Windows 7 desktop and start menu not redirecting for students

Hello We have a IT suite with 20 computers which we have just installed Windows 7 enterprise 32 bit . They are on a Microsoft network and managed by Windows 2008 server. The problem we are experiencing is that 6 of the 20 machines are not redirecting the desktop or start menu???? All the machines are identical (Pentium D, 2Gb RAM, 120 HD) and they have the same image installed. We have tried to re-image\rejoin to domain\gpupdate /force but still no joy. I just don't understand why 6 out 20 machine would cause this problem :-(

 

Any one else had this problem?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated !!

You need to narrow it down.

1) Do certain users or all users have this issue.

2) Are you using roaming profiles.

3) Create a new dummy user and check if replicate this isssue

4) Try removing the profiles locally on the machine. NOTE: Please do not delete the profile directly in the users folder otherwise will cause Temp profile isssue.

 

Try that using what above to narrow it down. That's what i can think of atm.

Hey I'm having the same problems only this time is a about 20 out of 30 laptops windows 64bit,

So far the test I have ran are:

 

If student or teacher logs onto the laptop they cannot get desktop icons or startup menu or sometimes access to there Home drive

If the same users logs on to a classroom Windows 7 64bit PC its all good

 

On the laptops If I the admin logs on I cannot get access to the redirected Icons folder

I get an error message "this operation is supported only when you are connected to the server"

however I have tried with a LAN and wireless connection. still the same issues.

 

 

but If I log in to a classroom PC I can get access to the Icons and start up.

 

Its been killing me for the last 3 days

 

anyone got any ideas?

Log on as an admin, disable offline files, clear the offline cache and reboot, then log on and see how it behaves.

On the rsop there is a yellow caution sign. Right click on the computer configuration and click on the error tab and see what the error says,

 

Check that the folder that you are redirecting to have the correct share and security permissions for the group. Check that the share is accessable.

 

Check that the time on the client and the server are within 5 mins.

 

Check the event log for errors.

 

Check that the path in the policy is correct and if its got spaces in the path its in speach marks.

Hello everyone

 

After much jiggery pokery and about 250 restarts we eventually worked out what the problem was, a registry mod we use to disable the libraries folder (DisableLibariesFeature.reg) did not run correctly when the image had been deployed. We ran it manually, restarted the machine and hey presto the Desktop and Start Menu redirected with no issues!
