heh. Apple goes banana's over trademarks again.... They've fought with Apple Corps for 30 years (company formed by the beatles), and they went to court with Cisco a while back; turns out Cisco trademarked the iphone name.... They settled out of court for mutual usage.

I have a few simple solutions, but half of you won't like em, the other half would love them. Nature of the world. But to put it simply, everyone shares the responsibilities for everything. Noone is to blaim, and noone should be better or worse off for the sake of others. If people stop expecting to get something for nothing, then we'll be better off. And as a society we need to put a stop to pidgeon-holing and hierachies. That guy who earns more per year than the rest of us do in 10-25 years, and got a bonus that is bigger than I could earn in 100 years.... What makes him so much better than the next guy down the management chain? Or even the guy at the bottom of it? If that guy at the top that earn's £1m per year and just got a £5m bonus, did the guy at the bottom who earns £12k per year just get a £60k bonus? If not, why not? That guy at the bottom probably did as many hours of work, went home twice as exhausted, and hell maybe even earned in profits for the company a sizeable chunk of what that guy of the top just got in bonuses. Everyone is equal within a workplace, you just play a different role within it. If I'm 'better' at what I do then by all means pay me a bit more than the next guy; cos you want me to stay here and keep being better than the next guy. But just because your my manager doesn't automatically make you any more or less important, or any better or worse than me.

A country that fights itself over political control will not get the interest of the UN, and if you look at egypt as a start, that was relatively civil all things considered; for a group of people to go about fighting in the streets, it is a local issue for themselves to work out. In Libya, the rebellion has not been met, tbh from either side with civil manners. They have in the scheme of politics gone straight to throwing things at eachother, and certainly Gadaffi doesn't care if a few civilians get hit along the way. Iraq was entered because there was a potential threat of WMD's is the main reason. This has been questioned repeatedly, and regardless of the end outcome, there was some justification in doing it, just the wrong ones were given. The country was not in a good way. Afganistan was a hostile country, directly harbouring terrorists, and so we all went in. Egypt in the grand scheme of rebellions was civil, and required no major intervention from other parties. Gadaffi has shown to be untrustworthy on promises, has been suspected of strong ties to terrorists in western countries, and has shown no great remorse for the civilian casualties being caused, and seems to be making little/no attempt to minimise them. Therefore, we're going in to protect them. To break up the direct hostilities would require us to get in the middle of a political conflict which is bad, and would result in loss of life on all sides.

I was informed this morning that 12 ipad 1's have been bought to arrive early this week. Oh Joy. For the time being it'll be the 12 ipads, and I think a set of the cables to attach them to projectors/IWB's. I've heavily suggested to the HT to look into getting a charging case and some docks for them. I'm very sceptical how if at all they will fit into everyday usage within the school, as the staff wont really know what to do with them initially. So I'll be helping, with any luck in force feeding their integration into things to make sure they get some use. If left to the devises of the staff they will be seen as a hinderance rather than a new tool, and will only end up being used for messing around/treats etc. Hopefully we can change this.

Had my eye on this for some time, and finally got time to start playing with it. So far tested under vista and XP I've got the following working: -Firefox -VLC player I'm in the process of building packages for, and will update on success/failure accordingly: Office 2010 Maths Whizz Testbase And hope to build packages for the following, but have not yet started the process: -Clicker 5/Clicker Paint -RM Maths Installing .net framework is a pain, and it doesn't work with version 4, you have to have v3.5 installed to edit the packages on the build machine. I haven't played with the package editor or registry key editor yet, I suspect I'll need to for testbase and Office though to make them work proplerly.

17 jobs here, most of them have been there for some time awaiting money/time/postponed for various issues. I have on average 2 tickets per week plus about a dozen buttonpresses/cable reattachment style jobs.

Knowledge Library Hopefully that link works, I can no longer access the support section as I don't work in a CC3 school anymore. First link on the page is "What is MrxSmb and what if it reports errors." With any luck that will shed some light on the issue, but I can't see what it says. Otherwise, some ideas for what to try: -Reboot build server/main server that CC3 runs on; might be some service has gone splat. -Rebuild the same machines; was it a temporary glitch? Do they do the same thing a second time round? -When you rebuild the machines, build them into the root of the machine structure, not in the specific location. This means they take all the important CC3 stuff and nothing else that might have interfered; it could be software X is installing before Y and causing incompatibility issues by overwriting something. Once they are on the network and logging in happily, THEN move them to the specific location with all the funky software in, and poke the reboot button till it takes.

try from a different browser/machine. I had an issue where changes I made, when I clicked the save button, it just didn't. So I was making changes and it just kept ignoring them. I swapped to a different browser, and it worked fine.

I always find it amazing that people will do this to eachother over what is in the end a politician, and not the nicest of ones at that. The best answer is let them work it out themselves. The "Rebels" are fighting for their independance and for their rights; it would not help for us to jump and and win their battles, as it would not be their victory.

You should know by now, that school's don't employ technicians for the technical abilities. We are employed for our ability to make things work when others are too stupid/lazy/busy to do it themselves.

