If it's in SIMS, there are a couple of ways; 1. Using COVER in SIMS, you can suspend classes 2. In NOVA you can UNSCHEDULE the classes you wish to drop off the cycle. Hope that helps

I'd have thought that the tidiest solution would be to have two classes - and timetable them at the same time (if not yet scheduled then leave one class un-staffed until the other is fixed on the cycle, then add "additional staff / double up room" via timetable) This would allow 2 distinct levels, keeping the maintenance of the academic memberships and course manager to function without manual intervention. The downside of this approach is that the staff member would need to take two registers though. But should make the P16 Census easier and hopefully more accurate.

Hi, Unless a class has some periods assigned to it, it will not be able to be scheduled - therefore not appear in the cycle and a register will not be present for any day/period of the week via the Take Register screen. Assuming that you need the kids/staff to have it showing on their timetable and therefore have the option to be registered then you could add a new year into the NT6 Model Screen, called Hw as the example below, add a block of the subject (again Hw is used) and assign 1 period so that it can be scheduled at WedP6. I've added a group for each year in the block and named accordingly - assuming that there will be 5 groups. This can obviously be changed to reflect the number of homework groups taking place. do not link the year to other NC years as a derived year if all students are not expected to attend a group. In SIMS Academic Management the required Homework students will need to be "added" into the Hw Year Base Band. once in the band, locate the block and assign the register will show on the teacher timeline etc as normal and show student memberships NOTE: if all students should attend, then creating as a derived year will save a bit of time in Academic Management in SIMS where you would need to "add" the students to the new Hw Year Base Bands, the derived year will now apply the eligibility rules and expect a selection to be made at block level. The block will still need to be staffed, scheduled and roomed accordingly prior to submission to SQL. This will allow the optional bulk entry of kids to groups, show in timetables and allow recording of attendance to the sessions. Just be aware that when it comes to reporting lesson attendance, it will treat these homework sessions as regular lessons where attendance is expected, and a no-show to the session will affect overall lesson attendance (if assigned to a group in AcMan) Thanks

To suck back the last T6 file submitted to SQL (SIMS) you just need to have Nova open, then select: Data > Load Dataset > Create Construction Dataset Next Login with SIMS ID/Password Give it a name, date range and comment Next Select SQL Dataset Next Finally pick the file from the list that you would like to recover - then click Finish Hope that helps, if it's not too late

Hi, a couple of quick questions, and points to note....... 1. when creating a new census - are you creating with the Pervious Census as the starting point or using the Data in Course Manager? 2. the data items highlighted in Yellow on the census panel (e.g. an end date for a student learning aim) is not neccessarily an error - it is highlighting that the data item value is different within course manager/previous census. 3. this return has a direct impact on funding for the sixth form - clearing the errors doesn't mean that the data submitted is accurate and could lead to a loss of funding when the EFA marry up learning aims with exam results. 4. the learning hours submitted in the Programme of Study has no links to the Learning Aims dates - so no need to get calculate exact dates. It's more important that the dates match if the student took exams and completed as normal in July, e.g. end date 31/07/2016 and planned end date 31/07/2016. if a student 'ends' early (e.g. 30/06/2016) then a Learning Aim Withdrawl reason will be expected to explain why they did not finish and ended early. 5. If you have swaithes of students who "ended" prior to the Planned End Date, then there is a bulk tool within SIMS that can correct this issue.

you can still bulk print timetables via a different menu route on a 64bit machine, if that helps

Hi, to put it simply, Cover does not read (and include) the pastoral structure from SIMS. A timetabler then needs to create 'something' on the timetable to identify Reg for it to show in cover / timetables. This is normally a Non-Class Code, but NCC's are teacher only activities, so no students can be assigned. To get around this the timetabler could create 'teaching lessons' called Reg Group names and schedule as per a normal teaching class. In SIMS students would then need to be assigned a reg in TWO places, one in their student record (year and reg panel). The other would be in the academic area (e.g.Curric assignment by scheme) to place students into a 'registration teaching class'. Whether this extra work and duplication of tasks is worth it is up for debate, but this will get you the result required.

