I wouldn't trust TP-Link for anything more than basic or SOHO equipment. Even forgetting about the capability of the kit, can you go and see it in action somewhere in a high use, high density enterprise deployment? Few and far between I'd say. Whereas Ubiquiti kit is used globally and you can find it's hardware in use from small businesses to city-wide deployments. Support, warranty, after-sales etc all need considering too. We've just had a full Aruba install completed with just shy of 90 x 514/515 APs, replacing our old Unifi. We'd have resisted the change a hell of a lot if it wasn't for the prospect of having a much larger wireless use scenario looming - we were *extremely* happy with the Unifi kit and just couldn't fault it especially for the money. I don't like Ruckus much - too money-grabbing for my liking and they seem to like rinsing schools for everything they have like an easy target.

It'll be tough as with changing tech the software needs to follow suit, and you ideally can't go head first just replacing software - you'll need to liaise closely with the staff involved and SLT as it'll likely involve training/CPD which generally isn't going to be down to you. We use Solidworks (on subscription so always latest version) and 2D Design from TechSoft - I have the latest version in front of me and without kidding, it's on 3.5" floppy. Still, somehow suprisingly, still works and unlike Solidworks will deploy to a whole IT suite in about 30 seconds Our cutting equipment still relies on legacy hardware so is on a standalone laptop on XP!

Ah yes, and make sure that the little icon by the camera name on the left is set to stream 1 rather than stream 2.

After plugin installs, have you given the browser permission to access it? On slightly older NVR's, internet explorer is the best bet, Chrome for newer.

Along similar lines, are there any other "cloud" solutions people are using to satisfy these curricular requirements? One reason I love the VB setup despite the overheads and other virtual setups such as the Azure idea is just being able to give pupils something as close to real life as possible, but obviously schools are running similar when they're not Windows based, thin client, entirely cloud based etc. ** PS, apologies if that sounded a little blunt/arsey, re-reading it back it certainly looked like it!

Wow, can't see how on earth you could have got the VB setup so badly wrong to have that sort of experience! One image centrally stored on a reasonably quick storage medium, and ensuring the tools are running and we've never seen any performance issues like that on far lower spec machines. Still, it's good to look to the future and intrigued as to experiences using Azure and other cloud based solutions, no doubt something to look at sooner rather than later.

Don't do the regedit, just update and reboot your PC - known issue across Windows.

Not all monitors are capable of relaying this information, and likewise Windows in many cases is quite likely to be using Plug and Play generic drivers. I'd say you're more than likely going to be better off getting a good pair of walking shoes I'm afraid!

Just make sure you use a decent one - not one of those plastic ones as they come apart SO easily and are therefore a large shock/fire risk.

OK, so we've hit a stumbling block. There appears to be an "issue" with standards. LDAPS over 636 appears standard for anything Windows based, however talk to anyone Linux based, if I understand correctly, that was deprecated a dozen or so years ago and they don't support it. So, anything running something like OpenLDAP (PHP is a good example) refuses to work over SSL and needs StartTLS instead, working on the start port 389. Getting information on getting that working on windows though seems to be like blood from a stone!

ICT Direct are fantastic as above. We do use our local supplier too, although they tend to source from "the channel" - exactly the same kit supplied by iDNS and others at very similar prices so the only real difference comes from after-sales service.

Aware of that, and couldn't get it to work so have just been going through services manually (We have all services inventoried and how they connect anyway, just some uncertainties like this where it isn't specifically stated). Might just firewall off that port and if it breaks Capita can ruddy fix it

Nothing is flagging up, I just need to confirm if it is or isn't even using LDAP at all. I vaguely recall setting something when it was originally installed but that was years ago and there's nothing in settings to suggest how it gets it's info from AD. The only hint is the documentation clearly stating it needs firewall port 389 open.

Hi, Just auditing any remaining systems we have using unsecure LDAP, and one stickler is Solus 3. Documentation all says it "may need the port open for LDAP" but it all also says "We can't be bothered to write proper documentation for all scenarios because we're too lazy" (or something to that exact effect) so doesn't specify whether it only works on unsecure LDAP or if it's using something else. Can't see anything in settings. Can anyone shed any light?
