Hi, we have just taken delivery of 32 new netbooks. The problem with netbooks is they are so damn small anyone can take them easily. Im designing some kind of booking system that will allow a class to remove laptops and then return them at the end of the day. However I would like the system to also sound an alarm if someone trys to take a laptop off site. Is this possible, ive been looking in to rfid but its expensive Squeeky

Anyone else got problems with e2bn connectivity in luton ? I cant use either the admin cache or cache1 (posted from my phone) Thanks

just to point out that the menu button next to the windows key will bring up a menu for standard application launching. Personally i have jolicloud because it seems like a massive mash up for differnt ubuntu mixes which means compiling anything or getting latest packages eg vlc is impossible. Its a muddle of 8.10 , 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04

@ Pon you cant easily backup the vmdk whilst the VM is live unless you use a proper vmware backup solution. However you can pause the vm via script and then backup the files eg at night
-
Make an MSI !
-
I just have a script that pauses my VM and backs everything up then starts them again. Its a bodge job but it works perfectly every night

all DCS are GCS

Im moving all the FSMO operation master roles to the new server, However I've got to Infrastructure and its telling me i shouldnt transfer it across because the other server im moving the role to is a GC :S Surely this old server that I currently have is already a GC + Infrastrucure Any help appreciated Squeeky

putty wont really help you. If you use WINSCP youll see you entire file structure and can just drag the files to your hard disk. or do vi (or vim) vi /var/log/squid/error.log or vim /var/log/squid/error.log send a screenshot of the bottom of that file over to quit type :q
-
Have you got ssh enabled ? if so download WINSCP (an ssh file manager) and then login that way using your terminal username and password. If not you can enable it on the web interface
-
It does but to find out more i need you to SSH in to the endian box and get /var/logs/squid/error.log and paste it here because the log you shown is access.log
-
Hmm. Thats new. Im pretty sure thats to do with security settings on AD server. Can show a copy of the error log that squid gives ?
-
Well the information doesnt go straight from the XP client to the Windows Server. It goes like this XP Auth ----> Squid (endian) pass access controls -----> windows server.

Right ive done some screenshots. Our domain server is (DT-SERVER) 192.168.1.2 and our domain is DESIGNTECH.SCHOOL (fully qualified). Personally ive had issues with anything above windows 2003 server. Win 7 isnt the issue as we have a test client running as stock and the internet works on that. The error in NTML is between your server and and endian. If its looking then thats because either the credentials arnt ever getting to the server or its rejecting them. For NTML you must use IE. Use a packet sniffer on your server and see if you can see any credentials comming through to the server (tho they will be encrypted) the problem probably lines between different versions of ntlm on your server and what endian expects. check the squid logs aswell eg error.log cos that will tell you if the username was invalid or what. Let me know if you have more issues because ive got other ideas. This was interesting http://developers.de/blogs/damir_dobric/archive/2009/08/16/enabling-of-ntlm-on-windows-7-and-windows-server-2008-r2.aspx http://voteforaserver.co.cc/Endian/NTLM1.png http://voteforaserver.co.cc/Endian/NTLM2.png http://voteforaserver.co.cc/Endian/NTLM3.png

are they macs ? we have endian firewall and it hates the mac NTLM support. Ive not used 2.4 but i know it deffinatly works in 2.3. would you like a screenshot of my domain settings page ? Also you might need to change group policy to allow insecure domain access (or something like that) It took me ages to figure out how to make it work properly

No, just chuck me in the deep end because the previous tech had to leave due to illness

We have just got a new windows 2008 server and are waiting for capita to install sims on it. However the old server is a domain server for the admin building aswell. Whats the best way to migrate all the users and data over to the new server without touching any clients ? Does this also mean they will need the same hostname ? This is what i planned to do Join new server as member server or secondary DC Copy shares across (not 100% sure how to do this) Make the server hold the Global Catalogue Setup DNS Correctly Remove the old server from the network Change the hostname on the server (can this be done ?) Any advice appreciated.

Currently when its a child or staff members birthday our website congratulates them. The birthday appears like this: Congratulations to Joe (CLASS) and for staff members it appears like this: Congratulations to MR Bloggs (Head Teacher) What I need to know is has the person who designed this website previously breached the data protection act ?? or any other type of act. Thanks Squeeky

Thanks, in the end I found it by luck but have installed the tool suggested. Thanks

Also looking for the answer to change the text colour of the menu at the top. Please state which CSS File the header links to Thanks

Thats the easy solution lol, Looking for a slightly more advanced solution. Do I just start with the blindingly obvious and work my way down a list ?

Ive recently started a new job and this school network is a mess. There was a phased change over from old equipment to all cisco equiptment. Every teacher insists that they need to use wifi (I hate it). Also every user in the domain logs in with the same username essentially making the domain completly pointless. There were no backups till i started some, No ups devices and only 15 static workstations in 1 ict room. Im here to make a positive change to the school but its hard to know where to begin with the network infrastructure. Nothing is documented and its a disaster. Whats the best way forward ? I think pretty much every laptop needs a rebuild, the domain server needs sorting out and loads of users need to be created. Any advise appreciated Thanks

ok thats a great start yes those things are exactly what im trying to accomplish. the thing that most interested me that you said is "Apple Remote Desktop to deploy packaged software" isnt that just like windows remote desktop ? sorry for my stupidity Thanks
