Spotify has taken down it's third-party advertising network following reports that malware was being downloaded by rogue adverts since Thursday.

According to Netcraft, users of the ad-supported free client were vulnerable to the attack which included Java-based drive-by downloads of malicious software on to user's computers.

Those who have used the free version of Spotify in the past few days should run virus scans. Schools who allow access to Spotify may want to check their computer labs for signs of infection.
