Coronavirus: General discussion (see opening post for rules)
paulkerton replied to Dos_Box's topic in General Chat
Not seeing that in this particular document : https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/cleaning/cleaning-workplace.htm You definitely shouldn't be visiting classrooms whilst children are in there anyway! -
Move to a cloud based MIS. Cheaper, more cost effective, better cross platform compatibility. I moved from a SIMS school to a Bromcom one. It's like you've made a step in the ascent of man in comparison.
-
So with the latest developments, surely Hyve Group are either going to announce it's off, or they're moving it to the summer of next year?
-
They're staying until the new temporary recordings feature is available. All staff.
-
Depends on the features you want. For a Admin, definitely. Gives you access to BigQuery. For users, depends if they use Meet, or if you're already paying for Turnitin. Could be cheaper to license your whole school for Enterprise than just pay for TurnItIn. Having the school-wide plagarism checking in Google Classroom including internal checks with Enterprise, could definitely be worth it. Of course, because a lot of it has been free in the past, you're still going to get your complaints that not all of it is going to stay free from some people. But its £2 a month per staff member if you license your whole school. It's really low price compared to Business Enterprise.

Yeah, possibly but its the exception rather than the rule. -

Eh? I get that it might preclude masks, but not keeping a social distance is just rude. It's like when they took the measures down to "1 metre plus" and I couldn't help but think "But I wouldn't want a stranger within 1 metre of me anyway, that's my personal space..." -
So did we all get our pre-orders in successfully?
-
It was always a timed exclusive I believe.
-
I wonder if it'll suddenly be dropped from being one of the centrepieces of PS5 promotion now? MS have said they're honouring that deal, but I'm sure Sony aren't best pleased.
-
As set as it can be. Maunfacturers can't fix an RRP, so the seller can sell it at whatever price it wants, though obviously they're unlikely to take a loss on Enterprise licenses. Like all the Google products, there probably isn't much margin for the seller.

SLT want faster broadband

Get a leased line fibre directly to the premises and get rid of the copper cabling. It's 2020. My 5G phone can do better than FTTC, through concrete walls. -
Of course, if you have more than 50 staff that you need to license but less than 100 staff total, it's cheaper to fully license all your staff as that's half the price of the partial licensing.
-
The two I'm aware of that sell it are Vitalize and C-Learning. There will be others I'm sure, but I'm not aware of them. Ask both, I'm sure one of them could do it.

This isn't about Chromebooks then? It's about Windows 10?

The greater good ... In all seriousness though, all pubs should be mandated to be table service only. No barflies. No mingling outside your group. Do so, and it should be barred for life, quite frankly. -
You'll find out at 8am tomorrow morning!

And yet it's the bit people are most up in arms about, calling masks "muzzles" and generally behaving very stupidly about. -

I think today's press briefing with the CMO and CSO was designed to get people to try and behave now to delay a lockdown for as long as possible. I think they're hoping that if they do have to lockdown fully, it will be for two weeks and do it by extending half-term by a week. -
Any Google Partner is worth speaking to also. RM Education, C-Learning, Academia, Vitalize, XMA, Getech, Levett Consultancy just off the top of my head.

I just want to add that I'm not a Salamander customer because I use Bromcom's built-in sync for our G Suite platform, and I also prefer Wonde Google synchronisation with SIMS, personally, as I find its functionality smoother and slicker. But having automatic synchronisation of some kind is an absolute no brainer for the price, and Salamander is popular for good reason. It does a great job, and they're very willing to customise things for each customer's needs.

£1000 a year is £5.26 per school day. £2.73 every day a year. 3 iPad 8th Generation 2 iPad 8th Generation if you get the keyboard and pen too. It also means when changes happen in the API and your custom script inevtiably breaks, then it's on you. Otherwise, it's on the service you buy in. It's worth every penny, and I'm not a Salamander customer.
-
Ahhh.. so now we know why a SIMS 8 launch was rumoured. Much easier to launch a product people can't see properly, or interact with, or break simply by being too close to it and daring to click on something!
-
Yeah, like the Google for Education group I'm in, when someone claimed Google don't let people know when updates are happening. So I shared the G Suite Updates blog. And another person said "I don't have time to read that" I... just... *headdesk*

Not really. I give Sony money for Playstation+ and Sony gives me online play, and games every month to download and play. I gave Sky money for their entertainment pack, and they recently launched Sky Documentaries and Sky Comedy. More stuff for the same money. Still ain't free. About 10? It's the only reason I bought a PS4. It doesn't matter how much Insomiac or Sony insist it's standalone game because you don't require the original, it's still a glorified expansion pack.
