I use an iPhone and have been for over 18months now. I often connect through wireless at home and work. Since I have had my iPhone i have noticed a change in the way i work, much more productively and hittng my goals set by my managers. I have been able to work more productively accessing my applications on the move I wouldn't want it any other way. The company i work for encourage it's employees to use latest technologies to help with our work, not sure why some people are so anti-innovative technology. It is good to see some of the schools are adopting these kinds of technologies to prepare them for when leaving school. This is the digital revolution whether we like it or not..

good idea to tie it into the Windows monopoly then?

Yep Healthcare need reliable robust wireless hence why they go for Extricom, it works! We think Extricom are a forward thinking company and this is great for Schools that want to be innovative and are planning ahead 12 months ready for the new and exciting things coming out for education/learning it is worth the investment paying for something that works and it works well

I agree with EduTech that it is not always the cheapest is best -far from it. I am a fan of Extricom it just plugs into Cisco, standard n compliant, robust connectivity. The company i work for are an IT reseller and in our experiences of many of the wireless companies mentioned Extricom gives us no complaints it just works the boss is happy which is the main thing and we have wireless that works

Office Communication Server is basically Telephone Exchange integration (calling your Exchange Server to check on emails, diary, tasks and all your other Outlook Functionality) Voice, file transfer, instant messaging, video communication, software to increase and streamline communications. I would like to get involved in this competition and base my article around Parental Access and the technologies out there which are designed to help build on pupil attendance/behavour, progress, attainment, special needs -Obviously I would create it as vendor neutral as possible :-)

Hi Mandy, I would agree with @jamesb and say parental access technologies. One to look at is Microsoft Sharepoint -if you haven't already This is very high on schools agenda right now perhaps it might have something to do with the Governments 2010 parental access legislation which comes into effect next September This might be why it is so popular right now, i would get in touch with your local Microsoft Gold Partner and ask them how are they helping schools to achieve these 2010 deadlines. not many schools I know of have a non-teaching ICT Director but lots of colleges do. Answering the job titles question- Strategic ICT co-ordinator, E Learning Co-ordinator, Strategic E Learning Development Manager some ideas there

If I wasn't working in IT then I would like to be managing my own foster care agency and giving something back to the kids, providing them with a 2nd chance of "normal" lifestyle

Two people I would like to commend for idol inspiration talent is -Fellow Edu Geek idol member is Alex Pearce for the help and support he has given me and plenty of others on the Microsoft and product side and his work ethic; passion for technology and bringing technology for students to learn and teachers to teach. He also introduced me to EduGeek, Twitter and the world of blogging! -Another inspirational idol is my 5th line Manager David Ricketts he is an idol for his inspiration and leadership capabilities and beats the 4 pre managers hands down. He brings out the best in people with his positive viewpoint and always looking out for the company a good representative and role model. He is key to driving projects forward and motiviating people I have a lot of respect to him for that. As well as Steve Jobs obviously as mentioned previously -and not for his personal life either!!

ok how about any well known idols? something that would make interesting reading any recommendations...

hello EduGeekers I would like to start a discussion on who your technology idols are and a few reasons why? I am curious to learn more about who the members respect and look up to in the IT industry. It could even be an idol who is a fellow Edu Geek member, or someone famous in the media many of us will know........

i have now read the artical and as for the point about Apple has little regard for the saying "the customer is always right" Apple says the customer does not know what he or she wants..until.......it is in front of them and they can see it, touch it, feel it -play with it and if it's (Apple) "love it"! I am quite happy to pay more for Apple products, i like the level of detail they put into design, even the small details that are hidden away effort is made. The fact is Apple now caters for all, with the ease of use and simplicity Apple have made their name in the IT industry and even the MUSIC industry. I am addicted to itunes and my ipod/phone to the point where the click on/off bottom is so smooth and 3 presses to get to your tune. I will quite happily pay the right price for the right quality product. I look forward to hearing more about new Apple releases and if that is a tablet then i have high expectation from them they have a reputation to keep up now!

I haven't read the article but a few things I've learnt about Apple are 1- They don't like to follow the crowd so doubt they will jump on netbook band wagon. 2- Apple developers have to keep work very tightly under wraps and away from fellow colleagues, they even have locks which stop certain employees accessing technical development rooms. 3 - They will announce and shock and boy will it be an announcement I reckon and just before christmas...
