As soon as i mentioned i was offering an iphone on orange, everyone wanted it colleagues/twitter members/edugeek/brothers!!! My colleague is now having it for a small fee, sorry folks. If i hear of any others open to orange, will let you know straight away!

Currently there is no legal time frame on how long emails should be retained for, here in the UK. However, I would say it is helpful to your school and college for you to keep hold of them and have a full archive in place -You never know when someone might put a FOI request in to you, this could be a member of the public, student, a company or the media. - In which case your educational establishment will have 20days to respond with the information requested. Email archives are also very useful for HR investigations -If you are ever taken to court for any reason over a disupute, emails can be used in court as evidance providing they are fully encrypted -See Waterford Technologies email archive Email Archiving for Education

we use ericom here ourselves, they are a good bunch always willing to help...

jdibsdale gives a good overview of ericom. We have ericom here ourselves -it gives you a complete thin client solution, some people call it poor mans citrix. I would say very worth having a look at, taking into consideration security aspects gives you complete control over access rights - integrates with directory svcs, improved info confidentiality -no data copied onto clients, reduces support overhead -with remote desktop support an improved employee and accessability on demand access and very good at what it does, good for your money and very popular with schools i am sure plenty more schools out there are using ericom i think they have a 300,000 seat rollout an they are based in UK

we have lightspeed here at our place. I have never heard of anything like it before very comprehensive it covers Enterprise Reporting, Web Content Filter, Anti-Spam, Email Journal, Firewall, Bandwidth Management, Policy Management, Anti-Virus & Spyware Zero Hour Threat Protection, Device Control The senior managers at our place (mainly) love it and so do our techies for the functionality-warning -it is expensive -But I would say great for schools and colleges as well because of the security for the kids and having little brothers in school i want them to be safe

After the many intense sessions with Andrew Clake at Waterford Tech on the wide range of modules -I would say my fave one in particular which stood out to me was the storage manager module. Why I hear you say? Simply because it connects to your exchange email server and shrinks storage by around 70% It replaces the attachment with links ("stubs") to the attachments captured in the MailMeter repository where they are compressed, single instanced, and stored separately from the mail server. most importantly it is seamless to users - no client software is installed on the user's PC. When they click on the attachment name, it just loads from MailMeter instead of the email server. This is something would be worth posting as I can see the benefit for colleges as well as schools, with them having to spend time and headaches with these backups then having to spend money on buying disks, this intelligent software is worth seeing, and was even more amazed at the prices for education, see what you think yourself Email Storage Management for Exchange
