I've had quite an exciting morning as I discovered that the latest version of Spiceworks has been released and it now supports SSO... Got it all configured and moved from my test server to one of the main servers and loving it already!! Just thought I'd let people know the long awaited SSO is now available!! 1

We've only got 2 admins here... Far better than asking 60+ staff to create new accounts... Moving over from Liberum soon...
DorsetTech Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 We've just updated our Spiceworks to 6.2 - SSO is great - saves the 'it asks me to log in and I don't know what to put' issues with staff even though its linked to AD. 1
john Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Will have to update my two installs next week as both IT and Site use it and we are often asked oh what is that password despite it saying above in the blurb this is your usual computer username and password -_-

We have 6.1 but it was set up by a now-departed technician so want to be sure I won't hit any bumps during the upgrade before I commit (though if I do it in the half term I can just roll the virtual server back, I suppose)
FN-GM Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 It works better than previous versions much quicker. To upgrade just download the .exe from the website and install it on the server. Doesn't take long at all. 1

I was going to install this on my network when i start next month but my new office and the server are at opposite ends of the building and I cant really leav an RDP session to the server open all day.

I don't believe so... in the notes about moving the installation from one machine to another it mentions that you might be moving it after having installed it on your PC to set it up and figure it out etc. I set it up initially on a HP Microserver and it ran reasonably well... Definitely better now it's on one of the main servers though... Why would you need to leave an RDP Session open all day though? It's all web based...
john Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Just updated to 6.2 at work on the IT one today, its got a few colour tweaks on the main helpdesk everything is very clinical and its making a bit more fuss over Labour Time / rates which is irritating as sometimes I do track time (more to prove a point on how time consuming some rubbish is to sort out) but yet not that fussed. Got a good new filter on tickets to hide out Admin Notes, Purchase notes etc... so you can tidy busy threads up.

I have mine installed on the server, but just access it using the URL and see exactly the same view from my pc as I do from an rdp session. Therefore I can't see an advantage to running it on my pc. Just for info, I downloaded the updated software, it worked out that I already had an older version installed and ran the update wizard automatically. All done in minutes - and yes, the SSO is working great for my users - - - Updated - - - Updated again:aaaarggh. Damned safari told me it hadn't posted and then when I refresh the page, the same thing posted twice should have used the app Edited February 11, 2013 by jmak
FN-GM Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 does it run ok on 2008 r2? Yep fine. We had it on 2008 R2, moved to Server 2012 with it and all is still perfect.

I have Spiceworks installed on our old cache pilot machine after Windows XP was put on it. Primary school with only one server doing everything, running Server 2003, so didn't fancy putting it on the server. It is slow, and I haven't yet set up all the features yet, but it has integrated with AD fine.
