  6. Hi all we allow our children access to webmail via exchange server 2003 all be it fairly restricted, they can only accept emails from staff , so they can only send to staff, problem is they are sending to my allstaff@... address and winding the staff up, now given that i only just gave them email access back i really don't want to take it away again.(not when we nearly have a useful system now in place) My question how can i stop my students sending to allstaaf@ distrubution group but still allow them to send to individual staff of their choosing?
  7. Hi chrish the content is there it just won't let you navigate properly. when you say security settings on the local machine are you saying that i need to goto the settings manager online on each machine?(as i suspected) or is there another way? Incidentally the software is served centrally all be it not through IIS, the software is simply installed on the application server and shared out.I think i will try it your way and see what happens.
  8. Hi all we have been using hodder stuff for ages now but when we recently updated our flash players we can't navigate around them, hodder say it is a flash problem and point me toward the flash settings manager(online) which is a real pain and very confusing for teachers/students to do each time they want to launch some flash enabled educational software, does anyone have any experiences they can share. (incendentally the students still manage to get accesst to all the games created online in flash, but i guess they were made in later versions)
  9. i don't want to run it as a logon script (i already have a fat client one) but i have it sorted now i have to call it from a script in c:\windows\system32, thanks for all your help i could not have achieved this without your help mate.
  10. thanks ric managed to get it working, all be it running it locally, i had put it in my c:\WINDOWS\Application Compatibility Scripts\Logon folder named printers.vbs but this doesn't work which is odd because all my drive mappings work form here?
  11. nice one ric this is what i need, but i'm having problems modifying it i want the script to look at clientnames called english* and map a single network printer to it in TS, what bits do i need to get rid of ? cheers for your time this far mate.
  12. nice one mate which one (give us a clue)
  13. Hi, all does anyone have any any vbs scripts that will map network printers from the application compabilty scripts folder on terminal services? I want to map some printers but already use a login script in AD for my fat clients and don't really want to add to it. Any help as always hugely appreciated. regards uraken.
  14. hi all i am getting a few problems on some of my boxes that still have office 2000 on them (most have 2003 now) when a user opens word they are getting lotts of toolbars appear (in particular the formatting toolbar)so much so thatthey can't see any of the actual document, i figure its a macro virus of sorts any one else got any clues to solving this,?i have deleted profiles and that seems to solve it but i guess unless i solve it its gonna keep reppearing. I have done a search around the net and have turned up a blank.
  15. It appears that i needed to put the school fqdn in the dns suffix in the advanced tcip settings on the network card. I am not sure that they were there prior and it seemed to be working fine for the last three years or more but anyway that solved the problem.
  16. Morning all, i'm having fun and games with symantec web security and i can't work out why, it just seems to take an age to display the login page, i have restarted server, services and had a look at the performance of the server and all seem ok, if i bypass the web security as admin it the net seems ok so its not a connection issue, any ideas??
  17. Hi djm968 thats the way i have got around this problem although staff were initially reluctant to get another mapped drive so i tried to disguise it through a shortcut on an already mapped drive thanks for all the input on this.
  18. tried that eean no joy not to worry i think i'll stick with wired for now.
  19. cheers mate managed to get an ok deal
  20. I agree with ric this is almost certainly profile related and whilst you can't simulate logging on hundreds of time you can use a test user at peak times. Try a test student and staff user with no profile path specified and see if it speeds up. if it works use GPO to limit size of roaming profiles. Incidentally what size is your average student profiles?
  21. do you have a decent supplier ? thats almost exactly as i want it.
  22. pete, i'm also about to start testing pda for PARS what other apps were you thinking of using? and was the ipaq the best for pars?
  23. 1.the unc path works well but opens up the network (they can browse up) 2.the users can see the shortcut but when they click on it they get access denied likewise if they type the drive letter in the filename box (if they type \\servername\sgharename in the filename box this works but opens up the network again).
  24. 2000 and 2003 mate
  25. Impero is brilliant for this and dirt cheap as well and gives you loads of other features such as locking websites, apps etc
