OK the issue is resolved now, I got a response from Capita. For the benefit of anyone else experiencing the issue here is the exact details: "You can only provision agents who belong to Education Provider or Workplace Provider agency types. If none of your agents belong to the above agency types they will not appear in the route of Agents to be provisioned."

Thanks for that Pete, got it sorted now, was a simple permissions issue. Custom group had been created which I needed to be added to. I have a slightly different issue now. I have successfully provsioned and consolidated a new staff member but i now need to do the same for an "agent" and cant seem to find his account when i choose provision-agent-add agent or provision-agent-reprovision . do you know if the process is any different for this? once again thanks very much, SLG is a whole new world to me!

Good Afternoon All! Just started as ICT Network Manager at a new school and have inherited an SLG setup and trying to get my head round it (as I have no experience of SLG). I have got AD Provisioning working etc and have provisioned myself as a user. I have then logged into the SLG with this user and want to consolidate it with my actual/everyday domain account. However all of of the web parts are coming up with "You are not Licensed to view this information - Access to Information displayed in this web part requires a license". Not sure if I have missed an obvious step with this or if it is a bug, can anyone clarify this? Any help hugely appreciated

JamesB has hit the nail on the head here. I personally feel im jack of all the IT Support/ Networking trades but i specialise in Network Hardware (ie switches routers etc) and Remote Access (RDP, TS, VPN etc) and it has served me very very well.

tbh if he only wanted email and browsing then id say a tablet is the way to go (and i would say it has to be the HTC or the ipad!) but i just cant recomend them for word processing, it really does sound like he would be better with a good quality laptop. We have given SMT some ASUS ones (K50 i think...) and they are great, they do not overheat (in fact they dont heat up at all, not even the battery!) and the battery life on them is fantastic! not to mention that by going down the ipad route they wouldnt be able to remote into school (if thats something you have or would like)!

that sounds like it could be an option, we had a "uni" account for athens which we all had linked to our personal accounts so i could see this working in a similar way. Ill keep my eyes open for news from amazon. Cheers mate.

Learning the Basics of TCP/IP networks would be step one (i would mess around with your network at home for a start) and then after that, move onto using Windows Servers and learning about "Domain" Networks and how they operate. After that you should have enough of a base to start looking for your first role and then just keep learning on the job hope that helps mate.

I am sure we will keep the best of what we have for the LRC but a lot of our books are just outdated and kind of useless at this point. Perhaps ebook readers could be an option if we can figure out a logical way of keeping them charged and lending them out etc. I will mention it to my line manager.

Morning all, We are currently looking at updating our library (and it really does need it...) and have been asked whether we should move in the direction of having an LRC rather than a library and using the internet more rather than purchasing lots of books. When I was at university we used the online library Archive "Athens" for all of our research and I am just wondering if anyone knows of a similar resource which could be used at secondary and 6th form level? does anyone use something similar to this or know of anything I can take a look at? bromcom webfolder has a sims direct version which works on mobiles. all our teachers have been given an ipod touch and do their registers via the wireless!

i dont think anyone NEEDS it but having moved our school to Software assurance a couple of years ago i can safely say that it makes keeping track of licensing very very easy and the benefits are very useful (getting new software earlier than it can be bought eg we had exchange 2010 as soon as we could!)

we bought 80 lenovo a70z all in ones last year and they have been fantastic, we have wall mounted them in a lot of places and they have formed our sixth form study suite, our language lab and our staff work room and we are very happy with them. We tend to get good prices on lenovo gear from insight too so it might be worth giving the ma shout!

sorry if i am way off here but shouldnt you point the dns to wpad.theockendonacademy.com/wpad.dat rather than www? then if you check "automatically detect settings" in the browser it should work!

cant recommend a company to outsource to but I can tell you that we measure the distance needed and get pre cut and terminated fibre runs from comms express and then run it ourselves and it was worked out fantastic! (and really cheap) --> Server Rack, Data Racks, RJ45, Network Supplies

ive combined it with Cobian (free backup software) which basically makes timestamped copies of the backups. works great, ive got it backing up all network drives, AD and Exchange

got it in and up and running today, so far so good!! got a guest SSID running on a seperate VLAN which goes straight out to the web (thus avoiding our LAN which makes me happy!), have installed 6 APs as a trial and they were all adopted easily with no hickups and the Controller immediately picked up that there was a new firmware so i installed it right away I am very very happy so far, if things carry on like this we will cover the whole school with this thing. If it stays up and running and sturdy then I can see Ubiquiti really taking over, three Access Points for 180 quid and a free Controller is a rediculous bargain! I think it is worth a punt for anyone looking into managed wireless, buy 6 APs just as a trial and even if it fails you are only 360 quid down (when you consider the price of other wifi solutions this is a drop in the ocean!). We did have one hickup though --> The access points are american standard so they need 24volt POE rather than UK 16v. We had bought a POE switch for it in advance (doh!). did you happen to find a 24v POE which can purchased in the UK?

morning all Had HAP up and running for a few months now and it is running great (so first of all a massive thank you, this is a very good project!!). Now onto Business, I am getting an error when trying to download files from any of our network drives through HAP but only when using safari (my macbook pro --> Snow Leopard). The Error states "The Operation Couldn't be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 303.)". It is definitely a safari only problem though as i can download files fine on my macbook using firefox! I know i am not using the most recent release of HAP but have just done a little digging and couldn't find my version number, can someone point me to where I can find it? Apologies if this has already been answered, I did do a search but couldn't find anything. Any Help Hugely Appreciated.

Wow that really does look good. We have just ordered 6 APs to try them out too, how are you getting on with them? They seem almost too good to be true! one question, do they have a function whereby they reboot themselves when they cant connect to the controller/the network or do they have a self healing function (eg the two closest APs to a broken AP take over its workload?) thanks for the headsup, i really hope these are as good as they sound as they seem to be an absolute bargain!

We have just left our LA and have gone with a 100MB line from GlobalAXS. we got it at a fantastic price. only 8500 per year with ADSL failover (feel free to correct me if i am not allowed to state actual figures on the forum). We have combined that with two Smoothwall UTM1000s (for redundancy/failover) and we are very very hapopy with the results. Give globalAXS a call and haggle over the price with them, i am sure you will get an unbeatable deal! EDIT - forgot to mention, GlobalAXS also gave us 2U rackspace for an offsite backup server for free
