  2. how did you force the classic skin to remove the ripping feature. what version of windows media player are you using.
  3. i was just wondering if you ever found anything about this, and were able to disable the rip facility in windows media player as it would be a good think to disable as i constantly have to delete music from there drives.
  4. I have joined aswell in case you wonder i am the team farscape1
  5. I noticed that when you install sims using the SIMSINST.exe it also installs from the folder WSSETUP in the sims directory on the server, i am not sure what this actually is or if it is needed. Does anyone know what this is. Just had a look it is called the Sims Workstation Setup. I have used this install for the past year and i have never had any problems with anything not working properly or missing. Tom
  6. what is FMS havnt heard of that, dont think we use it here.
  7. This is the autoit script i created to install sims, i modified it from the batch file. The users cannot move the mouse or use the keyboard so they cannot cancel it and if you add it to you gpo as a start up script it will run and install if they pc screws up. This works fine for me, and i dont need to worry if a machine gets rebuilt. Tom
  8. Over the summer we are getting two new server and rebuilding our whole domain. setup MS server 2003 on 4 servers create new ris image for pc reimage all 400 pc's create software packages for new and old software test software on network install 30 new projectors around school reimage 60 laptops figure out how to set the wireless up around school, we have 17 access points but they have never actually worked properly biggest pain will be the staff who want to take there laptops home over summer as the network is being rebuilt, when they come back they wont be able to connect and the offline file system wont work for them, so who knows what might go wrong there. somewhere between all of this take holidays. Tom
  9. Created this vbs so that you can save sounds as mp3 not had chance to try it out yet tho.
  10. i am looking to disable sticky keys too, because the kids are constantly using Alt + Left Shift + Prnt Screen to change the screen to high contrast. As for disability access we would set a seperate group up where this wasnt disabled but i cant work out how to do this, so if you can explain what needs altering would be grateful. Tom
  11. I had chest infection this year too, i had never really had one before, and i wasnt sure where it had come from , but as you said i sit in a room with air con all day long so maybe the air con caused it.
  12. I do find that alot as well, i always wash my hands now after i do anything, to be honest i am in and out of the toilets all day, i should probably buy some hand wipes or something like that. But i see teachers who are off with colds and flu all the purely due to hygene, even the kids i shudder sometimes when i thinkn what could be on the keyboards and mice, plus door handles pick up alot of germs too. I think i am now immune to the things that pass around the school too, but every now and again something pops up and hits everyone.
  13. would it be possible to show an example of how you set up a script to change the local admin password as i have been thinking about this but dont know how to do it. Thanks Tom
  14. This is our printer script We created groups in the active directory, and added the computers to those groups, this was a much easier way as you can set up the printer scripts and add computers as you get them to the different groups. One question i am wondering is that if anyone know how to rename the printer when it is added in the script, like you can make a drive mapping and rename the drive mapping to something that kids can understand. Tom
  15. have you had any other problems with allowing the kids, and has it solved any other problems. I am just trying to consider what the benefits and problems could be if we did this.
  16. there are two of us in the school. will have to discuss it with some people but i guess all that will happen is the computers will get upgraded eventually.

  18. we are using NOD32. as for changing things, i would love to but there are people up higher than me that cause a fuss and it isn't worth it. I have explained and explained but people like the look of XP no idea why but they do.
  19. I dont like the xp theme either but i have tried and said about changing it but everyone prefers the hills and green and blue layout, so that isnt really an option for me, wish it was but it isnt up to me. Any other ideas that i could try. Tom
  20. We currently have some machines in school which only have 256 mb of Ram, while the computers run XP ok they do get overloaded at times, till we get the money to upgrade them, i was looking in to ways to speed them up. One way i found was altering the performance settings in the system properties, taking out things like sliding menus and such like that. All i left was "use common tasks in folders", and "use visual styles on windows and buttons" as everyone likes the look of xp. I was wondering if anyone knows how i can do this on a larger scale as up to now i would have to go up to each computer and alter the settings. Or does anyone know of any other ways i can speed up the performance. Thanks Tom
  21. I still have a problem with this, i deployed the msi and the mst but when i logged on as a user it would not let me convert to a pdf, but as admin it worked fine, it seems to need some access to add the printer.
  22. i have been able to get this to install silently my problem is that teachers going offline, acrobat reader 7 and 8 bring up differnt errors. 7 says An Internal Error Occured, but it works fine as soon as i connect the network cable in and let it sychronise back to the network. i cant remember the error exactly but 8 says acroread.exe and a fatal error. it has to be something on the server it neads to run but i cant figure out what.
  23. does anyone else have anymore information about deploying active studio silently i was able to deploy version 2.1.23 as a msi, i had to change the msi in orca a bit(cant remember what i did tho, should of saved it as a transform than changing the actual msi itself.) was able to do the same with resources 2.0.8 again altering the msi. the driver deployed straight away with no alterations but i need to test the new driver anyway. we also use TDS boards which need the boardmate driver that was repackaged with wininstall and worked fine. my only problem is now deploying the updates specificly ACTIVstudio_PE_v2.5.101_Update.exe i havent been able to find anyway to apply this patch other than manually. also i used WIWW and put on ISS 7,8,9,11 but dont have copies of 10 and 10.5
  24. been working on a AutoIT script for deploying sims if you look in the script part of the forum there was a discussion. so if anyone is interested in the script it is up there or send me a message if you have any trouble.
  25. luckily it all worked fine this morning and sims was updated on all the machines. i will test it with that working path, thanks again for all the help. autoit is rather a handy program.
