I'm running 60 Toshiba NB200s with XP Pro on them and they work great. Not the fastest things in the world but the teachers are happy with the fact that they have a full days battery life.

In a previous life I've used the Microboards machines. We got what looks like the current G3, it had a hopped for 50 discs and the software so you can create a disc image with both data and label, hit print and away it goes. It was about £1200ish I think and an absolute pain in the neck to get working but once we did it was great and would happily churn out discs at a reasonable rate.

Bought a set on request of deputy head. Have never seen them used, IMO get one of those CD players you can put 6 pairs of headphones into, much easier and probably cheaper.

This was it! I should have figured this sooner but it didn't occur to me until I was doing something on the default website on that machine. Thanks so much. Now to figure out the problem of those that have not been properly ghosted.

Short answer is yes I think it can be done if you are left to just get on with it without any other interruptions but it would be a massive job. Do you need to reimage the PCs and laptops or just re add them to the domain? Would it be possible to get some help in from your normal supplier? Rich

Exactly. And surely if the data is being kept within the school system how is it a breach of data security anyway?

But why take only minimum information? Our CMIS system has every bit of information imaginable about our children including links to other siblings, current class, teachers etc. If they had taken a copy of more information surely they could have implemented a system that was easier to manage and implement! GRRRR..

It may well have been deployed, how can I check? It was on it's own machine, but the WSUS is running on the DC so it's probably linked in some way. Any idea how to remove the SCCM client or at least revert back so the client see it?

I don't currently have it running but I did install it on a seperate machine on the network for a play a little while ago. The fact that no machines at all are connecting is making me think it could be something like this. How would I go about changing this back? Rich

We're a primary school with Ruckus and have 5 laptop trolleys of 30 laptops each, the most simultaneous connections I have seen are 101 laptops and it worked perfectly well. This is very impressive when you consider most of the users were on Mathletics which is a Flash heavy website. Our laptops are a combination of very old (L20) Toshibas laptos, old Toshibas (A120) laptops and 60 NB200 netbooks. The new netbooks are great and do everything we need them to do.

Why not just use Windows Media Encoder and Streaming server? It's built into Windows Server 2003 as standard and will let you capture any source and distribute it around a network very easily. We currently use it to broadcast the in school radio every lunch time but I've tried it with video and it works great. Rich

There is an exception in the proxy settings for anything in our subnet range, should that be enough or will it need something more specific?

Hi all, I'm hoping I've just missed something obvious here but for some reason no clients are connecting to the WSUS server. It's WSUS 3.1.6001.65 on a server 2003R2 all clients are XP SP2+. I've attached a screen shot of the GPO that should be getting the clients to connect, I set this up a few weeks ago so I don't think it's a time thing. Rich

I've been in touch with Kirk Harry at Link2ICT, but he's on holiday now until after the Easter break. I reckon if you just log it as a call with Link2ICt they will sort it out for you. There is also a Forum which you can use to voice opinion. Kirk seems to be the main person doing all the implementing and documentation so quite useful to get in touch with.

The Canon 9500 is meant to be exceptionally good but doesn't have a built in network port. It shouldn't be hard to put a usb ->network adaptor on it though and away you go.

This presumes that you have both the ZMCustomizeMSI.js and the ZimbraOlkConnector at the route of your C drive. Once created I'm just distributing it to fixed desktop and admin machines. When outlook starts for the first time it will just ask for the users email address and password. If you have had the passwords setup by link2Ict they will need to be changed the first time they are used so you will have had to logon and set those up via the web interface. Good luck...

With exchange at least I'm an slightly more known environment of Windows as opposed to a Linux based one.

I haven't really, I suppose fear of the unknown with Zimbra.

Hi all, I'm looking for some opinion and/or advice on implementing an Exchange server. We have just received our email addresses from Link2ICT using their new Zimbra system and well it doesn't quite measure up to what I was expecting so I was thinking of bringing the email system in house on our own Exchange server. Now, I've never managed an Exchange server before and was wondering how feasable it was? We have a good AD system which will be moving over to 2008r2 over the summer and I thought that it would be a good idea to implement it then. We currently have 740 children plus 50ish staff so they would all require accounts as well as OWA(is that the right term for web access?) so could anyone give an idea of costs on the licensing and server required for this? Sorry for the long post and please say if you think I'm being daft. Rich

It's relevant experience that most are looking for which could be something like helping out in an environment with children or in some sort of teaching/instructional role with adults. You could always try some unpaid experience at a school first of all for even a couple weeks just to show you are keen. Good luck

I've got 740 children here and only me. However I don't have the amount of servers that you seem to have. What gets me is that I seem to come up with some good ideas that could more IT forward within the school but never have the time to implement it. I've tried a few sets of toners in it with the same effect and have run the cleaning cycle. Where is the toner inlet?
