JJonas Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I used to be with Plusnet and I was able to browse the local network to get to the music share on my Squeezeserver. I switched to Sky and after plugging in my new Sky hub I can no longer access any machines on my local network. It was working before the only thing that changed was my router. Is there something I need to enable on the router config to turn on network browsing?

If it's anything like TalkTalk, they use a DNS forwarding thing; not sure if you're going by IP or name... if by name it is probably forwarding your requests to an 'opendns' like product they use. You can't easily turn it off, unless it's changed now. 1
LosOjos Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I know this is a silly question, but you have connected all your machines to the new router, haven't you? 1
TechMonkey Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Has the router got the setting to stop devices talking to each other? Can't remember the technical name sorry. Something like device isolation. 1
ZeroHour Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 New IP addresses for machines? Is the sky router giving out IP's in a different range? e.g. was 192.168.1.* now 192.168.0.* If so that can cause the firewall to run in default block all mode on desktops as its a different network. 1
HaleStorm Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Check uPnP is enabled, on Sky routers its turned off by default and make sure the NAT firewall is set to enable internal traffic 1
elsiegee40 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Stupid question, but everything is actually connected to the new hub? 1
JJonas Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Yes it is connected and has been rebooted to pick up the new ip address. Will look at the other things tonight when I get home.
Danp Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Yes it is connected and has been rebooted to pick up the new ip address. Will look at the other things tonight when I get home. How do you connect to your shares? Via IP or machine name?
LosOjos Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I don't know if you have the same router I had, but try unplugging it for a few minutes and plugging it back in again. I had no end of problems with mine, in fact I've had 3 different routers (same model) from Sky that were all awful. I eventually picked up a cheap TD-Link 1-port ADSL router, a Linksys WRT54G and shoved the Tomato firmware on it - plain sailing ever since!
JJonas Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 Its this one, not turning it off as im still in the 14 day training period.
elsiegee40 Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 That's exactly the same one as I have. Unfortunately, I just connected everything to the router, wired or wirelessly, and it just worked.
JJonas Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 My money would be on ZH's suggestion. It makes sense, would changing the DHCP range handed out by the Sky router to match the old range (192.168.1.*) and then rebooting everything fix it?
mac_shinobi Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Its this one, not turning it off as im still in the 14 day training period. I had a couple of power cuts in the 14 day training period and doesn't seem to have made much difference so am sure a reboot or even a reset and reboot shouldn't make that much difference ?
JJonas Posted January 23, 2013 Author Posted January 23, 2013 I must say they are much faster than Plusnet 1
mac_shinobi Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I must say they are much faster than Plusnet never been with plusnet myself
