TechieDaz Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Good Evening all, I work in many primary schools and I have one primary school that has just purchased a batch of google nexus 7 tablets. I was wondering if anyone working within a primary school could recommend me any apps that would be useful to purchase for the students. Also any free ones. Because this is new for the school, I thought I'd ask in the hopes that some of you may have used some apps that you find useful within your primary schools. Thanks in advance. Darren
j224 Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I have a personal Nexus 7 but I don't know of any schools using them. This site might help to get you started- Teaching Appz | Formats Archive | Android 1
Singist Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Very useful. Thanks. One of my schools has just purchased 74 of them to mainly use as reading resources (Kindle App). 6 in each classroom so they can have their own account for each one. Even more useful as a resource if we can find other uses for them.
SYNACK Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 @tech_guy has a batch of these in a school http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/106627-hmmm-asus-nexus-7-not-impressed-so-far.html Despite the thread title it is reasonably positive.
TechieDaz Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Thank you for all the info, very useful
mavhc Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I've got 2 to test, my plan is to set up 2 accounts, primary one with a password that's restricted, encrypt the device, so when it boots it needs that password, to annoy people who steal them. Second account for pupils to use. I've set up ipcop to do transparent proxy, which mostly works. Installed the google device policy app and meraki to try to lock them down. Can't see how to a) automatically add the wifi pw on first boot. b) deploy apps to multiple users/devices, c) arrange home screens. Also there's no ability yet to buy gift vouchers in uk to avoid putting credit card details into an account. Been looking at some apps, there's a few primary level things, although some with usa accents, so not that much help, and some higher education level things, but can't find a lot in the secondary school area.
mattx Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Have I read this correctly ? Schools buying equipment but not knowing what to do with it ?
