We moved over 4 months ago same interface as Local FMS and SIMS , The only bug bear is uploading and downloading documents/ Reports , but made up it when to the cloud as less support from me.

Hello all just a word of caution if you are the sole ICT Support for your school. Through our local Authority we replaced everything with Cisco gear, everything ran fantastic until a switch decided not to give out any POE to any connected devices, so we had to return it to Cisco Meraki and was asked to follow online instructions to clone the new switch with the old one, and then replace it ourselves in the cabinet. Wow aint that what Meraki do !! no apparently we did not ask for the onsite repairs as part of the support contract when the LA quoted for the job so it was left to me with no help from nobody. Ps I did have fun Lol

Thanks PotNoodleTech Yes I will do that, ESS (ParentPay) did the migration and I had to threaten to remove the 3rd party connector as Studybugs could not sync its data anymore to our on premises Sims. Ps the 3rd party connector was installed 6 weeks after the initial migration over to the cloud and it caused issues with studybugs as it was still writing to our on premises Sims.

We have just moved to Hosted Sims and managed to get Studybugs to read and write to the correct Hosted Database after installing a VPN and 3rd party connector on our local copy of Sims. Has anyone managed to reconfigured Groupcall Xporter or LGFL AutoUpdate to connect to Sims Connected? Groupcall have failed to respond to email request and LGFL have not got a clue what we are on about. Many Thanks Casa

Today our local LA refused to migrate our on premises Sims that was running on Windows 10 to a new VM on our server 2022, we have tried to get ParentPay/ESS involved in this migration but initially all very Roy Keane about it, then after a couple of weeks complete silence. But I will hammer away at it until we are told forget about the Sims roadmap and ignore everything on it and just get on the cloud. Casa

Glad everything works, it is a massive learning process involving trial, error and research. no wonder I got quoted 3.5k - 4k inc vat of some providers. All the best Casa

If i can remember it was a new failover on my new server, then i deleted the relationship on the old server. The only problem ive got is DFRS replication is still crying its eyes out on my new server, even though i gracefully removed the old sever as a domain controller. and transferred all the AD roles over.

Wonderfull !! Just deleted an old failover today partner down pre covid days, added server 2022 DC as a failover partner, The Local LA are going to add another iphelper on all the vlans to point to the new partners IP address, but retain the old iphelper address so I can add a future backup DC........Adios Windows server 2012r2.

We are a small school with only 3 users connected to our Hosted Sims, which sits on a workgroup pc running windows 10, we are looking towards a 5 yr future proof solution. The following barriers are in place. Staff refuse to consider moving to the cloud or any other MIS due to horror stories encountered with other schools that have moved over. In 2 years time Windows 10 will no longer be supported for security updates. The hosted Sims is not supported on Windows Server 2022. My solution to SMT and recommendation based on the above barriers is as follows. Replace our current server Running Server 2012r2 (End of Life) and installing 2 VM's running server 2019. VM1 Running Main DC, VM2 Hosting Sims. I am asking does the above solution seem the most practical or can we have a Sims hosted server running on windows 11? Your expert thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Casa

Thanks to Snagrat and Paddy for getting back to us. I have contacted our local Authority who are more than happy to look into this, as we need help with the proposals the DFE have given us and extras we wish to add on. Idealy we would love it all to be authenticated by LGFL USO, if that can be possible. At the moment we have a hp system with no support but a wing and a prayer, and no more firmware updates. So looking forward to this new system and we want to get it right, as at the moment am clueless in Seattle. Many Thanks Casa

The specs required by the DFE are quite substantial and I was wondering have any one used the Adept wireless solution under this DFE Scheme. I can not see them on the list of approved suppliers. Hi all Update, all VLANS retained ! the engineers did a fantastic job and had everything changed over by dinner time. Am happy, Staff happy and most important of all the daily fix of YouTube access has greatly improved. Previous bandwidth 13Mb Many thanks to everyone who contributed to my concerns, with out professional guidance from you, there was no way I could of swayed it to take the sensible and logical approach. Great stuff folks, keep it going. Victory2015 my thoughts exactly seems the easy approach. It cant be that hard to redo the vlan ip addres's on the commander Hp Switch and redo the dhcp scopes on our server. The only problem could be the wireless HP Controller that needs a bit extra tinkling.

Thanks Tech and FN-GM The reason they gave for flattening the network is as follows There is no security setup between your existing Vlans at the moment and anyone can route from one subnet to another. It will be far simpler for you to administer the network going forward if you have everything on the same Vlan. We will add extra protection to your admin to make sure the SIMS F:drive is secure my reply was as follows I control access to the subnets via the HP Switches, all ports on the switches in cabinet B that are accessible via the classrooms are configured for curriculum traffic only. There are no ports open at the admin cabinet that will allow any one plugging in a device to obtain a admin ip address. We also have a guest wifi that separates clients machines from the core network, it would be a massive security risk if a rogue wifi connection was allowed onto the curriculum wifi. We are very happy with the current set up as this gives us great flexibility. Vlans required The reason for a new Ip address range is the provider working in conjunction with the provided firewall, can monitor and pin down users usage. Ps the new provider is Trustnet (LGFL)

Hi folks Bit of advice, we currently have a vlan segmented network consisting of 6 HP switches and 1 cisco switch in 2 locations. The Hp switches are all configured for Intervlan routing, we have the following vlans. Admin, Voip, Wireless Access, Guest Wireless, Curriculum and Security. It is a brand new school configured by sub contractors as part of the new build. Everything works fine, and all devices get there correct ip address from our server. We are about to move to a new internet provider, they have given us a range of Ip Addresses for us to use, I have just found out today, with no consultation that the 3rd party provider who are going to facilitate the move has decided to flatten the entire network, and to secure the admin side devices with dhcp reservations . Currently we have about 140 devices connected to the network, including wifi access points, cctv, electronic doors, voip phones and a guest network, all on its own vlans. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the flattening of the network ? Many Thanks. Casa