hi, you are partly right. the two types of basedata relate to two different processes within the exams calendar: 1. btec registration 2. recording results both sets of basedata will import but will need to be imported into the 'correct' season. typically the registration basedata is imported into a season containing the month of september (usually this will be setup with SIMS as a standalone 'September' season) results basedata requires a season with july in the season pattern. some schools include july in their 'summer' season pattern, although there is no problem with a dedicated july season identifying the correct destination season using the basedata filename: e.g. S7B13_15.X01 breaks down as such S = type of individual file (in this case the sylabus file) 7 = season must include this month (6 = june, 7 = july, etc A = oct, B = Nov) B = usually the level (btec here) 13 = calendar year, the season must be in this year (july 2013, sept 2013, etc) _ = english basedata, W = welsh 15 = board routing code (check the list of boards in sims exams organiser (tools > setup > exam boards) this is the 'board' you will be right-clicking in the basedata tree .x01 = the version of the basedata. not unusual for the boards to re-issue over time to plug gaps / add missing data, etc, so .x02, .x03, etc knowing these rules will make the importing of basedata less trial and error. the process of administering btecs is a two part affair, and both sets of basedata will be needed: 1. in sept of the year that students start their course (e.g. sept 11) the reg basedata will be used to enrol students on the course. this is an optional task for sims and will not affect the import of results when due. some schools choose to enrol candidates directly on the boards website (edxcel online) 2. to import results into sims the result basedata is needed (the july 2013 data). the school will then create an entry submission (regardless of whether this was carried out in the reg season) the board use this info to identify which students you want the electronic results for and send them through. the full basedata info is available from the jcq.org.uk website (search for 'formats exchange version 14') normally your support team should provide guidance for sims (we issue quite comprehensive notes) as this is just the tip of the iceberg, there are many issues related to btec results and the correct reporting of the data

are u using an international or independent version? the maintained version has major changes for p16 functionality.

since the 7.146 upgrade the inactive/active filter no longer exists. to get similar results remove the search dates in the course browse. locate the "missing" inactive course, tick the auto update links boxes. send timetable from t6 to sims. run update course memberships in course manager. should to the trick.

if you create all the classes you need for each group in the block you could simply have an over sized block and schedule the sessions required as needed. this assumes that all kids in each group are doing the same thing. with this approach it really quick to reschedule, all amrksheets will exist for correct staff and no further curriculum assignments will be required

The labels should be transferred to sims as part of the SQL Link

sounds like the rooms have been defined on the curriculum plan (classes screen). For various reasons this is not the best approach to take for most rooms in most circumstances as the only way to alter the room is to change the room assigned in the classes screen, which unbuilds the block.

In SIMS.net, Tools > Academic Management > Apply Timetable. Make sure that the actual calendar day has a corresponding timetable day.

Hi, you can do this a number of ways, one simple way is to use the 'value' of the result, as opposed to the grade for each result (e.g. 4c = 25points, 4b = 27points, etc). A formula column can then add two levels of progress (4 points) to the value already achieved. Hope this helps.

Within SIMS you could use the numeric value of the sub-level (as opposed to the grade) and use a formula to add the numeric value equivalent to two levels of progress to it. Did something similar recently for a secondary school myself.

Hi, Do you get the message straight away or doe it attempt to load the schedule? If so it could be a corrupt SPL file that was submitted to SQL (and stored in the DOCSTORAGE). Have you tried recovering the construction file via: Load Other File > Create Construction > SQL Dataset. Does that load up OK? Thanks.

Hi, The most common problem i see is that the tags are being spell-checked / grammar-checked which then cause the report to fail. try with the following options in word de-selected: check spelling as you type; check grammar as you type. Sadly though once the report has failed the tags will need to be re-inserted, but you could just test with a couple of tags. Hope that helps. Ian.

Hi, Create a student on roll report with a sub report of family links (sibling name,etc) Filter the student on roll by students with mailing point = true. May need to make sure your sims housekeeping to set mailing point to youngest or oldest child has been done this academic year. Thanks.

I see, so different centre numbers from a student perspective. I knew that SIMS could do different centre numbers on a per board basis but that would have been for the entire student population. So this is a way of splitting the student entries for a board as if being sent from two different centres. Thanks. I'll have a play as this will be a useful tool to bear in mind given the number of schools I support!

Is this a slightly different situation than a single site being registered with exam boards using different numbers, as a SIMS user I thought this was possible anyway?
