  1. I got this sorted eventually.. i didnt need to enable command prompt in the end. I tried changing our one GPO with loopback settings to merge and good-god did it break alot of things. I was trying to get Pastoral genie working, but it was still blocked by applocker. This was because Pastoral Genie calls (SIMS) commandreporter using the network share path and I'd setup my allow rule for the fully qualified path. Took me a while to spot this.. eventviewer for applocker helped. Thanks for everyones help.
  2. Hi, no clues in the event viewer.. good idea though. I wonder if this could be a loopback issue? I though that enforcing the rule would make this overide anything higher up the chain..?
  3. Hi, thanks for the reply.. Im not quite sure which area of Group Policy Results you mean though. I can get a GPResult from the workstation Im testing on, although this is more a user logon issue rather than computer. Im trying to allow command prompt for one user so that I can diagnose why Pastoral Genie cant pull Sims reports using commandreporter. Pastoral Genie has a debug mode, but its output is displayed in command prompt (which closes instantly), so Im purely trying to get command prompt to stay open. Ive used the "User Configuration > Application settings > System > Prevent Access to Command Prompt > Disable" in the hopes it would override the "Enabled" setting higher up the chain. My GPO Modelling results for a given desktop and user come back as I want, but the GPO doesnt apply on the actual login. Thanks
  4. Hi, Ive been wrestling with Group Policy today trying to get a policy to apply to a group of users, or even one user. The modelling wizard comes back exactly as I would expect, but loggin onto that PC with that particular user doesnt seem to apply. Im trying to allow command prompt for that user to diagnose anything really, but it still seems to be blocked. My research this afternoon seems to suggest that to solve this particular problem I need a Read policy (but not apply) in Delegation for my Domain Computers group and possibly Authenticated users. Ive toggled these on and off all day and Im fed up! Any advice please? Thanks
  5. Hi, When creating an attendance report I want to filter many aspects by the same date range.. is there a way to have the user only enter one date to cover them all, rather than the same date in multiple box's on run? Thanks for your time.
  6. I was starting to think it might be something like this.. my colleague is sorting out MFA for our 365 service, so Im hoping that hasnt activated and is causing the issue. Is there a 365 log file or filter reporting section I can locate? Thanks so much for the quick reply.
  7. Hi, We often have issues with PSFinancials and despite paying for a support package with them, come across alot of resistance when it comes to getting support. Anything outside their offices (or the cloud package) is unsupported it seems. I'm trying to get the document emailer to work (SMTP), as it stopped working a day or two ago. The crux of the issue is that there is no feedback for the error, just a messagebox stating "sending test email FAILED..failure sending email." Does anyone have any experience with this (or bad support that wants to join in the rant), or know of a log file or something I can access for clues? I'm posting here as they usually take days to weeks to reply. Thanks
  8. OK a bit more research reveals you cant add a CNAME to root, so we might have to look into a solution from cloudflare themselves. Ive read they might provide a solution for this. Learnt something here!
  9. It was a DNS issue on the domain controller. The website was swapped to cloudflare for ddos protection a little while back, so had to adjust the CNAME to suit. Shout out to academia for help there. The only thing I cant figure out is how to add a DNS record for root, as it will only accept A records as an IP address and not FQDN.
  10. Hi, Our website certificate ran out a few days ago, so we contacted our provider and they sorted it for us. The trouble is.. internally the new certificate isnt getting through somehow. On a windows PC, Chromebook and Mobile, wired or wireless through smoothwall; the old certificate is supplied. We've tried clearing the certificate cache and restarting the proxy. Any ideas for us to try please? Thanks
  11. There seems to be plenty of good info in this thread now, but its grown plenty over the last few days. Can we get a sticky at the top of the thread with a collated version of the info? It looks like I cant edit my post after a certain time period has passed, as I was interested in making a single helpful post. Edit - Also: Our single exam went mostly well this morning. The student logged in and after question 1 was booted back out with an error message. I thought this was going to happen again frequently throughout the test, but amazingly it didn't. The test finished and submitted fine.
  12. I was trying their number earlier and it was engaged every time. If you receive a whitelist or something could you post here please?
  13. The solution to the constant Update/restart loop is a proxy setting. If I simply toggle the "use proxy" option in windows 10 it works for any user. Turning all three firewalls off momentarily makes no difference. There is an xml file called "log" in the main directory that will tell you exactly where it is falling over, however if the file is already there it will not update. You have to delete it to get an updated entry. As already mentioned higher up you can delete or rename the .\configfiles\Proxy to have the program reprompt you for proxy details, but in our case it doesn't matter what you enter there, valid details for that user or a super admin; it will not connect through the proxy for us. I'm unsure if smoothwall exceptions would solve this at this stage.. presumably so? Thanks to all; for the time you took to post suggestions/solutions.
  14. Yeh, we have been instructed that the browser version is a contingency plan only... not sure where this info came from. Thanks for the quick replies so far.
  15. Yes, I have installed 3.5 seperately from the MS site.
  16. I've been struggling with this all morning.. the deadline is looming.. :S I'll add that it runs fine as an admin and doesnt need updating, so I dont think it is even trying. It must be either proxy settings or folder write permissions, but Ive tinkered with both for hours. Bizarrely it wont run from the normal "Surpass Secure Client.exe".. but will run using the "SecureClientInitialRun.exe".
  17. We also have this problem, any tips on a resolution please? You mean the user's named profile in C:\Users, or something in the C:\Users\Default\.. ..\Surpass folder? Thanks for your time.
  18. Ah. apologies, I knew the wifi system handled the RADIUS auth, but thought that perhaps it simply passed it on to smoothwall, as smoothwall does auth for other services too. Were using Ubiquiti, but I cant seem to get access to logs for authentication, hence why I was looking at smoothwall logs. Thanks for your help.
  19. Are they all the same brand/model of laptop? Does it make a difference if on mains power or battery? I'd probably remove any sound software apart from the basic driver and see if it still happens. Maybe even remove the driver and see if windows update gets a different one.
  20. I wonder if its a damaged hdmi port or cable? Might be the first thing to check. Try another cable on same board.. another laptop on the same board\cable combo. A quick workaround might be to right click the speaker item in bottom right and choose sounds. On the playback tab disable the audio hardware you don't want to use and see if you still have intermittant audio?
  21. We have an issue with radius certification on Smoothwall at the moment for our BYOD wifi. Our newer Macbook users cant seem to get connected via PEAP, but other users are seemingly still able. When going through the smoothwall logs I found something interesting.. it looks like AD correctly returns authentication for the user, but then 20 seconds later another request is sent; but with what looks like an escape character in front of it? Surely this isnt normal? Its the only user in the entire log for the morning that this occurs to. If anyone with more experience of smoothwall has any ideas I would be greatful to hear. Thanks for your time! B
  22. Hi, we've had this exact problem all week. Were looking into it, if you find anything out please share! I'll let you know if I make any progress. Thanks!
  23. Hi, I have a user that has the windows "thinking" circle rapidly flickering next to the mouse pointer. I cannot run any of the built in diagnostic tools on their login, due to group policy. I cant use the run dialogue box and right clicking on cmd and choosing run as administrator after searching for it does nothing. The C drive is locked down, so I cant hold shift and right click to use my credentials. Task manager and performance monitor are disabled for this user. When I log in at the same time the problem isn't there for me and running performance monitor indicates no big issues. Does anyone have any good workarounds for running what I need whilst logged in as a regular user? General windows 10 tips would be good too.
