Yeah so we found this issue was a multiple fold issue 1- Pearson documentation on whitelisting endpoints were incomplete 2- it uses a special port (want to say 8443 but can’t 100% be sure) on the internet that cross references a password against its database. If it cant communicate on that port it will fail password validation check when forced to change. 3 - the mfa when setup was the course of the infinite loop our users found themselves in. That and poor handover documentation to the user left everyone frustrated that led to the issue 4- their support are difficult and under prepared for the massive balls up they had set in motion. 5- they need to be able to hand over the ability to revoke the mfa or temp bypass to an onsite admin. At the moment the admin can do anything to help the situation To summarise Make sure your proxy has the ability to allow all end points and ports now believed to be accurate before rolling out the changes to the school. Maybe document something a lot simpler for the staff to follow. Do it on one or two people first before going out to gen pop

If you do decide to pursue this path I wish you the best of luck. Working in ict within the education sector has taught me schools don’t like change. That doesn’t mean they won’t but already that wave is already in motion and you may find your slightly behinds the wave once you have your product developed and tested. I think many would have moved a lot sooner away from sims if they were open to the idea of change. Don’t want to sound the defeatist especially as you currently are behind the wave, but I Honestly I would say your hardest part would be convincing schools and trusts to go with your product. Schools are like sheep they all follow each other but you need a small group of leader schools on your side for when the next wave comes. Once you have a foot in the door and your product becomes the talk within all schools then your solution will take off. I love netsupport and definitely worth the cost in terms of support and its features. I’m in the process of moving our customers over to classroom.cloud and the support I am receiving from them is great One thing to watch with NetSupport on prem versions, windows 10 and 11 av was quarantining a core file to the stable functioning of student and tutor installs. Think it was client32 service dependents so you may want to exclude this file/ service from being scanned. There’s is a reg fix which netsupport support kindly assisted with

To be fair I concur with everything said here. My other school I support has Cunningham’s face recognition and I have no problems with it. I think cashless vendors have really upped their game and my opinion is Civica haven’t invested in the development of their solution as much as others and because of that they are dying in their solution

Can you use your own stuff. Vericool for obvious reasons probably don’t support this (or they didn’t last time I wanted to setup an outside event using my tablets) It is cloud based. I used both their on prem and cloud solution and have no regrets. Over using your own hardware I think just ask them you may be able to come to some arrangement but I imagine this may impact the level of support they may offer.

I have a site recently inherited a secondary and redstor is installed on all server backing up the guest VMfiles (clustered hyper v which would confirm what you read). Personally I don’t like the setup as it unmanageable. It is not protecting bare metal and each server has a pool of storage which seems wasteful rather than have a pool of storage for the whole network. I am looking to move them away for my preferred solution veeam

Is this a primary or secondary, So whilst not an official inventory system of your chromebooks, whilst they are enrolled and managed in google then admin will hold all the serials and asset tags for you. I would aim to making google admin and the chrome books managed. If you have on prem ad installing Gcds so that you are not doubling up your work with user creation in both systems. I think there is a beta domain integration also but never really tested it. Longer term I may be looking at intune the windows devices and migrating all shared data in to share point.

Fellow kuga drivers. I have a 17 plate and it has three washer jets on the front windscreen. For some reason these keep blocking or failing. Anyone experienced this and know if there is a cheaper way of fixing them with out replacing them each time Other than that I have no problems with it. I love it

Good afternoon Smoothwall for your info to look at Today we have been made aware of a website classroomcommunity.com which seemingly is browser within a browser and you can bypass all policies getting to any sites. Not only can student get on any website but the site support masking and camouflage its presence to make the tab look like it google classroom for example. Smoothwall has this site uncategorised which allows the website through. To other tech check your student test accounts for this site and block it For those on other filtering systems maybe worth checking also as it could be a really new website Thanks

I like the quota idea as my solution lacks she doesn’t actually know she straying in to uncharted territory. So giving a soft block or quota will inform her of the boundaries she is about to cross. The decision then is in her court

I have a mix across all the school I support and I Agree Civica support is woeful. Vericool and Cunningham are in my other schools and hear very little about them having issues. Dealt with Vericool over minor issues more and support has always been prompt.

I second this with smoothwall cloud filter. Classroom cloud is constantly monitoring for safeguarding purposes but the console is only accessible from our internal ip during normal school hours

What’s the type of school and what’s their print solution Surely the school must have printing requirements. Even for a primary a single mfd is cheaper than half a dozen or so desktop printers. I would look in to pitching a printing managed solution one or two devices for resilience. Remove all your desktop printers and scanners

I’ve come across a question like this in the past and I have had the dsl get headteacher written permission. So how I have done it in one of my schools is the dsl is unfiltered however audited. Her web logs are published to trustees. Whether they read them is their decision. She knows and has agreed to on the ground to safeguard her. It not as if they have access to the dark web or anything but they are aloud to areas that normally found in the core block. With certain exceptions example things that would harm the network malware sites etc With the auditing I feel more at ease as I have a checker checking the checker. My feelings for this were split but having a headteacher written permission helps. At the end of the day the dsl has to be trusted like we are to not abuse the power we have and remain professional. I’m not saying my way is the right way as there is no written guidance I know of from professional bodies on the requirements of a dsl and how we should facilitate their job but I am open to other suggestions and ideas if anyone else is willing to share

We have a couple x7 and rest are x3s and we are finding when we update a phone extension name it doesnt not reflect the change on the x3s phones. I have tried reprovisioning the phone and confirmed the xml from the provisioning server is correct. the x7 seems to have updated. if i log on the phone web interface i can see its address book is out of date the only way i found to updating the address book is by factory reseting the phone but this method is not viable with 100 odd phones Anyone got any ideas

Generally YouTube is unblocked across secondaries schools with smoothwall as it gives us the flexibility to content modify YouTube. Set to strict, safe search, comment removal etc. I have one school who refuses to allow students on YouTube even with all the mods smoothwall offers Primaries. Only teachers. it’s easier to block the whole internet for kids and just have a custom whitelist of sites they can go on. Some schools only use like 50 websites the kids use.

I just used google translate with our Ukrainian students
