RAID HELP - DELL T410 - Windows Server 2008 r2 sp1

Morning ye all

 

I am in the process of setting up a new dell server T410, with windows server 2008 r2 - enterprise and following hard drives:

2 x 1TB (RAID 1)? is this ok?

4 x 2TB (RAID 5)? would this suffice? or do i set this for RAID 6?

I need some suggestions with the following when setting up the RAID 5 for the 2TB HDD's?

Which options do I select for the following?

 

Strip Element Size:

*8kb

*16kb

*32kb

*64kb

*128kb

*256kb

*512kb

*1mb

 

Read Policy:

*No Read Head

*Read Ahead

*Adaptive Read Ahead

Write Policy:

*Write Through

*Write Back

These additional options are also selectable, which do I enable if any?

[] Force WB with no Battery

[] Initialize

[] Config Hotspare

 

Some TIPS and POINTERS WILL BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED for the above?

What data / work will the server be doing would help with that as you select the stripe size based on the type of data stored on the server.

Same applies to read ahead.

 

And for write through/back depends on if you have battery back up for the raid controller and disks. or the data is not important.

1) First Server will host network mapped drives with data / videos on them

 

2) Second server will be printer server and also for pushing images out over the network using SCCM

Battery Backed Write Cache on the RAID Card rather than UPS.
