The problem with whiteboard is that the teachers are becoming very dependant on them and when the bulb blows or the PC has crashed they wet themselves with panic because suddenly thay can't teach.. plus getting calles everyday to calibrate the boards... Lost Projector Controls.. Yea.. whats it with these damn Orange Projectors.. no on off switch so when the remote goes AWOL everybodys stuffed... and we have 55 boards onsite.. Is there a cheap place to get Sanyo remotes?

Hi Ofsted tomorrow LMAO..... I have been asked to put a powerpoint presentation o some PC's as a screensaver.. I saved the ppt as as jpg's and used the windows screensaver and logged out.... But the sceeensaver seems to only work when someone is logged in... what the bosses wan is when the PCboots up the screensaver/jpg's/flash is working.. without nyone logging on any ideas

Better for what purpose? We use both. I consider the iMac better for classroom use, and the Mac Mini better for sitting in the corner quietly doing a job and for providing a display for large screens. And - I don't know if you intended this as a hypothetical discussion, but I don't think you can get an iMac and a Mac Mini that are the same base spec. The iMac is built on a different, faster, processor, and as tight as space is inside one, is far more expandable than a Mini. Sorry I should have given more information... It is for students in the Music Department to run Logic on... so they have to have a screen and keyboard

I was told that an IMAC is the all in one mac as the PC is behind the screen and that the IMAC is cheaper than the MAC Mini

Yes what you say is all very well and good..... but the bottom line is that thousands and thousands of ICT Managers and Technicians are going to lose thier jobs unless something is done soon. How about telling us how to be more proactive Do we have a contact in BECTA ?

I am also thinking that would the BETT show exist in 5 years times as if the majority of the schools in the country are taken over by a few ICT companies and all the ICT is run by them .. what need would there be for BETT... or BETT as big as it is ie:- as RM would have thier own managed services and would not buy anythig apart their own products

Not strictly true. Its not up to the county to decide on the best bid. The county is allowed to bid itself and keep the service inhouse - and retain the money. AFIK Its up to UK partnerships PLC to decide - a commercial company with commercial interests - I'm sceptical as to whether they'll award any contracts to inhouse ICT services though. i am sorry this is not true now.. It was true in the previous wave, if you made a Vision Statement and a GOOD business Case then you could keep in house ... but the loophole has been closed if you read the BSF documentation .. it states that the ICT has to be service managed and I know of PFS areas that have been taken over and ALL these schools are now run by ***** and the ICT staff retrenched or assimilated into ***** to become low paid drones.. It all has to do with economies of scale... the more schools taken on the cheaper the school becomes to run... IE:- 1 drone can Remote into all schools servers where as it is now 1 ICT Manager to 1 School The BORG are coming and if you are not an uber Consultant ICT manager you are in for a tough ride

My dear Russ Dev... not all of us are uber network mangers with the scope and skill to assist in the curriculum development of the school and planning and developing the strategy of the ICT rollout for the future.. A lot of use are very good ICT managers who do a brilliant job of keeping the Network running, Backed up and up to date with the latest Hardware and software.. Some of us leave the developing the ICT role in the school up to the ICT coordinator (a senior teacher) who understands the curriculum needs of the school and passes this onto the Network Manager to implement.. So basically all there very good ICT managers are going to lose their jobs unless they take on a more desk/academic based role... and if you think that's something to wink at then......
