  1. Power off the printer and turn it on again with the big button held down (the one with the tick on it). This seems to clear the error and allow printing but won't fix the fault itself.
  2. To the point... buy an iPad. We've demo'd both the Slate and the iPad, there is simply no competition. Windows 7 just doesn't work well on this kind of device. The iPad profiler was an excellent tool, allowing you to build a student profile for your iPad and essentially 'image' it whenever you want and works on Windows PC's. With good educational apps, excellent and responsive interface, it's the kind of device which students would want to use. Check out a company called Stormfront who can arrange a demo iPad for your school. Personally, I've always been a Windows chap and I approached the iPad as a complete cynic so it really is worth trying if you're looking at these kind of devices. To be a little more positive, the Slate does make a good tea tray.
  3. We have about 5 Dell 3130cn, the high capacity toners are pretty average pricing for a colour laser printer of that value. A large colour copier is going to produce cheaper prints but they are much more expensive beasts to buy. As a Dell customer you should be able to access pricing on Dell toners through the Schools Premier portal which includes a discounted rate. Speak to your Dell account manager if you aren't aware of this. However, it's also worth asking around Dell resellers who will sometimes give you better prices on Dell toner than buying it direct from Dell. Ultimately, I think the best way to save money is to use colour printing for best/final work and use mono for everything else.
  4. This problem has been regulary cropping up on our Windows 7 test PCs with Server 2008 R2 DC. I've tried following the suggestions eventid.net and KB articles but I can't seem to stop this from happening. I've read many forum posts, articles and "fixes" but nothing is resolving the issue. Occasionally it'll apply the group policies and everything will seem ok. But on a regular occasion policies aren't applied and I get this error in the event log of the client PC: I can browse to NETLOGON but not the SYSVOL and GPUPDATE gives the same error. One other thing to note is the DC does have dual NICs which I heard might be an issue. If anyone else has experienced this problem or if you have any suggestions it would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks.
  5. We intend to go with 7 from September. However, I'm a bit stuck with the mandatory profile bit as the old "Copy To" button is greyed out. It's the only thing that's standing in the way right now as we have the image, deployment and policies ready. (Hi btw, first time posting in these parts!)
