LeMarchand Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Just read this disturbing report. Have they never seen "The Thing" or any of a number of other horror films? Or read "At The Mountains Of Madness"? Could this be what triggers the apocalypse? No good can come of this, I tell ye!
6Foot2 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 ...No good can come of this, I tell ye! It's OK: Link: BBC News - Lake Ellsworth: Drilling effort runs into trouble Or is this the point [if this were a film] when 'things start to happen?'
JJonas Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Great the Mayans were right those crazy scientists are going to wake up Cthulhu
6Foot2 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 (edited) Great the Mayans were right those crazy scientists are going to wake up Cthulhu Relevant quotes: The Thing: Quotes 1: "I'd say the ice it's buried in is 100,000 years old—at least!" "And those Norwegians blew it up." "Crazy Norwegians, always screwing things up for the rest of humanity." The Thing: Quotes 2: "Anybody there?" "Hey, Sweden?" "They're not Swedish, Mac, they're Norwegian." OK. Maybe second quote not so relevant but Mac's attitude amused me at the time. Edited December 18, 2012 by 6Foot2
aerospacemango Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Surely there's a chance, however slim, that there may be something detrimental to humans in this lake that's been buried for millenia? Could they be about to release a virus? Or minute particles of a bacteria? Could they find single cell amoeba that will multiply and take over the world? I look forward to serving our new amoeba masters....
pcstru Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 I look forward to serving our new amoeba masters.... Me too, but how will I spot the change?
aerospacemango Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Me too, but how will I spot the change? They will be infinitely more intelligent than the current lot....

LeMarchand Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 Apparently we are safe (for now) as the effort has been called off. However, they intend to return when, according to Professor Peabody of the Miskatonic university, "the stars are right". Meanwhile one of the interns was heard gibbering "ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn"... 1
aerospacemango Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) Phew! That was a close run thing! So, we've narrowly avoided having to strap the population into chairs, whilst Kurt Russell heats up blood! At least I now know that no one is going to have their hands bitten off whilst performing heart massage.....yet! *EDIT* Waaaiiittt a minute.... I've just read the report and it says that the Ruskies have alreay penetrated a lake similar to this one..... They could already be AMONG US! Hiding in plain sight! Once again, I welcome our new Amoeban Overlords! Edited January 3, 2013 by aerospacemango

They could already be AMONG US! Hiding in plain sight! Once again, I welcome our new Amoeban Overlords! Well that does explain most of the current members of the Houses of Parliament.
LeMarchand Posted January 13, 2013 Author Posted January 13, 2013 Was looking on the HPL Historical Society Site to see if they'd finished their "Whisperer in the Darkness" film as their version of "Call of the Cthulhu" was great (they have, over a year ago) and found this picture which purports to be one of the Antarctic scientists wearing some of their merchandise: Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!
aerospacemango Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 BBC News - Drill reaches Antarctica's under-ice Lake Whillans It would seem like the Merkins think they've broken through..... I'm pretty sure there IS a scientist down there who's just poured his coffee into his chess computer.... Get ready for the end of civilisation as we know it.... I REPEAT.... I welcome our new Amoeban overlords!
6Foot2 Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 ...there IS a scientist down there who's just poured his coffee into his chess computer... ...there IS a scientist/helicopter pilot down there who's just poured his whisky into his chess computer...
aerospacemango Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 ...there IS a scientist/helicopter pilot down there who's just poured his whisky into his chess computer... oooppps! My mistake!
aerospacemango Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 BBC News - Antarctic Lake Vostok yields 'new bacterial life' New bacterial life...... :shudders: And thus the world takes it's first step towards the apolcalypse!!! I'd just like to say that I, for one, welcome our new Bacterial Overlords!
