Yup, checked all of that - definitely not GPO but checked gpresults regardless. Both confirmed connected in school to the correct SSID (don't have the ability to change when on site). Very unlikely there's anything at home with the same IP as ours, DHCP/DNS quirks are always a possibility mind. Just strange it's not wider spread, I'm half of the mind that it's a combination of a windows update and applying at the wrong time (for example if the update applies off site, affects something regarding profiles then they can't reconnect until they do have sight of the DC). Not a beat dropped with Windows 10!

Bit of an odd one, and extremely inconsistent which makes troubleshooting difficult. We've had 2 members of staff in the last couple of months unable to log in on their staff laptop from home/off site, domain is unavailable. In both cases, the laptop was used on site at least a couple of days before. Local profiles for staff, no profile deletion has occurred manually or otherwise and there's nothing in event viewer that I can see to suggest anything else going on. Windows 11 24H2 in both cases we've had. Only thing "out of the ordinary" so to speak, in comparison to the 80+ other identical laptop & windows combos is they're support staff but again the profiles & setup doesn't differ in any way. Certainly isn't widespread (yet). Can anyone think of any possible reasons please?

It intrigues me for sure, opposite reason to @DalekSec of course as a very Anti-Apple person I'm hopeful that, like what we're starting to see with the Neo and things like the MDM there's an actual shift in Apple's policies/ideals, away from anti-consumerism. Will take time, but I'd like to be able to take off my tin-foil hat with an Apple logo on it. The ideal Apple for me was Wozniak, it's never been Jobs, Ive or Cook so fingers crossed firmly here for a future of change and competition.

Hi all, I think our photography/art department are being hard done by having to use our managed print solution Kyocera devices for their exams & coursework. They should, in my opinion, have a dedicated photo printer for this purpose. Had reasonably good experiences previously with the Canon Pixma range, but also quite like the Epson Ecotank systems too. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality photo printer and decent running costs? Absolutely no HP subscription tripe! Networked preferable. I don't know what the quality is like on the Ecotanks, I've only used them so far for dye-sub printing.

Half/half on that one - I'm probably too old fashioned, but would have to prize hard-wired cabling out of my cold, dead hands Far less to go wrong, provides a backup and generally once something is done it will last 20 years unlike wifi. Cat5e still hits 1Gb and that's been in for quarter of a century already so value for money wise it's bang on. Other part of me thinks of less cabling, people playing footsie and ripping them out of walls, chewing gum shoved into RJ45 ports and thinks that'd be wonderful. But whilst all new builds are still being flooded with cat6/6a, makes sense to follow suit The less I say about the 30 year old cat5 cable I found running our heads PC with a chocolate block bridging it to the wall port with a cat6 cable the better!

I don't think any of these settings would be related but just in case our unifi guest network settings are as follows: And the hotspot settings - pre auth allowances in place for the controller IP, core switch IP, smoothwall IP and the guest network IP range as well as gstatic.com which I recall being important but shouldn't be related to your issue. Post auth restrictions are the usual array of internet networks and a couple of our internal ranges not related to guest wifi. With a little luck it'll be one little setting!

Ah - is the controller on the same subnet as the access points though? A quick look at my setup and it's thus: Controller (and portal) along with APs are on their own VLAN Guest SSID is on it's own VLAN DHCP for this handled by Smoothwall (worth checking gateway addresses are correct) Firewall rule in place on Smoothwall to allow unrestricted access to the UniFi portal on port 8880 - another thing worth checking, I forgot it has a different port!

And how much of this is occurring on a 1Gbit internet connection? Again all well and good having capable switching but if the end point, where now the majority of traffic goes rather than internally is limited... This is another example of the DFE's confused "standards" as the recommendation for 1GBit internet seems to be fixed in the past when the majority of shared files, apps etc were locally hosted. Or just why they are so careful with using words like "should". They recommend 1Gb for secondary but do otherwise say "the fastest you can afford". So each point might be capable of 2.5Gb or more, but if you have 100 of them and each serving X amount of clients, ignoring all the desktops at 1Gb, that'll soon bottleneck out. Would be interested in seeing bandwidth figures at the firewall for some schools - we're only a small secondary and rarely go above 200Mb on our gig line but other than Photography & Art don't have much that pushes the boundaries. Schools with large media departments would certainly see those figures grow exponentially.

I don't understand what the actual issue is - only the portal needs to be on the same VLAN and as long as you can get your clients access to that which isn't at all difficult; are you doing my favourite trick of overcomplicating/overthinking it?

As @Boredguy - we have ours on a separate VLAN and portal works fine there too, it's not a Unifi limitation by any means.

Just in case anyone gets similar, I found the source of the problem. Extremely poor soldering and lovely dry joints Well worth a check if you're frugal/tight/broke. Back off, disconnect everything, make sure you discharge the caps (row of 3 on these). Fresh flux, lovely leaded solder and it'll be good to go again. Does indeed present like backlights on their way out but the sparking suggested otherwise, and the slight scorchmarks on the protective black plastic covering behind the PSU pinpointed the spots

Looking at around £300 for the most basic. The gist is you set the anyscene up with DIP switches on the board then screw it away. It's been a long time since I fiddled with ours, but if I remember correctly you set the DIPs to record, use your controller (whether it's a desk or software) to set the scene then set the DIPs back, and pressing that button then sets that scene. My memory does appear to be getting worse though so @TLARWise might be able to confirm or provide more info Still likely cheaper to go for what you'd thought up originally, or even just saving a scene in QLC for anyone to play back as and when they see fit.

That's what I said (and what we have) - needlessly complicated for something with so few buttons!

I like your idea of the Pi & Screen setup, might have a play with that for ours. We have (well, had, until it got dropped!) a large Zero88 Jester controller but it was a bit old and too complicated. Forgot QLC is multi platform, I tinkered with it on a windows laptop but a single device would be simpler still - and easy to back up or duplicate the SD card. A big drive these days is to have students handling backstage bits for productions so it's good if they can get to use these too.

Generally dimmers for halogen kit won't work for LED - LED lamps usually have the dimmer capability built in.

There's a few USB/WiFi addons available to do this - we have an Airstream DMX which works nicely with an iPad app but will also work with any software like QLC. It's then easy to set templates and load them up for any situation you need Along the same lines you could probably achieve exactly that with a Pi if you wanted something dedicated! You can also get hardware systems such as the Anyscene which are pretty much a selection of buttons where you can add memory scenes etc. We have one, but the ipad app is far simpler

That's half the trouble, always someone else to blame. Everyone has 3rd parties to deal with, yet everyone else manages to do so without massive disruptions. Proper configurations, redundancies & failovers, staffing, communication - all things which have required improvement over the years.

I wish I had a say in the matter. I exploded when it was announced and I think the people involved are bat**** crazy for going down this road. But I'm not allowed to say that and I'll probably get in trouble for this. Zero effs given
