  1. UPDATE FROM SHOW MY HOMEWORK- SATCHEL Greg, Operations Manager happy for me to share the conversation that i have just had regarding their position and the changing of advise they are giving to schools. It seems that the majority of the online services industry for public authorities is going for public interest on this one and so it makes sense to be in the majority for the time being until proper advise and clarity is provided from the forthcoming Bill or the ICO itself. This knee-jerk reaction to my comments regarding their previous position of cancelling contracts and slating companies that are trying to follow guidelines on various sources of advice is unhelpful to the extreme. We are all going through this and i think it is fair to say that none of us has the definitive answer. The fact that representatives cannot speak for their product on these forums makes it all the harder to remove the distaste that visitors past these fora may experience. Thanks for all the helpful advice and the great discussion however.
  2. Lawful basis interactive tool- not sure how long this has been around but i have only just come accross it today... May help a few for less ambiguous discussions! AVAILABLE HERE
  3. Thanks @GrumbleDook. I also have a case with the ICO directly about this and will report their answer as it is further reaching than for just this i guess. . I'm guessing that you are getting the info for GDPRis also. Also, with larger companies @markberry, do you think they will all sign thousands of contracts coming from all of these schools (and other organisations)? I have all of mine printing now but am not very hopefull of being returned.... And wondering about getting a signed (data Sharing contract?) copy back from the DfE ;-)
  4. I mean by 'we could and did do this another way' that we could manage homework (and previously did) by the traditional use of planners. Sorry if this was confusing.
  5. Sorry, no idea what you mean in that first sentence. I also wasn't offering the option to delete all grades from homework; i can imagine all sorts and do daily in this role. I was simply discussing the idea that it would be right for students and parents to have their data removed from the online homework system. Parents sign themselves up.
  6. Yes, i agree, there is a lot of conflicting advice and i have spoken with different trained DPO's with different ideas also! I understand your view and was tempted to use this LB for processing for all these school services however, the advice from the Key for School leaders based on their own legal advice is also: Is there another way to fulfil the task? For example, could we still do it: Without processing the data at all? By processing less data? By collecting the data in a different, less intrusive way? If you could make any of these changes, then this basis won’t apply unless you adapt your processing. If you couldn’t, and you've answered yes to all the other questions above, then you can use the public task basis. We could (and did) do this another way, and they go on to remind me that relying on Public Task removes the right for data to be removed. And we should be able to remove the data from online at parent/ student request surely? See matrix on ICO site for quick reference. Thanks for all your time and views and help.
  7. No, staff are not required to work from home.
  8. Thanks for the replies. I was in a meeting with the ASCL lawyers Browne Jacobson and seemed to agree that it could come under this also. FYI: I am a bit long in the tooth now to rely in what commercial companies tell me regarding compliance. I have asked around and been on training myself for this so it is a little more informed than simply asking them. It cannot be public interest as we can give homework in a planner or hand it to them. We decide to use an online provider to allow teachers to set homework on.
  9. Speaking with Show My Homework, who have been in many meetings with solictors, etc. regarding this, the operations manager there advised that we could use the 'Legitimate interest' as this is the way we provide homework in our school. This is also what I am relying on for many other online resources including 365 here.
  10. Hi gshaw.... not currently but, yes, soon that will be the case for staff.
  11. Do you collect data on your website?
  12. Enable multi factor authentication in 365... free... requires entering a one time code that is displayed once... for each device used to access email. 365 helpdesk showed me the entire process yesterday while sorting out a spambot intrusion in one of my teachers account ... sending out 1000’s emails without appearing in sent and receiving almost as many ndr’s! Pm me if interested in resolution re soft and hard fail spf record and rules as it is beyond this thread topic.
  13. I like the idea of a central resource place such as this. I know it is a little dated and refers to the DPA but this is a good link and an trying to see tif there is an updated matrix. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/644845/Cloud-services-software-31.pdf See supplier checklist at the bottom with links.....
  14. We have moved over to Capita for support directly with all of our schools. However, in a few of them, the LA has always done the SWC for them and they do not have any contractural HR details in the staff record. HR is still done by the LA. How can i get this info together to the census? When i had a run at it last week and this at the various schools, they had only a few errors of NI numbers/ employee number, etc..... none about contracts. Now i am reading that this is all required. Could someone pop a sentence or two in reply to clear this up for me? Been reading about xml comi tool etc etc and wondering how busy i am going to be tomorrow as the staff at these other schools have always left it to the LA.... Cheers all
  15. Thanks Liam. Will thank proper when on a pc but funny you should mention as I was getting back to basics and on our users respective policies at both places, I noticed that app data redirection was set to copy all to new location ie under user docs on file sever share. Seeing as some are massive I think this was causing the issue and cannot for life remember if I would have set this like this... i did see that both policies has been modified on both sites within a day of each other..... last week.. I unchecked that box in the redirect policy settings tab and logged in straight away. I am not sure if this was the part of the policy that was changed as I do not have auditing turned on (next job) but on quick reading around, this looks usual practice ie copying appdata to new location so no idea what has happened still to the lack of appdata access all f a sudden for many users. I cannot browse to users appdata from their accounts either but security says they have full control..... this is strange indeed
  16. Should say... seen the same issue on 10 and 7
  17. PCs stuck at folder redirection at user login... other symptoms... all relating to appdata folder.... shutouts and pins blank..... office docs security settings wrong...... the main thing that stops Work is the long login times and temp profile when it does eventually get there! How can this be only me that this is happening to as it happens at both my large schools since last weeks’ updates!? Please help if you have any clues.....
  18. So, this of you with NON SMART LCD's. How are you opening notebook files if at all?
  19. I know I know but the whole suite for this....and so heavily used in our place... 21 is per machine per year... Appdata heavy indeed as writes back every2 mins by default iirc... changed that straight away...
  20. Yep... 4K 200 seats... packager included and easy as pie....
  21. Not sure about this as I have reports this morning of more issues with staff laptops. I have had issues with desktops since last Thursday of lost outlook profiles and taskbar shortcuts all disappearing and redirected desktop program shortcuts unavailable.... some not all and it points to issues with redirected appdata... more and more are being reported and I am wondering if anyone else is seeing this.... also was an issue on one of my win7 machines on Friday... now had three members of staff just email saying they cannot save docs while on the train on the way to work saying all docs are loading in comparability mode.... is a rogue update breaking things for me?! I need to be at another school so any tips I can send to a tech there would be greatly appreciated here! Happy dark and early Tuesday morning
  22. We now are starting to trial direct access with 2fa.... now available for first time. ...will report asap
  23. There is also a setting in Outlook 2016 group policy template. Can't remember path from Memory but worked for me... disable notifications.... let me know if you need details and I'll post SS next week