After 4 reboots, and a complete uninstall and reinstall of some software, it looks like it was something to do with a corruption of the AV suite, or the old AV administration kit that I decommissioned and migrated to another server last year, but didn't uninstall. ALso turns out it had nuked the servers ability to install windows updates, so it took over 1 hour to shut the server down on one of the reboots for updates! But at least for now the server is running smoother than it ever has, and time will tell if it's solved once and for all.

The AV is misbehaving atm, I had to turn it off as it wasn't running the updater in a timely manner, and in fact hasn't updated in a couple months and manual wasn't working. Turning the AV off didn't affect performance at all, so no On-access scans running or anything like that. Due to this and some other updates, I'm rebooting the server in about half an hour; I should have just enough time to fire up in safemode before I need to get it up and running again. The AV system isn't working as intended and stopped pushing out updates it seems a couple months ago. I will be reinstalling it very shortly, hence half the reason for the reboot. But the server wasn't working properly before the AV seems to have misbehaved.

One of my server 2003 boxes is having a rough old time. Logging in, or access remote shares from other computers responds absolutely fine, right clicking on menus/desktop responds fine. But as soon as you run anything, be it opening up part of control panel, a program, an explorer window, it just grinds to a halt, and takes minutes to open whatever it is. Opening up task manager, the only 2 processes using CPU are Spoolsv.exe (25%) and Taskmgr.exe (25%) Hard drives are nowhere near full, Memory is on average about 1.5GB of 4GB in use, Processor is an Intel Xeon x3220 Quad Core 2.39 GHz. Hard drives are a mirrored 2 drive Raid array with 2 partitions, and a Terrastation NAS, 1.2TB Raid 5 connected via an iSCSI connection. Server OS is Windows Server 2003 Standard edition Service Pack 2 Server is running DNS, as a print server, and a html based website is hosted on it's main C drive (don't ask....), and IIS. Also has some Winsuite services running on it, as I still have a couple of machines left running WinSuite: they are due to come out in the very near future. Antivirus suite is Kaspersky Server edition It's been suggested by a friend i've got a memory leak somewhere, but the few guides i've seen on how to find that require me to turn off then on every program that runs in services, startup etc. That could take rather a long time with each click taking up to 10 minutes on a bad day. Don't know if there's any windows updates required, the Auto updater is turned off as the server is taking so long to respond it times out on attempting to run updates. Any suggestions, idea's? I'm running out of them.

Sorry for the necro, but I'm having this trouble too, and having it for 32 and 64 bit drivers; it spends an age looking on the internet for the drivers, then doens't find them and refuses to install them... This is especially a problem when manufacturers don't offer drivers for them on the website, stating "Windows 7 automatically gets it for you." Anyone got any ideas for this?

There is a difference in Atheism and not following a religion. In fact Atheism in itself can be a religion; a belief in there being NO god. Agnostic is the description for someone who does not necessarily follow a religion, but acknowledges that there is an unknown, which could be explained by a deity, or otherwise. The same goes for Muslims, Jewish and others. My views on religion are complex at best, but when was religion as a topic of conversation ever simple! The church of the Flying spaghetti Monster, the Jedi and most others are just as valid beliefs as any other, though some more eccentric than others. To put anything but the truth on it is unfair to those who have those beliefs. I will either abstain or put christian, as that is what represents me best; I do not believe in collecting information for the sake of it, and my views on organised religions are my own; but I am nevertheless christian, in fact raised, confirmed and married as a Catholic.

I'd be interested in seeing the same thing if possible; we have a weekly PDF newsletter, and I want to make it as easy as possible for the admin staff to be able to do it, rather than the current system where I have to edit the html of website to include a new link, upload the new document etc etc.

The the person who neg repped for giving an opinion on (yet another) apple product with few upgrades, please go back to the cave you crawled out of. Why do some people hate Apple? Because they make a point of being different to everyone else, they know their doing it, they choose to do it, and they make a point in telling everyone they are different, and that it's cool to be different. You don't get a HTC fanboi, or a Samsung addict (there probably are some but heyho, they live in basements and feed on wikipedia entries and discussion forums about tech).... Because they release a multitude of products that suit any/every need, any/every price range. If you like the apple interface, you have to buy an iphone 4/ipad(2)/imac/itouch, or buy a 1-4 year old tech equivalent, usually second hand, and it'll still cost you a small fortune. If I like the interface or features from some other manufacturer, I can choose from one of multiple models, designs, styles, features, ranging from £50-500 to suit whichever I want. The one thing from a tech point of view apple had going for them is that the apps were designed for apple only OS's. It means if you DL an app for apple, you know it's going to work. I question wheither this is still true completely, since everyone and their pet turtle can develop an app now, but i gather there are still testing requirements before they go public to reduce these issues. I went from an Iphone 3G to a Samsung Galaxy S; I don't regret that at all. I have a fraction of the trouble I used to get with the iphone, I'm not tied to using an awful Itunes software, and I can do so much more with it. Could I do those things with an Iphone4? Yes, but it would have cost me a couple hundred to buy the phone, and nearly £10-15 a month more to get what i've got now. The tablet market will be one to watch for the next couple of years, and other manufacturers have to stop trailing apple in releasing 'innovative' product lines. The catch 22 is, that apple release a product and others then fight to compete against it to get a market share; but apple wont release a product line in a market that's already been done by someone else, unless it's been X years when they can 'reinvent' it bigger and better.
