 ts cals) as we can then run win7 on them, and then money that was going to be spent on pc's can be spent on infrastructure...ts client software could be something like 2x or Codtech CULT linux based o.s. Hyper-visor will be either citrix xen (free) or hyper-v (including in schools agreement) - we dont have the budget for hyper-v we have systems config manager (have tested it, but not setup in a production environment yet) exchange 2003 ISA server 2004 AD is operating at 2003 R2 level does anyone see anything disgustingly wrong with that?

well I have already spoken to Phil from Sun and Andy Trevor from the cutter project so I've got a good idea on specs, prices and functionality. I like the sun gear and I am trying to push for it, though we have got a company coming down next week with regards to Netapp amongst other things, whether we go with them, well who knows...it all depends on what price they come up with, but so far its looking to be more than the sun option. Once I have written up a full plan, I will pop it on here as I would like to see peoples opinions and if they can suggest a timescale for the project.

had an interesting conversation with a supplier who provided me with some documentation on a lawsuit between netapp and sun based on their storage solutions, specifically the 7000+ series. he seemed to think it might have implications for sun users should it go through.. though I will note the file was dated end of 2008 and he didnt seem to know much about the sun hardware.. could anyone shed anymore light on this as i'm currently looking at the netapp fas2020 and the sun 7110 (4tb)

  23. Rackservers.com - Specialist Rack Server, Storage and Graphics manufacturer Custom Servers, Rack mount Servers, Storage Server Intel & AMD and Oracle/sun microsystems with regards to server virtualisation plus a disk array, we've traditionally only bought HP, but I have seen some interesting offerings from these companies such as the broadberry cyberstore. also could anyone offer any thoughts on the Open-E DSS storage system? with comparisons to storage server 2008. thanks oh, we will be running server 2008R2 with Hyper-v, looking at 3 x dual quad/32gb ram server plus 3tb disk array.
