  1. Because Capita have told us to use the 32 bit version. They say they're not supporting 64 bit SQL until support for SQL 2008 is released later this year.
  2. Capita told us we have to use 32 bit SQL 2005. simsinst simply errors out - 'wrong version, 64 bit version needed' or words to that effect, as does SQL.
  3. The apps I'm talking about are SQL 2005 32 bit and SIMS. Neither will load at all. Where would I find the x64 installer?
  4. I have an issue with installing 32 bit apps onto a new 2008 standard + SP2 server. Basically no 32 bit app will load, I sinply get the error message about needing a 64 bit version. Now, WOW64 is supposed to be installed and activated as standard in a Server 2008 install, isn't it? I can find no references to installing it other than onto Server Core versions. It's a brand new machine and I installed Server 2008 Standard + SP2 onto it on Friday. Standard installation, not server core. So, I'm stuck. How can I get a 32 bit app to install? Has anyone else come across this issue? Has anyone resolved it?
  5. I'm always happy to consider open source software - especially under the current budget constraints! How easy is Kinovea to use though? This is to be used by sport teachers don't forget! Do your staff get on with it OK?
  6. Really useful leads. Many thanks everyone!
  7. Thank you very much. A useful recommendation and the estimated pricing is handy. Cheers!
  8. What sort of money are we talking about?
  9. Our sports dept has put in a request for a sports / dance analysis software package. I know nothing about these apps, does anyone here have any experience and recommendations? If you want to know what type of software and what it needs to do then this is one package that I found that seems to do the right things: Video Analysis Software - Dartfish Any info would be useful. Thanks
  10. Problem is we must roll out 200 new PCs over the summer break, W7 is not released Until October. Vista is a total no-no and if we roll out XP then we have upgrade issues later on.
  11. Not so!!! We have permission in writing that we can install RC1 if we so wish but I can't find out if we can then upgrade from RC1 to full release.
  12. As the title says - can a W7 RC1 PC be directly upgraded to the full release version or will it entail a full reinstall? Does anyone know? I need an answer on this a.s.a.p. as it affects a purchasing decision for 200 PCs that we need to place today! Thanks.
  13. If I use nslookup -d mydomain the last line says 'cannot find mydomain' If I use nslookup -d mydomain.local then all appears OK
  14. We don't allow PCs to go into standby, all power saving settings are turned off.
  15. Sorry for the vague thread title but this is a very strange problem. SBS 2003 network. Everything is fine except that I suddenly can't remote into some of the clients, some I can but some I can't. This occurs whether I use TS from the server or Dameware Mini NT from my workstation. There's no other obvious problem on any of the affected client machines, they can log on, see the network, browse the net, connect to Exchange, etc. I can see all the clients using net view, can ping them by name or IP, etc. If I go to CP > System > Remote on any of the affected machines then it appears that Remote Access is configured; if I attempt to add RA users I can find the AD, I can find the user in the directory but when I OK the dialogue box I get an error along the lines of "the user or object cannot be added because the domain cannot be contacted or does not exist". Windows Firewall is correctly configured to allow Remote Desktop. As I said, not all client machines are affected and some I can remote into perfectly OK. A bit stumped at the moment, does anyone have any ideas?
  16. For some days now I've been working on a staff member's personal PC, doing bits inbetween 'proper' work as and when. XP was unstable so this morning I ran a repair install and it's now stuck in a loop. The installation gets as far as "Installing Devices", then the screen flickers a couple of times followed by the PC rebooting. On reboot the installation starts again at the point it failed, "Installing Devices", runs this for a couple of minutes and then reboots again. The cycle repeats endlessly. It's obviously some sort of hardware problem but I'm looking for ideas how I can track down the exact cause. Any thoughts?
  17. Good food for thought there guys, thanks. Still pondering.....
  18. Understand all the comments and we're aware of the implications. Monitoring is in the AUP and everyone signs up to it as part of their contract. There's a specific reason we need to do this right now, it's certainly not frivolous. Thanks for the comments. Pete
  19. Does anyone have any experience with, or can recommend keylogging & snapshotting software? I need to secretly monitor everything that is typed on a Win XP PC and preferably have it automatically emailed to me at regular intervals. Ideally I would also like regular snapshots taken of the desktop and emailed also. It needs to be not picked up by any of the regular AV packages. Is there anything? Freeware? Thanks for your help.
  20. Still undecided. I may have to go for the N97 for now and see how the marketplace for Android phones develops over the next year or so.
  21. A strange and silly situation it was! The affected machines had all had remote access permissions removed. Why and how I don't know. GP seems OK and if I manually re-allow RA then all is fine
  22. All clients are DHCP, servers and printers are assigned statics.
  23. Unfortunately no. I reset the users password earlier today, just in case.
  24. I can connect to the SIMS server and the NAS box by TS and RDC and I can also map a drive from the SBS box to a folder on the "invisible" workstation. All that I can't do is to connect to the workstation by TS, RDC or RWW.
  25. I can ping the workstations by name and by IP, they show up on net view but I can't RDC to them either by name or IP.
