Thanks for the warning and concern SOMABC, but it's ok as no one is in my school at the moment..... All away on hols except for me and the cleaner. I control the cameras as well and can see everything from my desk so even if someone does come in, I would know.... Thanks also to Arthur (as well as every one else who has helped here) as this worked a treat. Actioned above and did the housekeeping which gave me 640mb on the c: drive. Rebooted the server and it came up stable. Further checking on the c drives of both servers revealed that Server one had a page file on the D drive but somebody had left Server 2's page file on the c drive. I moved it after extending another drive and rebooted the server again. Now have 2.6gb free on the c drive of Server 2 and 2.4gb free on the c drive of server 1. Emergency over now and thanks again to all of you.... Also now have a Ubuntu Live cd to try out when the time comes.... Thank goodness for the internet, this site and all of you......

It is a replica server... CC3 Server 2 (DC). Will try Ubuntu and and see....

Anyone know if booting from a 180 day Trial CD would allow me to mount the drives?

I tried F8 to DSRM but all it did was scan all the drives / partitions and tell me they were clean. I didn't see any way to get to a command prompt or be able to get nto the c: drive. Any ideas?

Ta so far everyone. Still trying. Problem is, I can't find the schools server software to be able to boot from it. Looking at Bart PE now to see what I can find. Made a server boot disk to try and get to a command prompt but so far can only use the boot disk to boot to the error point so not much good yet. More to come.....

Indeed... Is an RM CC3 server and yes, you guessed it... Has a 12gb c drive. I had this sorted at my old school when I replaced the servers (although it took some pushing as they don't like non-standard setups). I'll have a look at what's eating it up as soon as I can get back in and let you know. Will try the CD/PXE boot if I can. Don't have any software to hand at the moment as don't know where the previous guy has it stored. Am looking now. May have to get the cd's replaced to do it but will take time. More to come.....

I just started at a new school as the only technician and whilst in the middle of sorting out the lack of space on the Admin server c: drive, CC3 Server 2 has re-booted over night and hung at "unable to load directory services" due to insufficient drive space. No doubt the c drive is full... I have only been here for two days and havn't had time to get to this server yet! Any ideas on how I can get to the C: drive to clear enough space to get this (Old) thing back up and running?

Hello all, this is my first ever newly created posts so please go easy on me if I ...... You know what I mean. Anyway, we are a Staffordshire High School with 2 X CC3 servers and 1 Admin Server and have sacked off all support this coming year from RM and SICT and are going it alone with only an RM software support only contract (which only really gives us Tech articles for our CC3 system and the ability to hotfix the servers to keep them up to date). We still have MIS support for the Admin network from SICT but that's it. We are using Backup Exec to zig zag all backups on CC3 and Admin at the moment to 2 X 12TB NAS boxes located in secure outbuildings which are fibre linked to the gigabit network. This will leave us without a Bare Metal Disaster Recovery soultion for the CC3 servers that I am comfortable with in case of a full meltdown. As such, I was hoping to get some of your advice on CA ARCserve® D2D as this is the way I am leaning at the moment but need to make a decision and get it all sorted before April 1 when we loose our support contracts. Any of you using this. It looks and sounds good and for about £198.00 per server I am about to push the button, but.... What do you think? .

Perhaps a slight misunderstanding here: The code lock on the door was fine with senior management. Time was the issue as we needed it done straight away. The whatsit hitting the fan was over releasing the code and was a matter we wanted to come to a head anyway. The solution to the problem was found in part in some of the ideas here in this forum. I also have no problem with someone firing up a stand alone wireless network in a classroom (or in the carpark or a house across the street that I can log into from my office if it's unprotected). Not my problem! As long as I don't have to support it and it is not ported to any of our school networks. I would not attempt unauthorised entry into anyone elses area and I do not expect them to gain unauthorised entry into mine. SSO's install locks - yes (but then they know the code) - when they have time. I install locks better than our SSO's - straight away as I make time. I install servers - yes. Locked up servers that no one can access but us. They hired me here because I am extremely versatile, this I am proud of. No job for us takes long. It happens, and it happens quickly......

Many thanks for the staggering response to my first ever post for help from what is obviously an active, entertaining and well knowledgeable community that I am now even more proud to be a part of. I thought I would post an update in response to your assistance which has been very helpful indeed! We have approached our union links here in the school with our intent to use the code in a sealed envelope for emergency purposes only (thanks for the idea). For convenience, and due to the fact that we do trust the site supervisors (just that they were not diligent enough with the first code we set to keep it safe from "over the shoulder" onlookers) we will keep this in our pidgeon hole. Only the Site Super and the two of us will know it is there. If it is ever opened for any reason or goes missing, we will re-set it and notify the appropriate people that there has been a possible security breach. I should also mention (this is for the poor tech with no handle or lock) that we did not ask anyone if we could fit the code lock on the door. There was a strong indication that the answer "No" would have been immediately forthcoming. As I am very handy and have re-built three houses in the past (including door knobs and locks), I brought my own tools in and fit the lock myself the day before the recent weeks holiday. From that moment on, we felt safe to leave the room. This is when the preverbial whatsit hit the spinning bladed thing! Anyway, we think we are now on the road to an acceptable solution thanks in part to you all.... I will keep reading this post and respond in as timely a fasion as possible to any questions or requests. Will let you know how we get on!!

Anybody out there know if we absolutely have to give our office door code to the caretaker?? We have been loosing hardware bits and pieces from our office and software is at risk as well. To this end, we installed a codelock on the door. We also have an ex-technician in the school has been re-hired as an ICT teacher and has kept keys from his previous time here. He has been accessing our office in our absence whenever he likes even after having been askeed to hand back all the keys and informed that unautorised entry is not allowed. He is friends with the caretaker and we are certain the code will escape if we give it out. He is friendly with the head and the board too but we are responsible for the hardware and software in this room, aren't we? Help!!!
