  1. For a lot of businesses, a Chromebook is an ideal tool. Manageable centrally via MDM so nicely ticks all the data protection and security boxes, fully integrated productivity suite, a huge ecosystem of tools that link in, and allows the user to customise and treat it like a personal device. Easy to fix issues (powerwash and bam, fixed, for most things). Its an ideal enterprise tool IMO. Which is why people shouldn't really question whether ChromeOS is an enterprise OS under the DfE's guidelines.
  2. Announcing the next EduGeek Modded Minecraft server SteamPunk [LPS] Server address: mc.edugeek.net This is a 1.19.2 Forge modded Minecraft pack. 3. Those are in premium storage @dmj - so high speed SSD. For "normal" hot storage it drops to 1.5p. But we digress from the thread...
  4. That's per month per GB @dbluston. So per year would be £1.44 per GB. So, for the £360 they charge for 20GB, you'd get 250GB with Azure premium blob storage.
  5. That bugs me a lot to be honest, considering how cheap storage actually is these days. For top speed premium blob storage in Azure, it costs 12p per GB...
  6. Server has updated to whatever version is current as of right now.
  7. Chromebooks, iPads, Apple computers all would comply with that guideline just fine. They all have central management tools. Chromebooks have Google Workspace. iPads and Apple devices have MDM/ASM, and can link to Active Directory as well. Linux would be fine as well, as its an enterprise class OS, and has plenty of tools for central management - just depends how technical you want to get.
  8. I'd do this by using PowerShell to grab the list of users and their directories, then iterate through them to copy the files where you want them.
  9. There's another angle to this discussion I think. Your contract with your supplier. When signing a new contract, you do not have to simply accept the terms the supplier provide you with - it is a negotiation. Portability of your data at the end of the contract period can easily be included in the contract. It is in the GCloud framework contract, for example. In fact, the explicit "Offboarding" terms in GCloud12 when we signed up to Bromcom state: "The Buyer can export any data at any time using built in functions, and therefore can extract data prior to the contract end. At the end of the contract, the Buyer's SQL database is offered to the Buyer via a secure web portal, and will be made available for up to 30 days..."
  10. Our Data Manager is frustrated as at around 9am she still couldn't run reports. So, it doesn't appear to be fixed.
  11. @TheCookieMonster - a status page that doesn't list major parts of the system not running? That's a useless status page. Look at Microsoft's status page. If a part of Office 365 is degraded, or doesn't work? An advisory is put up. It doesn't mean the system is "down" but the information is there on the status site.
  12. This is exactly what people talk about with Bromcom manipulating its uptime statistics. You are now aware of an incident preventing a function of Bromcom from working, yet, your status page says there's no incidents. This renders the status page pointless, as it doesn't present what most people consider as incidents. If a part of Bromcom is not working, it is not "up". Customers shouldn't have to send in tickets. The information should be right there on the status page for all such incidents.
  13. Yes, which is why you'd want evidence as part of the process. You'd need to be specific in what you were looking for. Not go by their public facing status page. Eg. ask for things like "number of hours where the system was in a degraded state for more than a single customer" rather than "number of hours the system was in a degraded state" (as the latter, they could go by their own definition that they only consider it degraded if all customers were affected etc...).
  14. That's where designing your tender process comes in. For the ISP? You'd want to make sure you asked for reliability stats - get specific. The same applies to MIS. If you have concerns about a potential bidder, design your process to highlight any of those issues. Eg. If you are worried about Bromcom bidding because of the issues you've seen from customers about performance and reliability, ask those questions of all suppliers. "How many hours in XYZ year was any part of your MIS offline, how many was it suffering any type of degraded performance" etc... Metrics, not feelings or opinions.
  15. The problem with that thinking is it is using personal opinion and experience to procure something using taxpayers money. That's simply not allowed. You have to provide a fair playing field to all potential bidders - incumbents can't have an advantage, else everyone would still be stuck on SIMS as "we're all used to it".
  16. Devil's advocate... But with the court case(s) that Bromcom have pursued, could some of this not be down to unfair procurement? The court ruling regarding UL choosing Arbor vs Bromcom covers 60,000 pupils and 90 schools. That skews the figures somewhat doesn't it?
  17. At that size, a nursery would not need to be tendering anything. Realistically, the tender limit is sufficiently high that full tender level processes will only need to be done with larger Trusts. Smaller Trusts? They should be using a framework deal like GCloud. That's the very purpose of them.
  18. Yeah, you'd need the Steam version - there's no crossplay with the Xbox version (the PC Gamepass version is the XBox version it seems). The Xbox version has no way to connect to a dedicated server, only games hosted within the same version.
  19. I have now set up an Edugeek Palworld server. To access it, hop onto our Discord server and take a look in the palworld channel for the IP and password in the pinned messages. Please let me know if you have any issues, or to prod me if there's an update I need to install.
  20. This server is now offline.
  21. This is still happening here. I cannot trace what is causing it. It happens to random Chromebooks and random users. Sometimes no users can log into a Chromebook and it loops. Others, one specific user cannot log in and it loops, but other users can login fine. Powerwashing doesn't solve it. Waiting a few hours can clear it sometimes, sometimes not. There's just no consistency at all.
  22. Server updated to 1.11.0.
  23. Looks like we had a very brief power cut at our central site (enough to kill my desktop I remote to sometimes) but other than that, all good here. Don't think we even really had much flooding (we get a lot of it on the roads around here now it seems) - usually causes a field to drop all its potatoes and mud on the A358. Not heard any reports of things being blown down either.
  24. I wonder if a circumstance like that @DalekSec, could you segregate that part of the network so it had its own public IP - so you could liaise with DisneyPlus saying "this is only used for living area, not public, this other IP is our school classrooms"?
  25. We've not changed any polices recently (not for over a year in fact), and all our OUs have the same policies. Weirdly, some of the Chromebooks having this issue yesterday are working fine this morning...
